Project Overview
This pattern guides you through knitting a baby blanket using Anko Cake Yarn. It is designed for intermediate knitters.
Measurements
- Width (approx): 100cm
- Length (approx): 100cm
Materials
- Anko Cake Yarn: 200g x 3 balls
Needles and Extras
- One 5.50mm circular needle (80cm long) or size that gives correct tension.
- One yarn needle.
Tension
15.5 stitches and 20 rows to 10 cm in width over stocking stitch, using 5.50mm needles.
Special Abbreviation
- Bobble: (K1, P1, K1) all in the next stitch, turn, K3, turn, K3, slip the 2nd and 3rd stitches over the first, thus completing the bobble.
Knitting Instructions
Blanket Base
- Using a 5.50mm circular needle, cast on 160 stitches.
- Note: Work in rows, not rounds.
Rib Border
- 1st row (RS): K4, * P2, K3, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
- 2nd row: P4, * K2, P3, repeat from * to the last stitch, P1.
- Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows until the work measures 5cm from the beginning, ending with a 2nd row.
- Next row (RS): K1, K2tog, * K10, K2tog, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1. This will result in 146 stitches.
- Knit 3 rows garter stitch.
Feather & Fan Pattern
- 1st row (RS): Knit.
- 2nd row: Purl.
- 3rd row: K1, * (K2tog) 3 times, (yfwd, K1) 6 times, (K2tog) 3 times, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
- 4th row: Purl.
- Rows 1 to 4 inclusive form the feather and fan pattern.
- Continue in pattern until the feather and fan pattern measures approximately 16.5cm, ending with a 4th pattern row.
- Knit 4 rows garter stitch, decreasing one stitch in the centre of the last row. This will leave 145 stitches.
Bobble Pattern
- 1st row (RS): Knit.
- 2nd row: Purl.
- 3rd row: K3, * Bobble, K5, repeat from * to the last 4 stitches, Bobble, K3.
- 4th row: Purl.
- Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows once more.
- 7th row: K6, * Bobble, K5, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
- 8th row: Purl.
- Rows 1 to 8 inclusive form the pattern.
- Continue in the bobble pattern until the bobble pattern measures approximately 16.5cm, ending with a 4th or 8th pattern row. Increase one stitch in the centre of the last row. This will result in 146 stitches.
- Knit 4 rows garter stitch.
- Repeat the section from the first asterisk (*) to the second asterisk (**) once more.
- Repeat the section from the first asterisk (*) to the third asterisk (***) once.
- Knit 3 rows garter stitch.
- Next row (WS): K1, increase in the next stitch, * K10, increase in the next stitch, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1. This will result in 160 stitches.
Final Rib Border
- 1st row (RS): K4, * P2, K3, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
- 2nd row: P4, * K2, P3, repeat from * to the last stitch, P1.
- Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows until the work measures 5cm from the beginning, ending with a 2nd row.
- Cast off.
Side Borders
- With the right side facing and using the 5.50mm circular needle, knit up 175 stitches evenly along one side edge of the blanket (including the rib borders).
- 1st row (WS): P4, * K2, P3, repeat from * to the last stitch, P1.
- 2nd row: K4, * P2, K3, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
- Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows until the work measures 5cm from the beginning, ending with a 1st row.
- Cast off.
- Work the other side border in the same manner.
Finishing
- DO NOT PRESS.
- Darn in ends neatly towards the centre of the blanket.
