Defiant Electronic Keypad Deadbolt Installation Guide
Model: KPDKS01DK01
Safety Information
Read all precautions and instructions before installing and using this lock. Save this manual for future reference. Do not disassemble internal components, as this voids the warranty. Avoid dropping or hitting the lockset. Do not use sharp objects on the keypad. Always back up important information (Master Code, User Codes). Change the Master Code before operation. Restrict access to the interior assembly and check settings regularly.
Care and Cleaning
Remove or do not install locks prior to painting doors. Clean periodically with mild soap and a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive or chemical products (alcohol, benzene, acids) or sharp objects. Prevent water or liquids from entering the lockset. For a long-lasting finish, use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid lacquer thinner, caustic soaps, abrasive cleaners, or polishes, as they can damage the coating.

Preparing the door and checking dimensions
Verify door hole diameter is 2-1/8 in. (54 mm). Ensure backset is 2-3/8 in. or 2-3/4 in. (60 or 70 mm). Check door edge hole is 1 in. (25 mm). Confirm door thickness is between 1-3/8 in. to 2 in. (35 mm to 50 mm).
-
Installing the latch and strike
Hold the latch in front of the door hole, ensuring the latch face is flush with the door edge. If the slotted hole is not centered, rotate and pull the latch to extend it. Install the latch in the door using a wood block and hammer, or with supplied screws if the edge is not chiseled. Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the rectangular face and install the drive-in collar if needed. Install the strike in the door frame, ensuring a minimum depth of 1 in. (25.4 mm). For BHMA Grade 3 compliance, install the reinforcement plate and strike.
-
Installing exterior assembly
Ensure the latch is fully retracted. Route the power cable below the latch and send it through the bottom horizontal slot in the mounting plate. Secure the mounting plate with supplied screws.
-
Installing interior assembly
Remove the battery cover. Connect the power cable securely. Rotate the interior assembly's turnpiece to the vertical position and install it. Test the thumb turn for smooth rotation; repeat if necessary. Secure the interior assembly with supplied screws.
-
Detecting left/right hand door installation
With the door OPEN and UNLOCKED, load three AA batteries. Press and hold the Reset button on the interior assembly using the included tool. Load the last battery while holding the Reset button for at least 3 seconds until a beep is heard. The latch bolt will extend to learn the door's orientation. Use fresh, non-rechargeable alkaline batteries only.
