Directions
FOREHEAD READER OFF: Thermometer automatically switches to Ear Mode.
FOREHEAD READER ON: Thermometer defaults to selection mode.
- Press the Power/Measure button for 1 second to turn the thermometer on. The LCD screen will show the last measurement taken.
- Select your mode by following the directions for ear, forehead, or touchless use.
- Press and release the Power/Measure button again for 1 second.
- Once a beep is heard, the temperature reading can be viewed. 'T' indicates a temperature reading.
- The device automatically shuts off after 10 seconds of inactivity.
FOR EAR USE:
- Remove the forehead reader; this automatically selects Ear mode.
- Fit the probe snugly into the ear canal.
WARNING:
Ensure the ear is clean, with no earwax or obstructions. Readings may differ between the left and right ear; always use the same ear. Do not force the thermometer into the ear canal to avoid injury. Be cautious with children due to their small ear canals. Do not insert past the point of resistance.
NOTE: For children under 1 year, pull the ear straight back. For children over 1 year to adults, pull the ear up and back. Ensure the ear canal is straight for optimal infrared ray reception from the eardrum.
FOR FOREHEAD USE:
- With the forehead reader on, press the Mode/Memory button to choose 'Adult forehead mode' or 'Child forehead mode'.
- Touch the forehead reader to the center of the forehead.
WARNING:
If the forehead area is covered with hair, sweat, or dirt, clean it beforehand for better accuracy. Always check if the lens is clean. Ensure the user and thermometer have been in the same room for at least 30 minutes before measurement.
NOTE: Forehead measurements are indicative. Forehead temperature can fluctuate up to 1°F/0.5°C from actual body temperature. Refer to 'Normal Body Temperature / Fever Indicator' and 'Warning' sections for factors influencing accuracy.
FOR TOUCHLESS USE:
Note: This mode is ONLY for measuring room or object temperature, not body temperature.
- Press the Mode/Memory button to select the house icon [house symbol].
- Hold the thermometer about 1-3 cm (0.39-1.18 inches) away from the object.
TEMPERATURE READING
Forehead or Ear:
- Normal temperature: 89.6°F - 99.5°F (32°C - 37.5°C)
Indicator: Green light, one long beep - Low fever: 99.7°F -100.4°F (37.6°C - 38.0°C)
Indicator: Orange light, 3 short double-beeps. - High fever: 100.6°F - 109.2°F (38.1°C - 42.9°C)
Indicator: Red light, 3 short double-beeps.
Touchless - Room/Object:
- 32.0°F - 199.0°F (0°C - 100°C)
Indicator: White light, one long beep
It is recommended to take 3-5 measurements in the same location and use the highest one as the reading in the following situations:
- Newborn infants in the first 100 days.
- Children under three years of age with a compromised immune system where fever presence is critical.
- When the user is learning to use the thermometer until familiar with the instrument and obtaining consistent readings.
Functionality
- Switch between Mute and Un-Mute: With the thermometer on, press the Measure/Mute-unmute button for 5 seconds.
- F°/ C° conversion: Open the battery cover. Use the toggle switch to change between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C).
- Memory mode: Press the Mode/Memory button for 5 seconds to enter memory mode. Press the button again to cycle through up to 40 stored readings. If no value is saved, '---' will be displayed. NOTE: All stored readings are reset when batteries are replaced.
When to Call a Doctor
Call your child's doctor immediately if your child has a fever and:
- Is younger than 3 months (12 weeks) with a temperature of 100.4°F (38.0°C) or higher.
- At any age, the fever repeatedly rises above 104°F (40°C).
Battery Insertion and Replacement
First time use: 1) Pull off the battery door and open the battery chamber. 2) Insert two AAA batteries. 3) Slide the battery chamber back into place and reattach the battery door.
Replacement: 1) Replace the battery when the low battery icon [battery symbol] appears in the lower right corner of the LCD display. 2) Remove old batteries as per instructions and discard lawfully. 3) Replace with two new AAA batteries. Remove batteries if the thermometer will not be used for over two months.
Care and Cleaning
Use an alcohol swab or cotton swab moistened with 70% alcohol to clean the thermometer casing and measuring probe. Allow alcohol to dry completely before taking a new measurement. Ensure no liquid enters the thermometer's interior. Never use abrasive cleaning agents, thinners, or benzene. Do not immerse the instrument in water or other cleaning liquids. Avoid scratching the LCD screen surface.
Troubleshooting / Error Codes
Performance may be degraded if:
- Operation occurs outside stated temperature and humidity range.
- Storage occurs outside stated temperature and humidity range.
- The device experiences mechanical shock.
- Patient temperature is below ambient temperature.
Do not dispose of used batteries in the trash. Consult your local recycling center for proper battery disposal. Keep used batteries away from children, pets, and excessive heat.
Error | Problem/Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Er1 | The ambient temperature is not in range. | One long beep, and red backlit for 3 seconds. Take a measurement under an ambient temperature between 10°C (50.0°F) and 40°C (104°F). |
ErC | Memory error or calibration is not finished. | One long beep, and red backlight for 3 seconds. Item will be turned off automatically after 3 seconds. Contact dealer. |
Hi | In ear or forehead mode, T>42.9°C (109.2°F) In object mode, T>100°C (199°F) |
One long beep, and red backlight for 3 seconds. |
Lo | In ear or forehead mode, T<32°C (89.6°F) In object mode, T<0°C (32°F) |
One long beep, and red backlight for 3 seconds. |
36.8 | The power voltage is between 2.4V-2.7V | The battery icon will flicker, indicating low battery, but the thermometer can still be used. |
* | The power voltage is lower than 2.4V. | The battery icon will flicker, and the item will turn off automatically after 3 seconds. Replace with a new battery. |
Failed to power on | • The battery level is too low. • Polarities of the batteries are reversed. • The thermometer is damaged. |
• Replace with a new battery. • Ensure the batteries are in the correct position. • Contact dealer. |
Reading is too low | • The lens of the probe is dirty. • The distance to the target is too far. • User just came from a cold environment. |
• Clean the lens with a cotton swab. • Keep in contact with forehead or insert probe into the ear canal. • Stay in a warm room for at least 30 min before taking a reading. |
Reading is too high | User just came from a hot environment. | Stay in an adequately cool room for at least 30 minutes before taking a reading. |
Normal Body Temperature / Fever Indicator
Body temperature can vary from 97°F to 100.0°F and still be considered normal. The medically accepted 'normal' body temperature is 98.6°F. Body temperature is commonly lower upon waking. Temperature readings vary based on the body location. Oral readings between 97°F (36.1°C) and 100°F (37.7°C) are normal. Rectal readings are generally 1°F (0.5°C) higher; axillary readings are 1°F (0.5°C) lower.
A fever is defined as a body temperature elevated above an individual's normal. It is important to establish an individual's normal temperature by consistent tracking at the same body site and time when healthy.
