Precautions
WARNING: Negligence could result in death or serious injury.
- Do not open the case; high voltage is present internally.
- Do not dismantle or alter the unit.
- Do not use non-specified power sources.
- Keep the unit away from water or liquids.
- Do not insert metal or flammable material into openings.
- Use only specified voltage power supplies.
- Do not connect any terminal to an AC power line.
CAUTION: Negligence could result in injury to people or damage to property.
- Do not install or make wire terminations while power is plugged in.
- Ensure wires are not crossed or shorted before powering on.
- Install the unit in a convenient, secure location.
- Use only Aiphone power supplies or specified models.
- Avoid locations with direct sunlight, high temperatures, dust, oil, chemicals, extreme moisture/humidity, low temperatures, steam/smoke, noise-generating devices, or frequent vibration/impact.
- Do not place objects on or cover the unit.
- Do not press or impact the LCD screen.
- If LCD liquid crystal leaks, avoid contact and seek medical attention.
General Precautions:
- Keep unit more than 1m away from radio or TV sets.
- For indoor use only.
- Be aware of potential radio frequency interference in areas with broadcasting antennas.
- Comply with specifications for third-party devices used with the system.
- Keep intercom wires at least 30 cm away from AC lines.
- If the unit malfunctions, unplug power or turn off power switches.
- Use for wall-mount only; use desk stand for desktop applications.
- Unit case may become warm during use, but this is not a malfunction.
- Cellular phone use nearby may cause malfunction.
- LCD panel manufacturing may result in minor lighting inconsistencies, which are not malfunctions.
- Refrain from using the unit in direct sunlight.
- At night, reduced lighting may make faces harder to see, but this is not a malfunction.
- Maintain a distance of 50 cm or less for clear communication.
- Loud ambient noise may affect communication clarity.
- Wait for the other person to finish speaking before speaking.
- Pictures may vary under fluorescent lighting, but this is not a malfunction.
- Condensation may cause blurry images temporarily in cold weather, but this is not a malfunction.
- Environmental noise may affect communication clarity, but this is not a malfunction.
- Video image outlines may differ from actual appearance, but this is not a malfunction.
- Video door station screens freezing in winter is not a malfunction.
- This unit is not interchangeable with JA, JF, KB, and KC series units.
- Warm-color lighting may alter picture tint.

2 Installation
2-1 Mounting locations
- Install in a place not exposed to direct sunlight.
- Allow at least 5 cm (2") of open space on either side of the unit.
- Allow at least 15 cm (6") of vertical open space from the mounting bracket center.
2-2 Wiring method, wiring distance
Wire units station-to-station (daisy-chained).
Refer to the table for wiring distances based on cable type and AWG:

2-3 Cable
- Use PVC-coated cable with PE insulation.
- Never use individual conductors, twisted pair cable, or coaxial cable.
- When using a cable with unused conductors, terminate both ends of the unused pair(s) with a 120 Ω resistor.
3 Mounting
Back wiring
1. Press the RELEASE button to insert or remove the wire.
2. Insert the cable into the terminal.
Surface wiring
Route cables to the top or bottom of the unit. Cut a cable inlet on the upper part of the unit for wiring passage.
For rear passage, cut a cable inlet section on the rear side of the unit.
Option connector
Control external devices connected with the option connector.
Press-to-talk setting: Press-to-talk can be set to enabled or disabled.
- ON: Press-to-talk enabled
- OFF: Press-to-talk disabled
Notes:
- To prevent shorts, cut unused lead wires and insulate the ends.
- [1] Video signal output: Video can be output to DVR, etc. (NTSC, 1 Vp-p/75Ω). Wiring distance: 3 m (10'). A buzzing sound may occur depending on the installation environment. Video signal is output only during calling, communication, or monitoring. Recorded pictures are not output.
- [2] Options output: (AC/DC 24 V, 1.6 A N/O dry closure contact) (Minimum contact: 100 mV DC, 0.1 mA)
- [3] External sensor input: Input method is N/O dry closure contact. Detection confirmation time: 100 mS or more. Contact resistance: Less than 700 Ω (dry closure), At least 3 kΩ (N/C dry closure). Terminal short current: Less than 10 mA. Voltage between terminals: Less than DC 20 V.
4 Wiring
Insert wires securely into each terminal.
Wiring Diagram:
Connect the DOOR Video door station (JK-DA, JK-DV, JK-DVF) to the JK-1MD Master monitor station.
Connect JK-1HD Sub master station and JK-1SD Audio only sub master station as shown.
Optional call extension speaker IER-2: Connect as shown.
Power supply: Use PS-1820, PS-1810DIN, or PS-1820DIN.
Door release: An EL-12S or equivalent part and a separate AC transformer are required. Run separate cables for audio/video and door release.
Optional long distance adaptor JKW-BA: Use for longer wiring distances as shown in the table.

