Correct Application of the Collar
Important: Correct fitting and placement of the receiver collar are essential for its efficient operation. The contact pins must be in direct contact with the dog's skin, at the base of the neck. To ensure safe and correct collar function, it must be applied correctly.
- Each electronic collar must fit snugly against the skin. The electrodes must fit perfectly on the skin under the fur, but should not be tight.
- If the collar is too loose, the stimulation will not work correctly, as the electrodes will not make proper contact with the animal's skin. If the dog does not respond to stimulation, always check if the electrodes are securely fastened to the skin.
- During training or running, a collar that is too loose can cause skin irritation on the animal's neck. A properly fitting collar will help prevent irritation.
- Correct collar adjustment is important. It should be adjusted so that it does not strangle the dog and allows it to breathe normally. The collar should never impede the animal's breathing.
- The receiver collar should be placed correctly in the center of the animal's neck.
To ensure maximum effect and safety for your dog, check the collar placement, its tightness, and the correct placement of the electrodes. Also, check the skin where the electrodes touch for any rash or irritation. In such cases, wear the collar for shorter periods or consult a veterinarian. Do not attach a leash to the collar. The collar should not be worn continuously for more than 12 hours a day (this is a recommendation for all collars, even non-electric ones). If irritation occurs, remove the collar until all signs of irritation have disappeared.
Maintenance
- Periodically check that the contact pins are not too tight against the dog's skin.
- Clean the contact points once a week with an alcohol-based product.
- Periodically check the dog's neck for signs of skin irritation.
- Wash the dog's neck regularly.
- If the strap is too long, do not hesitate to shorten it slightly.
