Fixture Installation

Flammable Material Warning: Keep fixture at least 7.9in. (0.2m) away from any flammable materials, decorations, pyrotechnics, etc.

Electrical Connections: A qualified electrician should be used for all electrical connections and/or installations.

Minimum Distance to Objects/Surfaces: Must be 40 feet (12 meters).

Maximum Temperature of External Surface: 167°F (75°C).

DO NOT INSTALL THE FIXTURE IF YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO DO SO!

Fixture MUST be installed following all local, national, and country commercial electrical and construction codes and regulations. Before rigging/mounting the fixture to any metal truss/structure or placing the fixture on any surface, a professional equipment installer MUST be consulted to determine if the metal truss/structure or surface is properly certified to safely hold the combined weight of the fixture, clamps, cables, and accessories.

Overhead fixture installation must always be secured with a secondary safety attachment, such as an appropriately rated safety cable that meets all local, national, and country codes and regulations.

Fixture ambient operating temperature range is -4°F to 104°F (-20°C to 40°C). Do not use this fixture outside this temperature range.

Fixture should be installed in areas outside walking paths, seating areas, or away from areas where unauthorized personnel might reach the fixture by hand.

NEVER stand directly below the fixture when rigging, removing, or servicing.

Allow approximately 15-minutes for the fixture to cool down before servicing.

Notice: The suitable environmental temperature for this lighting fixture is between -20°C to 40° C. Do not place this lighting fixture in an environment where the temperatures are under or above the temperatures stated above. This will allow the fixture to run at its best and help prolong the fixture life.

Diagrams illustrating the fixture installation process using an Omega holder, clamp, and safety cable. The process involves screwing a clamp via an M12 screw and nut into the Omega holder, inserting the quick-lock fasteners of the Omega holder into the adjustable mounting bracket, tightening them clockwise, pulling the safety cable through the opening on the bottom of the unit, over the trussing system or safe fixation spot, inserting the end in the carabiner, and tightening the safety screw.

When installing the unit, the trussing or area of installation must be able to hold 10 times the weight without any deformation. The unit must be secured with a secondary safety attachment, e.g., an appropriate safety cable. Never stand directly below the unit when mounting, removing, or servicing.

Overhead mounting requires extensive experience, including calculating working load limits and installation material. If you lack these qualifications, do not attempt the installation yourself. These installations should be checked by a skilled person once a year.

Diagram showing the ADJ Focus Flex L7 fixture mounted on a truss, with a safety cable attached. A warning symbol indicates the importance of the safety cable: "ALWAYS ATTACH A SAFETY CABLE WHENEVER INSTALLING THIS FIXTURE IN A SUSPENDED ENVIRONMENT TO ENSURE THE FIXTURE WILL NOT DROP IF THE CLAMP FAILS."

The Focus Flex is fully operational in three mounting positions: hanging upside-down, mounted sideways on trussing, or set on a flat level surface. Ensure the fixture is kept at least 0.2m (7.9in.) away from flammable materials. Always use and install the supplied safety cable as a safety measure. Never use the carrying handles for secondary attachment.

DMX Setup

DMX-512: DMX is short for Digital Multiplex, a universal protocol for communication between intelligent fixtures and controllers. A DMX controller sends DMX data instructions to the fixture via DATA "IN" and DATA "OUT" XLR terminals.

DMX Linking: DMX allows linking of fixtures from different manufacturers to operate from a single controller, provided they are DMX compliant. Use the shortest cable path for proper data transmission. The order of fixtures in a DMX line does not affect addressing; a fixture assigned address 1 will receive data for address 1 regardless of its position.

Data Cable (DMX Cable) Requirements: This unit is controlled via DMX-512 protocol and requires a 5-pin XLR connector for data input/output. Accu-Cable DMX cables are recommended. Use standard 110-120 Ohm shielded cable. Cables must be daisy-chained and cannot be split. Do not use the ground lug on the XLR connector or connect the cable's shield conductor to the ground lug or outer casing, as this can cause short circuits and erratic behavior.

Diagrams showing DMX512 OUT 3-PIN XLR and DMX512 IN 5-PIN XLR connectors, and a table for 3-Pin XLR to 5-Pin XLR Conversion (Ground/Shield, Data Compliment, Data True, Not Used).

Special Note: Line Termination: For longer cable runs, a 110-120 ohm 1/4 watt resistor (terminator) connected between pins 2 (DMX-) and 3 (DMX+) of the last fixture's male XLR connector can reduce signal errors and interference. ADJ part number Z-DMX/T is recommended.

DMX Addressing

Assign a DMX starting address to each fixture for correct control signal response. This address is the channel number from which the fixture "listens" to the DMX controller's signal. The assignment is done via the fixture's digital control display.

You can set the same starting address for all fixtures or different addresses for each. Setting the same address makes all fixtures react identically. Setting different addresses ensures each unit responds only to its assigned channel, based on its DMX channel mode. For example, in 16 Channel mode, the starting addresses for units 1, 2, 3, and 4 would be 1, 17 (1+16), 33 (17+16), and 49 (33+16) respectively.

Remote Device Management (RDM)

Note: RDM requires RDM-enabled equipment throughout the system, including DMX data splitters and wireless systems.

Remote Device Management (RDM) is a protocol layered on DMX512 that allows remote modification and monitoring of DMX systems. It is ideal for fixtures installed in hard-to-reach locations. RDM makes the DMX512 system bi-directional, enabling controllers to send signals and fixtures to respond (GET command). Controllers can use SET commands to modify settings like DMX Address, DMX Channel Mode, and Temperature Sensors directly via the unit's display screen.

Power Linking & Cleaning

Power Linking: This feature allows multiple units to be linked together via power input/output sockets. Maximum devices: 2 units @110v, 6 units @220v. After reaching this quantity, use a new power outlet. Linked devices must be of the same make and model type; DO NOT mix devices!

Cleaning: Due to fog residue, smoke, and dust, clean internal and external optical lenses periodically to optimize light output.

  1. Use normal glass cleaner and a soft cloth to wipe down the outside casing.
  2. Clean external optics with glass cleaner and a soft cloth every 20 days.
  3. Ensure all parts are completely dry before plugging the unit back in.

Cleaning frequency depends on the operating environment (smoke, fog residue, dust, dew).
