Important Safeguards and Instructions

The important safeguards and instructions appearing in this manual are not meant to cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood that common sense, caution, and care are factors which cannot be built into any product. These factors must be supplied by the person(s) caring for and operating the unit.

Tools and Materials Required

Installation Steps

1. Mark Door

Use the template enclosed to mark installation holes on both sides of the door.

Diagram shows a door edge with a 1" (25mm) hole marked, and a door face with a 2 1/8" (54mm) hole marked at 2 3/4" (70mm) backset and 2 3/8" (60mm) backset options. A vertical line indicates the center of the door. A horizontal line indicates the height from the floor to the center of the hole, marked at 36" (914mm).

2. Drill Holes

A. Drill two 2 1/8" (54mm) holes through both sides of the door.

B. Drill 1" (25mm) hole deep enough to accommodate deadbolt latch.

C. Drill 1" (25mm) hole deep enough to accommodate spring bolt latch.

D. Drill 3/8" (10mm) hole for bottom screw.

Note: To avoid splitting, drill holes from both sides.
Diagram shows drilling points: A) Two 2 1/8" (54mm) holes on the door face. B) A 1" (25mm) hole on the door edge for the deadbolt latch. C) A 1" (25mm) hole on the door edge for the spring bolt latch. D) A 3/8" (10mm) hole on the door face for the bottom screw.

3. Latch Conversion (Interchangeable Face Plates)

Our latches come with interchangeable face plates allowing conversion from a radius shape to a drive-in configuration with no faceplate, so it will fit most doors. Look first at your door to determine which configuration will work best in your application and make the suitable change according to the instructions below, if needed.

Converting to Drive-in Configuration:

a.) Detach faceplate and base plate with a flat head screw driver. Remove both from the latch.

b.) Using the two halves of the drive-in sleeve, align each to fit the slots onto the latch. Press the sleeves allowing them to snap into the square notches on the sides of the latch.

Diagram shows: a) A latch with a faceplate and base plate, indicating removal with a screwdriver. b) The latch body with two halves of a drive-in sleeve being aligned and snapped into place.

4. Install Exterior Handle Mechanism

Place exterior handle with stems and square spindle into latch as shown. Press tightly against door face.

Diagram shows the exterior handle assembly with stems and a square spindle, indicating their insertion into the latch mechanism. Key components are labeled: Exterior handle, Stems, Square spindle, and Lower latch.

5. Install Interior Knobs

A. After exterior handle is in position, install interior knob and tighten screws.

B. Insert screw through washer and into bottom hole, tighten firmly.

Diagram shows the interior knob assembly. Key components are labeled: Interior knob, Machine screw, and Bottom screw and washer.

6. Install Latch

Note: Cut out must be parallel with edges of door.

a.) Install handleset spring bolt latch with desired faceplate configuration in the hole keeping latch parallel to the door face. Mark outline and remove latch.

b.) Chisel 1/8" (3mm) deep or until latch face is flush with door edge (only if needed).

c.) Install the latch so it will slide and lock when the door is in the closed position. Install deadbolt latch in "UP" position into the hole as shown on latch. Install screws into the holes on the faceplate if using radius faceplate.

d.) On drive-in latch only using a wood block between the latch and the hammer, keep latch vertical and lightly hammer the latch in place.

Note: A.) NEVER USE A HAMMER ON A LATCH WITH THE BOLT EXTENDED. B.) DO NOT EXTEND LATCH BOLT UNTIL THE LOCK IS INSTALLED.
Diagram shows: A) Hub slot in vertical position. B) Keep bolt fully retracted. C) Latch installation with screws. D) Latch being hammered into place with a wood block.

7. Install Deadlock Trim

A. Insert deadbolt trim and press against door making certain the torque blade is horizontally inserted and properly positioned in latch.

B. Slide inside mating trim onto torque blade, and secure with machine screws.

Diagram shows the deadbolt trim assembly with its torque blade, indicating insertion into the latch. Key components are labeled: Deadbolt trim, Torque blade, Mating trim, and Machine screw.

8. Mark Outline and Install Strikes

Mark Outline:

Mark outline of strike plate including fixing holes. Mark center of bolt holes for drilling as shown.

Drill and Install Strikes:

A. Drill two 1" (25mm) holes in door jamb x 1" (25mm) deep.

B. Mark outline for strikes. Chisel 1/16" (1.6mm) deep or until strikes are flush with jamb.

Diagram shows: Upper strike plate with screw holes and bolt hole outlined. Lower strike plate with screw holes and bolt hole outlined. A vertical centerline of the jamb is indicated.

9. Latch Backset Adjustment

This backset adjustment instruction applies only when adjustable latch is to be installed.

Note: Latch backset adjustment only needs to be made if your door needs a 2 3/4" backset. Otherwise NO ADJUSTMENT is necessary.

Converting factory pre-set 2 3/8" (60mm) to a 2 3/4" (70mm) backset:

a). While looking at the latch where it is marked UP, use a phillips head screw driver on the cross section of the latch and turn it counter clockwise until the arrow faces to your left.

b). Holding the latch (you will see 2 3/8" in a notch on the latch), twist the section of the latch with the cross 45 degrees and pull it back, now twist it back in the original position (you will now see 2 3/4" in the same notch).

c). Use a Phillips head screw drive on the cross section of the latch and turn in clockwise until the arrow faces to your right and it is ready to be installed.

Converting 2 3/4" (70mm) to 2 3/8" (60mm) backset:

Pull the rear part of the latch towards latch front until the indicator is completely shown 2 3/8" (60mm).

d). If your latch is set at 2 3/4", just follow the same steps as in a through c except after you twist the latch push forward instead of pulling back on the latch.

Diagrams show: 1) Latch with arrow pointing right (CORRECT) for 2 3/8" (60mm) backset. 2) Latch with arrow pointing left (INCORRECT) for 2 3/4" (70mm) backset. 3) Latch with a screwdriver turning the cross section counter-clockwise. 4) Latch with the rear part twisted 90 degrees and pulled back. 5) Latch with a screwdriver turning the cross section clockwise.

Care Instructions

The following care instructions should be observed to insure a long lasting finish:

  1. Remove locks, or do not install locks, prior to painting door.
  2. Clean only with mild soap and a soft cloth; avoid abrasives (such as steelwool or cleansers) degreasers or lacquer thinners, and sharp objects.
WARNING: Check alignment of latch hole center on the door and strike center on the jamb if resistance occurs against latch bolt movement of locking and unlocking. DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE OR TOOLS TO DRIVE THE LATCH.
