Compatibility Check
Before starting the cooler assembly, compare your graphics card with the pictures in the Alphacool configurator at https://www.hwconfig.com. You can search for your specific graphics card or cooler model. For definitive identification, compare the PCB number. This cooler is designed for a specific PCB layout. Manufacturers may revise card designs, potentially affecting cooler compatibility with later models. During assembly, ensure taller components have adequate clearance and that the cooler does not damage your graphics card.
Alphacool International GmbH is not liable for assembly errors caused by negligence, such as selecting an incompatible cooler.
Prepare Graphics Card
Place the hardware on an antistatic mat. Begin dismantling the original cooler. Depending on the cooler's structure, remove the screws at the back of the card and carefully unhook the fan connector first. If the original cooler uses thermal glue, exercise extreme caution to avoid damaging parts. Carefully collect all components. Next, clean the hardware of thermal paste or pad residues using a solvent, such as isopropanol alcohol.
Step 1: Thermal Pad Preparation
Cut the thermal pad no. 6 from its 8x100x3mm size to a length of 8x84x3mm, as indicated by the cutting guide [cutting tool].
Step 2: Thermal Pad Placement
Clean the contact surfaces on the bottom side of the cooler with Isopropanol alcohol or a similar cleaning agent. The surface must be free of contaminants.
Remove the protective foils from the thermal pads and place the pads on the backplate in the designated locations as shown in the diagram.
Note: If you are using the Active Backplate for the 3080, use the thermal pads from the original Alphacool graphics card cooler. You will need pads for locations:
- No. 1 (15x15x1mm)
- No. 2 (15x51x1mm)
- No. 3 (15x51x1mm) - requires 2mm thickness
- No. 4 (30x30x2mm) - requires 3mm thickness
Step 3: Attaching the Backplate
Position the active backplate onto the graphics card and secure it using the 4 M2x11 screws as shown. The remaining screws are spares.
Step 4: Digital RGB Lighting Connection
To control the digital RGB lighting, connect the 3-pin female connector to the graphics card's LED 3-pin male connector. Additional digital RGB LEDs can be connected to the remaining 3-pin male connector. Two installation options are provided, as illustrated.
Step 5: Water Circuit Connection
Two options are available for connecting the unit to the water cooling circuit: Use either the two G1/4" threads or the 5/3mm connections in conjunction with the optionally available MCX distributor (article number 13041).
Step 6: Finalizing Fittings
Close the 3mm barbed fittings with the enclosed cap. Screw in the G1/4 screw plugs using the enclosed tool.
