Drinking Fountain Start Up
- Flush the supply line, turn on the building water supply, and check all connections for leaks.
- Air in the system may cause an irregular bubbler stream initially. Covering the bubbler with a clean cup can help minimize splashing. Depress the front pushbutton until a steady stream is achieved.
- To adjust water flow, insert a slotted screwdriver into the hole on the underside of the fixture (in the knee clearance area) up to the flow regulator. Turn clockwise to increase flow, counterclockwise to decrease.
- Recheck all water connections while water is flowing and ensure there are no leaks.
Troubleshooting
1. Adjustments
- Cartridge: Water flow is adjustable via a slotted screwdriver; turn clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease.
- Bubbler Stream: The bubbler can be rotated slightly to direct the stream forward or backward to minimize splashing. If splashing occurs due to an unlevel unit, shim the lower mounting point.
2. Restricted or No Water Flow
- Ensure the water supply service stop valve is fully open.
- Verify a minimum of 20 psig supply line pressure.
- Check for twists or kinks in the outlet tubing.
- Inspect the water inlet "Y" strainer for sediment from the main supply, pipe dope, or flux. Clean or replace the screen as needed.
- The cartridge valve in the water control assembly or bubbler may be clogged with foreign material. Cartridge valves are replaceable but not repairable.
- Check flow adjustment as per start-up note #3.
- Clean any clogged flow control in the solenoid valve outlet elbow.
- Ensure power is connected to the transformer and wires are not loose or cut.
3. Water Drips or Will Not Shut Off
- Loosen nuts holding the valve bracket assembly to the bottom of the fixture (do not remove). Move the assembly back from the front push pad and tighten to lock in place.
- Replace the valve cartridge.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
General Cleaning
- Periodically remove the fountain top and clean the in-line strainer.
- Periodically remove the bottle filler panel and clean the inline "Y" strainer.
For Stainless Steel Units
- To remove water spots or rust spots, use a stainless steel cleaner/polish on a cloth.
- For stubborn spots or scratches, use synthetic abrasive general-purpose pads (e.g., Scotch-Brite™).
- Apply cleaner/polish to the pad and rub the panel gently with the grain.
- DO NOT use harsh chemicals, abrasive, or petroleum-based cleaners, as this will void the Murdock warranty.
- Keep stainless steel surfaces clean. Maintaining a coating of stainless steel cleaner/polish will preserve their appearance.
Push-In Fitting Installation
Note:
Fittings and tube must be kept clean, bagged, and undamaged prior to installation.
To Cut Tube:
Cut 1/4" PE tubing to the required length. Remove any burrs or sharp edges. Ensure the outside diameter is free from score marks and that the tube ends are square.
Inserting the Tube:
- Firmly and fully insert the tubing end into the push-in fitting until it reaches the tube stop (approximately 1/2" deep).
- Pull on the fitted tubing to ensure it is secure and will not come free. Water test the connection assembly to ensure there are no leaks before leaving the site.
Disconnecting the Tube:
Ensure the water line is depressurized. Push the collet square towards the push-in fitting body and hold. While holding the collet, pull the PE tubing to remove it from the fitting.
Cartridge Replacement/Strainer Maintenance
Procedure
Use the Universal Maintenance Tool for the following:
- Remove the Strainer Plug before cartridge replacement or strainer maintenance. Residual water may drain during plug removal.
- Clean the Strainer as needed with clean water.
- Cartridge Replacement: Insert the diamond end of the Universal Tool into the Pushbutton, rotate 90 degrees, and pull firmly to remove the Button. Remove the Cartridge Retaining Nut. Remove and replace the Cartridge, ensuring the inlet and outlet ports align with the ports in the Valve Body.
Note: The Strainer Screen must be in place for water to flow.
