6 Months Free* Broadband Offer
Terms & Conditions
Existing Customers
Effective date: 12 August 2025
This document outlines the terms and conditions for the 6 Months Free* Broadband Offer from Mercury. It provides essential information for customers.
1. The Offer
Customers can receive 6 months free* broadband when they add an eligible fibre broadband service to their existing Mercury electricity service for a 1-year term.
*Postage and handling charges may apply. See clause 10 for details.
2. Eligibility
This offer is provided by Mercury NZ Limited and is exclusively for existing residential customers who are adding a FibreLite, FibreClassic, or FibreMax broadband service at the same address. Customers must not be on a fixed or minimum term energy agreement, excluding Friends Extra.
Mercury reserves the right to accept or decline applications based on credit criteria. This offer cannot be combined with other minimum term electricity and broadband bundle offers or certain broadband/energy-only offers. For inquiries, call 0800 10 18 10.
The offer is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash.
3. Changes
Mercury may change or withdraw this offer at any time without prior notice.
4. Application
These Offer Terms are supplementary to Mercury's General Residential Terms, Electricity and Piped Gas Terms, Phone and Internet Terms, and Privacy Policy. In case of any inconsistency, these Offer Terms take precedence. Full details are available on the Mercury website.
5. Term
The broadband service has a 1-year term ("Term"). Electricity, gas, landline phone, or mobile phone services do not have a specific term related to this offer.
Cancelling or switching electricity services before the end of the Term will result in the forfeiture of remaining benefits under this offer. Refer to Clauses 9 and 15 for more information.
6. Term Commencement
The Term begins when the FibreLite, FibreClassic, or FibreMax broadband service is connected with Mercury, or after any applicable cooling-off period, whichever is later.
7. Interim Services
If an interim wireless broadband service is provided until fibre broadband is connected, there is no term for this interim service, and it can be cancelled anytime without early termination fees. Pricing for the interim wireless service applies from its connection until the fibre service is connected or the interim service is terminated.
8. Energy Pricing
Upon commencement of the Term, energy prices will remain as per the customer's current Mercury energy agreement, including any applicable discounts, unless otherwise notified.
9. Changes to Pricing
All pricing is subject to change at any time during the Term. Customers will be notified of any changes according to Mercury's General Terms and Conditions for Residential Customers.
A 17.25 cent per day (inc GST) Dual Fuel Discount is provided to customers with both electricity and piped gas and/or LPG from Mercury at the same address. This discount is applied as a credit to gas charges. The discount is forfeited if the customer no longer has both electricity and either piped gas or LPG from Mercury at the same address.
If a customer moves to a different property during the Term, energy pricing and the Dual Fuel Discount may change. The customer must maintain the same broadband service and their electricity service. If the chosen broadband service is unavailable at the new property, retaining any Mercury broadband service is required to remain eligible.
Standard fibre broadband installations have no upfront costs for customers not already connected to fibre. Additional installation costs may apply for homes located more than 200m from the fibre cable access point or requiring additional internal wiring.
10. Router Requirements
Customers can choose a Mercury router or use their own compatible device for fibre services. Device specifications are available at mercury.co.nz/fibre-BYOD-specs. Using a non-compatible router may affect service speeds.
A Mercury router is required for interim wireless broadband services.
A $14.95 postage and handling charge applies for Mercury-issued routers.
11. Your Broadband Plan and Prices
Customers receive free broadband for the first 6 months of the Term. Thereafter, Mercury's standard rates apply for the subsequent 6 months, based on the connection type and selected broadband speed. The 6 months free offer applies only to the monthly plan charge, not to additional services like calls, calling plans, or data packs.

12. Changing Your Broadband Plan During the Term
Permitted Changes:
- FibreLite customers may upgrade to FibreClassic or FibreMax.
- FibreClassic customers may upgrade to FibreMax.
- Customers using wireless broadband as an interim service may upgrade their data allowance, subject to availability.
Prohibited Changes:
- Changing from FibreMax to FibreClassic.
- Moving from FibreClassic or FibreMax to a wireless broadband service or to FibreLite.
- Customers using wireless broadband as an interim service cannot downgrade their data allowance.
13. Wireless Broadband
This section pertains to customers who select an interim wireless broadband service.
Wireless broadband availability varies by area and property. The 1000GB plan is restricted to areas near cellphone towers. Customers should verify availability for their address on the Mercury website.
For capped wireless broadband plans, unused data does not carry over. Additional 10GB data packs are available for $10, applied automatically or manually. An automatic 10GB pack is applied once the monthly allowance is fully consumed, provided no manual packs have been added. Up to four manual data packs can be purchased monthly, valid for 30 days.
For non-capped wireless broadband plans, unused data does not carry over. Upon full consumption of the monthly data allowance, speeds will be reduced to 5Mbps until the next plan renewal. Reduced speeds may impact user experience, such as lower video resolution or slower image loading. Speeds may fall below 5Mbps due to other factors affecting wireless broadband performance, as detailed in Mercury's Phone and Internet Terms.
Data usage can be monitored, but real-time updates are not provided. Usage is updated approximately hourly and reflects data used up to 4 hours prior. Extended delays in updates may occur during peak times or at the end of the billing month. While Mercury aims to notify users at 80% and 100% data usage, customers are ultimately responsible for managing and monitoring their own data consumption.
14. Early Termination Fees
If a customer terminates the service or switches broadband providers within the Term, an early termination fee of $300 will apply, added to the next bill. This fee is payable only once during the Term.
If the Agreement is terminated due to the customer's breach (e.g., regular non-payment), applicable early termination fees will be charged.
15. Other Termination Consequences
If a customer cancels their electricity service or switches electricity providers during the Term, they will forfeit any remaining months of the free 6 months offer from the next billing period.
Early termination fees are waived if the customer:
- Switches gas providers or cancels their gas service.
- Switches landline phone providers or cancels their landline phone service.
- Switches mobile phone providers or cancels their mobile phone service.
All prices and fees quoted are inclusive of GST.
