Defiant G32-KPDA612 Electronic Keypad Deadbolt
This document provides instructions for the installation and operation of the Defiant G32-KPDA612 Electronic Keypad Deadbolt.
Pre-installation - Door Preparation
Note: If your door is pre-drilled, check the hole sizes to ensure they are correct. If they are, skip to the INSTALLATION section.
- Cut out the TEMPLATE (reverse page) and use it to mark the door, drill holes, and chisel out the mortise.
- Note: Drill from both sides of the door to prevent wood splitting.
Door Preparation Diagram:
The diagram shows the required measurements for door preparation, including backset, centerline, and hole dimensions for the latch and faceplate.
- Backset: 2-3/8" (60 mm) or 2-3/4" (70 mm)
- Centerline: 2-1/8" (54 mm)
- Latch hole depth: 1-1/2" (38 mm)
- Faceplate outline: Chisel 5/32" deep
Safety Information
- Read all precautions and instructions before installing and using the lock. Save this manual for future reference.
- CAUTION:
- Use four alkaline batteries for best performance.
- Do not disassemble any internal components; this voids the warranty.
- Do not drop or hit the lockset; excessive shock can cause permanent damage.
- Do not use pins or sharp objects to press the keypad.
- Always create a backup of important information (programming code, user codes, etc.).
- Promptly change the programming code before operating the lockset.
Care and Maintenance
- Remove locks or do not install locks prior to painting your door.
- Periodically clean with mild soap and a soft cloth only.
- Do not use abrasives or chemical products containing alcohol, benzene, or acids. Avoid using sharp or abrasive objects for cleaning.
- Do not allow water or liquids into the lockset during installation.

- Drill with drill bits (1" diameter, 1-3/16" diameter, 1-9/64" diameter, 7/8" diameter)

Installation
- Installing the Latch
- Attach the correct faceplate to the latch.
- Set the latch backset length. Ensure the latch cam is upright before adjustment.
- Install the latch into the door edge. Ensure the correct backset is visible.
- Prepare the Door Jamb
- Use the strike plate as a template to drill holes and chisel out the mortise.
- The strike plate must fit flush with the surface of the door jamb.
- Installing the Lock Assemblies
- Door bore options: Thread the cable through the hole and under the latch. The latch bolt should be in the retracted position.
- Install the lock assemblies: Slide the cable through the notch in the mounting plate. The bulged part of the mounting plate must face towards the door. Connect the cable firmly into the connector port. Ensure the metal connector side faces outward.
- Remove the Battery Cover.
- Install batteries (4 alkaline recommended).
- Install the battery cover and insert screws.
- Enter the default programming code (123456). The lock will set up the bolt direction to complete the installation.
WARNING: If the door needs to be drilled, ensure you are familiar with safe drilling practices and all door preparation steps.
Programming
1. How to Program the Lockset
Basic Settings
- Change Programming Code: Press [SET] for 1 second, enter current programming code, enter new programming code (6 digits), confirm new programming code.
- Add a User Code(s): Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, enter new user code (4-6 digits), press '+' to add another code.
- Delete individual User/Single-entry Code(s): Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, enter user code to delete, press '+' to delete another code.
- Delete all User/Single-entry Codes: Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, press '+'.
- Add Single-entry Code(s): Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, enter single-entry code (4 digits), press '+' to add another code.
- Vacation Mode: Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, select 'Turn On' or 'Turn Off'.
- Volume Control: Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, select 'Turn On' or 'Turn Off'.
- Auto-lock: Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, select 'Turn On' or 'Turn Off'.
- Auto-lock Delay Timer: Press [SET] for 1 second, enter programming code, enter new amount (10-99 seconds).
Advanced Settings
- Programming Code can be used to program or unlock the lockset. Default is '123456'.
- User Codes can be used to unlock the lockset.
- User Code capacity: 10 sets (4-6 digits).
- Single-use User Code capacity: 5 sets (4 digits).
2. How to Lock/Unlock the Lockset
- To lock: Press the 'Lock' button or use a mechanical key.
- To unlock: Enter a valid User Code or Programming Code, or use a mechanical key.
Note: The keypad is temporarily disabled for 1 minute after 4 consecutive incorrect entries. The lockset will exit programming mode if no input is made for 10 seconds.
3. Restore to Factory Settings
- Remove one battery.
- Press and hold the [SET] button while inserting the battery back.
- Hold the [SET] button until a long beep is heard.
- Note: This erases all stored information, including bolt direction. Re-enter the default Programming Code to set up the lock after restoring.
Troubleshooting
1. Installation Questions
- Latch does not operate correctly: Ensure backset is set correctly, and the latch bolt is retracted with no key in the lockset during installation. Restore to factory settings and re-enter the default programming code if issues persist.
- Bump felt when turning thumbturn or key: Execute lock & unlock function to allow the motor to reposition.
- Fail to set up the lock: Ensure the lock is installed correctly, batteries are fresh and the cable is connected properly. Restore to factory settings and re-enter the default programming code.
2. Operation Questions
- Battery indicator flashing: Batteries are low; replace with four new alkaline batteries.
- Keypad not responding: Check battery installation, battery level, cable connection, and ensure the lock has completed bolt direction determination.
- Programming Code cannot be changed: Refer to the guide for restoring factory settings and reprogramming.
- Wrong code entered: Press the button once and re-enter the code.
- Cannot delete all User Codes: Ensure the entire code entry process is completed within 10 seconds.
- Cannot add a new User Code: Ensure the code entry is within 10 seconds, the programming code is correct, and the user code capacity is not full.
- Auto-lock not functioning: Check battery power and ensure the Auto-Lock function is enabled in the programming settings.
- Lockset not able to unlock/lock by keypad: Verify the correct User Code is entered, check battery level, ensure the cable is firmly connected and undamaged, check battery installation, and ensure the strike plate is aligned correctly.
- Lockset unable to reset: Refer to the guide for restoring factory settings and reprogramming. Check battery level.
- Operating in darkness: Press any button to activate the lockset backlight.
- Red indicator still on after setting: Check if the [SET] button is jammed or re-install the batteries.
- Lockset locks when code entered, unlocks when pressed: Uninstall and reinstall assemblies, ensuring the bolt is retracted, no key is in the cylinder, the torque blade is horizontal, and the unit is reset and reprogrammed.
- Key cannot be removed unless in locked position: Uninstall and reinstall assemblies following the same guidelines as above.

The retailer warrants this product against defects in workmanship or materials for the original purchaser's lifetime (mechanical) and one year (electronic). To obtain service, bring the product to the retailer's store of purchase. This warranty is limited to the original retail purchaser.
