Product Overview

Introducing the Nano Key Biometric 2.0, the latest addition to Vaultek's Nano Key lineup. It offers quick, secure biometric access to your safe in a discreet package that can be hidden or stored openly. This device integrates Vaultek's proprietary fingerprint authentication technology, allowing for up to 20 unique authorized users. Each user registration consists of three scans of the same fingerprint. Once programmed and encrypted, the fingerprint information cannot be copied or stolen.

Specifications

Key Features

Security Sleep Feature: Activates when six (6) consecutive incorrect fingerprints are scanned. The device will not accept any scans for four (4) minutes. If a finger is placed during this mode, the LED ring will flash RED and the alarm will beep.

Low Battery Warning: During standby, when the battery is low, the LED ring flashes RED and sounds several rapid beeps every 5 minutes until the battery dies, indicating low battery and the need to recharge.

Installation

The Nano Key Biometric 2.0 is equipped with a mounting bracket and double-stick adhesive. The mounting bracket can be installed in a preferred location for quick access to your safe. The Nano Key Biometric 2.0 can open your safe from a range of up to 20 feet.

TIP! Before mounting the bracket, test the range of the Nano Key to ensure access can be granted from your desired mounting location.

Programming Fingerprints

Programming Admin Print (First User)

The first programmed fingerprint is considered the Admin print. This print is necessary to authorize adding additional users or to authorize the deletion of all prints.

Step 1: To begin, quickly press the top PROGRAM button. The LED ring will turn solid RED, indicating you can place your finger on the scanner for the first of three (3) registration scans. Place your thumb or finger on the scanner. When you hear a confirmation beep and the LED ring flashes GREEN, lift your finger.

Repeat two more registration scans to complete programming for the first user.

TIP! Reposition the fingerprint on the scanner for each registration scan to capture varying angles and store more print information. Refer to page 10 for more TIPS.

TIP! If you hear two beeps and the LED ring stays RED, the scan was not accepted, and you will need to start again.

Programming Additional Prints (Prints 2-20)

After the Admin print has been locked in, you can add additional users or fingerprints, up to 20 unique users in total. This is useful if the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 has difficulty reading your initial print, or if you wish to grant other users authorized access to your safe.

Step 1: To begin, quickly press the top PROGRAM button. The LED ring will turn solid YELLOW, requesting you to place the Admin print on the scanner to authorize the request. Continue on the next page.

When successful, you will hear a confirmation beep and the LED ring will flash GREEN then back to RED, indicating you can proceed with the first of three (3) registration scans for additional prints.

TIP! If you hear two beeps and the LED ring stays RED, the scan was not accepted, and you will need to start again.

TIP! A total of 19 fingerprints can be programmed in addition to the first Admin print.

Programming TIPS

The following tips are helpful for the most accurate programming:

1. Finger Placement: Be sure to aim the cuticle of your finger or thumb flat over the center of the scanner. This places the center of your fingerprint in the middle of the scanner. Some moisture helps; dry skin makes your fingerprint hard to read. Refer to the image on page 11.

Diagram showing correct finger placement on the scanner:
  • Left image: A finger positioned with grid lines indicating the center.
  • Right image: The scanner area with grid lines showing optimal placement for fingerprint capture.

2. Finger Choice: Biometric technology is dependent on anatomical information, and some fingerprints program better than others. For example, your index finger may not register very well, but your thumb may contain higher detail levels and have a much higher success rate. Try different fingers and see if you have better results with your thumb.

3. Scan Registration: During the 3-scan registration process for each finger, lift and reposition your finger at different angles to store more print information.

4. Multiple Scans: Program your thumb two, three, or even four times. This stores more print information if your print is having trouble reading. For example, you can program a print while standing up, then another while sitting down, to capture different angles. You have an available 20 slots in total to use as needed.

Pairing Nano Key with Your Safe

Once fingerprints are programmed and ready to use, the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 functions the same as a standard Nano Key. Simply placing a programmed fingerprint on the scanner activates the key to open a paired safe. Refer to your safe's user manual for specific Nano Key pairing instructions.

During the pairing process, when the safe is ready to receive the Nano Key transmission, simply scan an enrolled finger into the Nano Key Biometric 2.0, and the pairing process will complete. Once the Nano Key is paired with your safe, any of the programmed fingerprints in the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 will have access to the safe.

Manual Pairing Mode

The Nano Key Biometric 2.0 can be manually paired to a new safe if needed. Use the following sequence when changing safes.

TIP! The Nano Key Biometric 2.0 can only pair to one safe at a time.

Step 1: To pair the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 with a new safe, first prepare the new safe to receive the pairing transmission from the Nano Key.

Step 2: On the Nano Key, tap the top program button 3 times. This will enter manual pairing mode, and the LED ring will glow YELLOW, prompting the scan of an Admin fingerprint.

Step 3: Scan an Admin fingerprint, and the Nano Key will pair with the new safe.

The Nano Key can now be used to open the new safe.

Deleting Fingerprints

This operation will unpair the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 and will delete all programmed fingerprints. You cannot individually delete fingerprints.

Step 1: Press and hold the top PROGRAM button for 3 seconds, until the LED ring starts glowing YELLOW. This prompts you to scan the Admin print first. The Admin print is the first fingerprint enrolled in the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 and must be scanned to authorize the deletion of all prints.

Step 2: A confirmation beep and GREEN LED ring confirm the delete is complete.

TIP! Deleting all fingerprints will also unpair the Nano Key from your safe.

Fingerprint Management

The fingerprints stored on the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 function differently than fingerprints stored locally on a biometric Vaultek safe. You cannot name individual fingerprints, and the safe is not able to read the specific fingerprint information from the Nano Key.

Your safe's history log will record activity as "opened with Nano Key" or something similar. You will not be able to decipher which specific fingerprint has opened the safe if multiple users are programmed into the Nano Key Biometric 2.0.

Battery Functions

Low Battery Warning: When used to open your safe, if the LED ring flashes RED and sounds several rapid beeps, this indicates the battery is low and needs recharging. This continues every 5 minutes until the battery dies.

Charging Nano Key Biometric 2.0: Simply plug in the micro-USB charging cable provided for 2.5 hours to recharge the battery.

TIP! Approximate battery life under normal usage is 3 months.

TIP! The Nano Key Biometric 2.0 can be left plugged in at all times.

TIP! The Nano Key Biometric 2.0 battery level can be viewed in the Bluetooth 2.0 app.

Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Make sure you are within range of the safe, approximately 20 feet, for the Nano Key Biometric 2.0 to operate.
  2. If the LED ring flashes RED and sounds several rapid beeps when used to open the safe, this indicates the battery is low and in need of recharging. Refer to battery information on pages 19 and 20.
  3. For the most accurate programming of your fingerprints into the Nano Key Biometric 2.0, refer to pages 10 to 13.
