Compatibility Check
Before starting the cooler assembly, compare your graphics card with the pictures in the Alphacool configurator. Visit https://www.hwconfig.com and search for your graphics card or cooler model. For definitive identification, you can also compare the PCB number.
The cooler is designed for a specific PCB layout. Graphics card manufacturers may occasionally revise their designs, which could result in the cooler not fitting later models. During assembly, ensure that taller components have sufficient clearance and that the cooler does not damage your graphics card.
Alphacool International GmbH is not liable for assembly errors due to negligence, such as selecting an incompatible cooler.
Prepare Graphics Card
Place the hardware on an antistatic mat. Begin by dismantling the original cooler. Depending on the cooler's structure, remove fan screws and carefully unhook the fan connector first. If the original cooler uses thermal glue, exercise extreme caution to avoid damaging parts. Handle all components carefully.
Next, clean the hardware of thermal paste or pad residues using a solvent, such as isopropanol alcohol.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Thermal Pad Placement
Clean the contact surfaces on the bottom side of the cooler with Isopropanol alcohol or a similar cleaner. The surface must be free of contaminants.
Remove the protective foils from the thermal pads and place the pads on the backplate as indicated in the diagram. The diagram shows numbered locations (1-6) on the backplate corresponding to specific thermal pad sizes.
Note: If using the Active Backplate for the 3080, use the pads from the original Alphacool graphics card cooler. You will need pads: No.1 (15x15x1mm), No.2 (15x51x1mm), and No.3 (15x38x1mm) for 2mm thickness, and No.4 (30x30x2mm) for 3mm thickness.
Step 2: Attach Active Backplate
Place the active backplate onto the graphics card and secure it using the 8 M2x11 screws as shown in the diagram.
Step 3: Digital RGB LED Connection (Optional)
To control the digital RGB lighting, connect the 3-pin female connector to the 3-pin male connector of the graphics card's LED header. Additional digital RGB LEDs can be connected to the remaining 3-pin male connector. The diagram illustrates two possible installation/routing options.
Step 4: Water Circuit Connection
Two options are available for connecting the unit to the water circuit: use either the two G1/4" threads or the 5/3mm connections in conjunction with the optionally available MCX distributor (article number 13041).
Step 5: Final Connections
Close the 3mm barbed fittings with the enclosed caps. Screw in the G1/4 screw plugs using the enclosed tool.
