Device Panels
This section describes the physical ports and indicators on the ZyXEL P-660HN-51.
Front Panel
The front panel features the following:
- POWER: Power indicator light.
- DSL: DSL connection status indicator.
- INTERNET: Internet connection status indicator.
- WPS/WLAN: WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) and WLAN status indicator.
- LAN1-4: Indicator lights for the four Ethernet LAN ports.
Back Panel
The back panel features the following ports:
- POWER: Power input socket.
- RESET: Reset button (usually recessed).
- LAN PORT 1-4: Four Ethernet LAN ports for wired connections.
- DSL PORT: Port for connecting the DSL telephone line.
Overview
The P-660HN-51 is an ADSL router equipped with a four-port Ethernet switch and IEEE 802.11n wireless capability. It enables both wired and wireless clients to securely access the Internet. The integrated firewall provides protection against unauthorized network access. Additional features include Quality of Service (QoS) to optimize the flow of time-sensitive services and applications.
Hardware Connections
This section details the physical setup of your P-660HN-51.
Follow these steps to connect your device:
- DSL Connection: Use a telephone cable to connect the P-660HN-51's DSL port to a telephone jack. If a splitter is installed, connect to the splitter.
- LAN Connection: Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to one of the LAN ports for initial configuration and Internet access.
- Power Connection: Connect the provided power adapter to the P-660HN-51's POWER socket and to an appropriate power source. Ensure the power outlet is active.
Connecting and Powering On
After connecting the power adapter, observe the front panel lights:
- The POWER light blinks during startup and remains solid when the device is ready.
- The DSL light indicates a successful DSL connection.
- The WPS light turns on when the wireless LAN is ready.
- The INTERNET light indicates Internet access and blinks when data is being sent or received.
- Each LAN light indicates a connected LAN port and blinks when there is network traffic.
If the POWER, DSL, or connected LAN lights do not illuminate, check all cable connections and inspect for damage. If the issue persists, contact technical support.
Set Up a Wireless Network
You can establish a wireless network using the following methods:
Using Wireless Protected Setup (WPS)
To enable the WPS function, press and hold the WPS button on the P-660HN-51's front panel for more than 5 seconds.
Follow these steps to add a WPS-enabled device to your wireless network:
- Place the devices you intend to connect near each other.
- Press the WPS button on the P-660HN-51. The WPS light will blink.
- Within 2 minutes of pressing the P-660HN-51's WPS button, press the WPS button on the compatible device. The WPS light on the P-660HN-51 will shine steadily once the connection is established.
Set Up a Wireless Network Manually
The wireless LAN on your P-660HN-51 is enabled by default. To connect a wireless client, use the network settings typically found on the bottom panel of the device. These settings usually include:
- SSID: e.g., ZyXEL00561
- Security Mode: e.g., WPA-PSK
- Pre-Shared Key: e.g., FB373BD356
Configure your wireless devices with these same settings. Note that default wireless settings may vary per P-660HN-51 unit; always refer to the information provided on your specific device's bottom panel.
Log into the Web Configurator
Your device may already be configured for Internet access. However, you can log into the P-660HN-51 Web Configurator to perform various tasks, including:
- Manually configuring Internet access settings.
- Customizing Quality of Service (QoS) and routing features.
- Creating firewall and web filter rules.
- Managing remote access and other advanced features.
To log in:
- Open your web browser and navigate to http://192.168.1.1.
- Enter the default user name admin and password password1, then click Login.
Troubleshooting Login: If the login screen does not appear, ensure that your web browser allows pop-up windows, JavaScripts, and Java permissions. Your computer should also be configured to obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP. Consult your User's Guide for more detailed information.
After successful login, a welcome screen may appear summarizing your last login session (time, failed attempts, password expiry). You can choose to display this screen on subsequent logins by selecting "Show this page next time". Click Continue to proceed.
Changing the Login Password
It is recommended to change the default login password for security. On the next screen:
- Enter your desired new password in the "New Password" field.
- Re-type the new password in the "Verify New Password" field.
- Click Apply.
If you prefer not to change the password at this time, leave both fields blank and click Skip.
Recommendation: Write down your new password and store it securely.
Network Map and Status
The Network Map page displays the Internet access status for the P-660HN-51 and its connected devices.
Clicking on Status will present a screen showing detailed information about the P-660HN-51 device, its interfaces, and system status. This includes:
- Device Information: Host Name, Model Number (P-660HN-51), Firmware Version.
- WAN Information: Connection details.
- Interface Status: Status and rate for LAN ports, WLAN, and DSL.
- LAN Information: MAC Address, IP Address, IP Subnet Mask, DHCP status.
- WLAN Information: MAC Address, Status, SSID, Channel, Security Mode, 802.11 Mode, WPS status.
- System Status: System Up Time, Current Date/Time, CPU Usage, Memory Usage.
Further Information and Certifications
For more detailed instructions on using the Web Configurator screens and setting up your Broadband connection (especially if the INTERNET LED is off), please refer to your User's Guide.
Viewing Certifications
To view product certifications:
- Visit www.zyxel.com.
- Select your product from the drop-down list on the ZyXEL homepage.
- Navigate to the product's page and click on the Specifications tab to find the certifications list.
Customer Information Statement
This section outlines the rights and obligations of the user and the telephone company regarding the equipment. This information will be included in the final version of the manual.
- If the equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will provide advance notification for service discontinuance. If advance notice is not practical, notification will be provided as soon as possible. Users will be advised of their right to file a complaint with the FCC if deemed necessary.
- If you experience issues with the equipment, disconnect it from the network until the problem is resolved or you confirm the equipment is functioning correctly.
- Follow provided instructions for repairs (e.g., battery replacement). Do not alter or repair any parts of the device unless specifically instructed.
FCC Statement and RF Exposure Warning
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to two conditions: (1) the device must not cause harmful interference, and (2) it must accept any received interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
For a Class B digital device, the user manual shall include a statement similar to this, placed prominently:

These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. - Increase the separation distance between the equipment and the receiver.

This equipment must be installed and operated according to the provided instructions. The antenna(s) used for this transmitter must be installed to maintain a separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons and must not be co-located or operated in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. End-users and installers must be provided with antenna installation instructions and transmitter operating conditions to ensure RF exposure compliance.
