Product Maintenance
Oiling Shredder:
All cross-cut shredders require oil for peak performance. If not oiled, a machine may experience diminished sheet capacity, intrusive noise when shredding, and could ultimately stop running. To avoid these problems, Fellowes recommends oiling the shredder each time the waste bin is emptied.
Oiling Procedure (Repeat Twice):
- 1. Apply oil across entry.
- 2. Press and hold forward (▶️▶️) for 2-3 seconds.
Caution: Only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container such as Fellowes 35250.
Cleaning Auto-Start Infrared Sensors:
Paper detection sensors are designed for maintenance-free operation. However, on rare occasions, sensors may become blocked by paper dust, causing the motor to run even if no paper is present. (Note: two paper detection sensors are located in the center of the paper entry).
To Clean the Sensors:
- 1. Turn off and unplug shredder.
- 2. Locate Auto-start infrared sensor.
- 3. Dip cotton swab in rubbing alcohol.
- 4. Using cotton swab, wipe away any contamination from the paper sensors.
Troubleshooting
Indicator Lights:
- A. Overheat Indicator (red ?): Shredder has exceeded maximum operating temperature and needs to cool down. It will not operate during recovery.
- B. Bin Open (red ?): Shredder will not run if the bin is open. Close the bin to resume shredding.
- C. Bin Full (red ?): Shredder waste bin is full and needs to be emptied. Use Fellowes waste bag 36053.
- D. Remove Paper (red ?): Press reverse (◀️◀️) and remove paper. Reduce paper quantity to an acceptable amount and refeed.
- E. SafeSense® Indicator (yellow ?): If hands are too close to the paper entry, the indicator illuminates and the shredder stops. If SafeSense® is active for 3 seconds, the shredder automatically turns off; press the power button to resume shredding.
100% Jam Proof System*
Disabling the Feature:
- 1. To disable, press and hold the auto button (blue ?) and reverse (◀️◀️) key simultaneously.
- 2. Once disabled, the blue Auto light is no longer illuminated. (To re-engage, repeat step 1).
- 3. Shredding can continue with the system disabled, but a paper jam may occur with too many sheets, and the [Remove Paper icon ?] will illuminate.
Clearing a Jam:
- 4. If a jam occurs, press and hold forward (▶️▶️) key until the document is completely through the shredder.
- 5. If not cleared, press reverse (◀️◀️) briefly (repeat steps 4 and 5 until shredded).
- 6. If steps 4 and 5 do not clear the jam, reverse paper all the way out, remove several sheets, and refeed.
