Microwave Oven Maintenance and Care
General Cleaning
Before cleaning, ensure all controls are off and the oven and cooktop are cool. Always follow label instructions on cleaning products. Soap, water, and a soft cloth or sponge are suggested first, unless otherwise noted.
Stainless Steel
To avoid damage, do not use soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, cooktop cleaner, steel-wool pads, gritty washcloths, or abrasive paper towels. Rub in the direction of the grain.
Cleaning Method: Use Affresh®+ Stainless Steel Cleaner (Part Number W10355016) or affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaning Wipes (Part Number W10355049). Alternatively, use an all-purpose cleaner, rinse with clean water, and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Use vinegar for hard water spots.
Microwave Oven Door and Exterior
Keep the area where the oven door and frame touch when closed clean. Use mild, nonabrasive soaps and detergents, rinse with clean water, and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Glass cleaner and paper towels or a nonabrasive plastic scrubbing pad can be used on the glass.
Control Panel and Oven Door Exterior
To avoid damage, do not use abrasive cleaners, steel-wool pads, gritty washcloths, or abrasive paper towels on the control panel. Use glass cleaner on a soft cloth or sponge, not directly on the panel.
Oven Door Interior
Use the self-cleaning cycle. Wipe away any deposits with a damp sponge before running the cycle.
Oven Cavity
Do not use oven cleaners. Clean food spills when the oven is cool. At high temperatures, foods can react with porcelain, causing staining or etching.
Microwave Oven Cavity
Do not use soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, steel-wool pads, gritty washcloths, or some paper towels. For stainless steel models, rub in the direction of the grain.
Cleaning Method: For average soil, use mild, nonabrasive soaps and detergents. For heavy soil, heat 1 cup (250 mL) of water for 2-5 minutes to steam clean. For odors, heat 1 cup (250 mL) of water with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar for 2-5 minutes.
Oven Racks
Oven racks can be cleaned with a steel-wool pad or in a dishwasher. A light coating of vegetable oil on rack guides can help them slide if discolored.
Microwave Oven Ceiling
The broil element does not need cleaning. Clean the ceiling above the broil element with warm water, mild detergent, and a sponge. To clean, push the fastening thread gently, lower the broil element, clean the ceiling, then raise the broil element and secure the thread.
Self-Cleaning Cycle
WARNING: Do not touch the oven during the Self-Cleaning cycle. Keep children away.
The oven lights will not work during the Self-Cleaning cycle. On double-oven models, only one oven can self-clean at a time.
NOTE: The oven has a two-speed cooling fan motor. Fan noise may be noticeable during and after the cycle.
To Start Self-Cleaning:
- Ensure the door is closed completely for the lock to engage.
- Touch the Tools keypad.
- Select the Self Clean icon. (For double ovens, select Upper or Lower Cavity).
- Select the type of Self-Cleaning (Steam, High temp 4, 5, or 6 hours).
- Follow the prompts on the oven display.
- Select START to begin.
To Delay Start Self-Cleaning: Follow steps 1-4 above, then select DELAY START, choose the start time, and select START DELAY.
To Stop Self-Cleaning: Touch the Oven Cancel Keypad.
How the Cycle Works: The cycle uses high temperatures to burn soil to ash. Suggested clean times are 3 hours (light soil), 4 hours (medium soil), and 5 hours (heavy soil). After the oven cools, remove ash with a damp cloth.
Steam Clean (On Some Models)
The Steam Clean feature is designed for light oven cavity bottom cleaning. Do not use oven cleaners. Allow the oven to cool to room temperature before use. Remove all racks and accessories.
For best results, use 10 oz (295.7 mL) of distilled or filtered water. The cycle takes approximately 1 hour.
IMPORTANT: Do not open the oven door during the Steam Clean cycle.
To Steam Clean:
- Open the oven door, remove racks and accessories.
- Pour 10 oz (295.7 mL) of distilled or filtered water into the oven bottom. Close the door.
- Touch the Tools keypad.
- Select STEAM CLEAN. (For double ovens, select Upper or Lower Cavity).
- Select START.
- After approximately 1 hour, a tone will sound. Touch Oven Cancel or Upper/Lower to clear the display.
- When the oven has cooled, remove excess water with a sponge or cloth.
Helpful Hints: Wipe any remaining moisture. Use a soft brush or nylon scrubber for stubborn stains. Use distilled or filtered water. Vinegar or lemon juice can remove mineral deposits.
Installation Instructions Requirements
Tools and Parts
Gather required tools and parts before installation. Tools needed include Phillips screwdriver, measuring tape, hand or electric drill, 1" drill bit, level, and flat-blade screwdriver. Supplied parts include various screws, rear feet, front feet, and bottom vent/shield.
Electrical Requirements
Check local codes. It is recommended that all electrical connections be made by a licensed, qualified electrical installer. Ensure the electrical connection and wire size are adequate and conform to the National Electrical Code and Canadian Electrical Code.
Location Requirements
Observe all governing codes and ordinances. Cabinet opening dimensions must be used. Recessed installation requires a complete enclosure around the recessed portion of the oven. A grounded electrical supply is required. The electrical supply junction box should be located 3" (7.6 cm) maximum below the support surface. A 1" (2.5 cm) minimum diameter hole should be drilled for the appliance cable. The oven support surface must be solid, level, and flush with the bottom of the cutout. The floor must support a total weight of 208 lbs (95 kg) or 249 lbs (113 kg) depending on the model. Check with your builder or cabinet supplier to ensure cabinet materials will not discolor or sustain damage.
Cabinet Dimensions — Built-in Microwave/Oven Combination
Diagrams and measurements are provided for standard installation and flush installation for both 27" (68.6 cm) and 30" (76.2 cm) models. These include cabinet width, cutout dimensions, and depth requirements.
Electrical Connection
Determine the type of electrical connection and follow instructions. The oven must be connected to the proper electrical voltage, amperage, and frequency as specified on the model/serial/rating plate.
Models require different amperage circuits (40A, 30A, or 20A) depending on their kW rating. A circuit breaker is recommended.
Connect directly to the fused disconnect or circuit breaker box through flexible, armored or nonmetallic sheathed, copper cable. Flexible conduit from the oven should connect directly to the junction box. Do not cut the conduit. The length of conduit provided is for serviceability.
A UL listed or CSA approved conduit connector must be provided.
If the house has aluminum wiring, follow the recommended procedure for connecting aluminum to copper wiring using special connectors and tools.
Ensure electrical connection and wire size are adequate and conform to codes.
4-Wire Cable from Home Power Supply: Instructions are provided for connecting black wires, white wires, and the green (or bare) ground wire.
3-Wire Cable from Home Power Supply – U.S. Only: Instructions are provided for connecting black wires, white wires, and the green (or bare) ground wire.