(*) The option button controls connected option units such as turning lighting on and off and activation of added door releases.
6 Operations
6-1 Answering a door call (HANDS-FREE mode, PTT mode)
HANDS-FREE mode:
- Press CALL button.
- Chime tone sounds, caller is seen on video monitor, and outside sound is heard. Audio and video turn off after approx. 45 seconds if not answered.
- Press TALK button momentarily. Communicate hands-free. Transmit LED (red) lights when talking, goes off when listening.
- Press OFF button to end communication.
PTT mode (Push-to-Talk):
- Press and hold TALK button for 1 second or more. A beep sounds, then another beep, engaging PTT mode. Brief presses (less than 0.5 seconds) do not engage PTT mode.
- Keep TALK button pressed while communicating. Release TALK button to hear the caller.
- Press OFF button to end communication.
NOTES: Communication ends automatically after approx. 1 minute. Transmit LED may light up and go out, which is not a malfunction. PTT mode cannot be used if press-to-talk is disabled.
6-2 Activating door release
- Press DOOR RELEASE button.
- Open door while the release mechanism is activated. The DOOR RELEASE LED (red) flashes during release.
6-3 Entrance monitoring
- Press MONITOR button in standby mode.
- The video monitor displays the image from the door station and incoming audio is heard. Inside station sound is not heard by the caller unless TALK button is pressed.
- Press OFF button to end communication.
NOTES:
- To talk during entrance monitoring, momentarily press TALK button.
- Entrance monitoring turns off automatically after approx. 1 minute.
- Monitoring time can be extended by pressing MONITOR button again.
- Press ZOOM/WIDE button to switch between wide and zoom pictures.
- Illuminator LED lights up when TALK button is pressed at night.
- A warning beep sounds if another unit attempts entrance monitoring simultaneously.
6-4 Room-to-room communication
- Press CALL button to initiate communication. A call-in is sent to the sub station.
- If the other person presses TALK button, hands-free communication is possible.
- Press OFF button to end communication.
NOTES: Room-to-room communication ends automatically after approx. 10 minutes. If a call is received from the entrance during room-to-room communication, the entrance image is displayed. Press OFF to end room-to-room communication, then press TALK to switch to the door station.
6-5 Wide/Zoom switching
Press ZOOM/WIDE button when a picture is displayed to switch between wide and zoom views.
6-6 Pan/Tilt operation
When a zoom picture is displayed, use the directional buttons (Up, Down, Left, Right) to pan and tilt the image. Diagonal movement is also possible.
6-7 Zoom Picture Preset
Set a preferred zoom picture position for when a call is received. Switching from wide to zoom displays the preset position.
- When a zoom picture is displayed, press the directional buttons to set the desired picture position.
NOTES: To change the preset, repeat the setting process. Preset positions are reflected on sub monitor stations, but cannot be set from them.
6-8 Night illumination
The door station Illuminator LED lights up during calling or communication at night.
6-8-1 When a call is made from the door station:
- If CALL button is pressed, the Illuminator LED lights up.
- When communication ends, the Illuminator LED goes out.
6-8-2 When the Illuminator LED is lit up during entrance monitoring:
- When TALK button is pressed during entrance monitoring, communication starts and the Illuminator LED lights up. Inside sound can be heard at the entrance.
- When communication ends, the Illuminator LED goes out.
NOTES: Day/night distinction is automatic. Distinguishing between day and night is automatically done by the door station.
6-9 Backlight adjustment, Night sensitivity adjustment
To perform adjustment: Press ADJUST button when the screen is difficult to see. Automatic adjustment for better visibility is performed.
To halt adjustment: Press ADJUST button during adjustment.
NOTES: Day/night distinction is automatic. Pressing ADJUST at night may improve caller visibility but may make moving subjects harder to see.
6-10 If optional units are installed
When a separately-installed sensor detects a malfunction or CALL button is pressed, the alarm sound occurs and the transmit LED (red) flashes.
- Press OFF button to stop the alarm sound.
NOTES: The alarm sound will still occur even if the volume is set to 0. The alarm sound stops automatically after 30 seconds. If there is a call from the entrance or another inside unit during notification, the system switches to that communication.
7 Technical Precautions
- Operating temperature: 0 °C to 40 °C (+32 °F to +104 °F).
- Video image may distort when the door release is activated, but this is not a malfunction.
- Cleaning: Use a soft cloth dampened with a neutral household cleanser. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths.
- If a system malfunction occurs, turn the power switch OFF and ON. If the problem persists, unplug the DC power supply and contact a qualified technician.

Warranty
Aiphone warrants its products against material or workmanship defects for two years after delivery to the end user. Aiphone will perform free repair or replacement for defective products under warranty. Aiphone reserves the right to make the final decision on warranty claims. This warranty does not cover misuse, neglect, accidents, unauthorized repairs, or damage caused by batteries. Warranty covers carry-in repairs only. Aiphone is not responsible for costs incurred during on-site service calls or any loss or damage resulting from product breakdown or malfunction.
The object area of warranty is the EU.
