NEXEO | HDX™ IB7000 INTERFACE BOX

Introduction

The IB7000 is an interface box designed to connect the loop, microphone, and speaker to a NEXEO Base Station.

Tools/Equipment Required

  • Screwdriver/Wrench for opening speaker post.
  • Wire Strippers, cutters, and other standard tools used for terminating cables/wires.
  • Audio Cable (not included).

Installation and Setup

Figure 3 illustrates the typical connection of the IB7000 to a NEXEO Base Station and a speaker. It depicts the rear view of the IB7000 with its PLC/BASE, LOOP, and DM5 MIC | SPKR connectors. It also shows the Base Station's J4500/J4501 connectors and the SS7000 speaker's rear view. The diagram indicates that exposed shield wires should be insulated and grounded. A note specifies that if using an SP10 speaker, only two speaker wires are used. The Base Station is shown opened with a PCBA detail, connecting to a network router for cloud connection.

Adhesive strips on the housing allow the IB7000 to be affixed to a clean, dry surface inside the speaker post.

Note: The IB7000 must be mounted vertically, inside the speaker post, close to the speaker/microphone. This positioning helps minimize audio hum and noise. The IB7000 power LED illuminates green when connected to a powered-on base station. The cable connecting the IB7000 to the base station should not exceed 1000 ft (304 m).

The IB7000 features several connectors:

  • The two-pin Loop connector connects to the ground loop detector.
  • The three-pin PLC/BASE connector connects to J4500 on the base station. This connection requires the shield/drain to be grounded, as detailed in Table 1.
  • The seven-pin DM5 MIC | SPKR connector connects to the Microphone and Speaker, as detailed in Table 2.
  • The five-pin RELAY | BCKP SPKR connector (optional) connects to an intercom system like the IC300 if a backup is needed in the event of a system failure.

Installing the Weather Cover

The IB7000 Weather Cover must be installed onto the IB7000 to protect the electrical connections from corrosion due to water/moisture ingress. Even when installed in a speaker post or menu board, these locations do not guarantee a sheltered environment for the IB7000.

When installed, the top of the weather cover completely seals the IB7000 on top to prevent water or moisture ingress. The bottom has an opening to allow all the IB7000 cables to exit beneath the IB7000 once the cover is in place.

Note: The cover must be oriented and installed correctly to be effective. Figure 4 shows the IB7000 rear view with the weather cover being attached. It highlights the 'THIS SIDE UP' orientation label on the cover and indicates that cables are bundled to exit through an opening at the cover's bottom.

Installation Steps:

  1. Orient the weather cover correctly before installing (refer to the up arrow on the cover rear, as shown in Figures 4 & 5).
  2. Attach the cover by first placing the top latch over the ridge and housing seam of the IB7000 (Figure 6).
  3. Hinge the bottom part of the cover onto the bottom part of the IB7000. If resistance is met, the bottom latches are flexible and can be pried onto the IB7000 (Figure 6).
  4. Verify all IB7000 cables exit through the opening at the cover bottom before pressing the cover to close. The cover will snap securely into place (Figure 7).

To remove the cover: Perform the above steps in reverse order. Use fingers to pry the flexible latches on the cover bottom while detaching it from the IB7000 ridge and housing seam. Hinge outward away from the IB7000 until the top freely detaches.

Figure 5 provides a side view of the weather cover and the IB7000, illustrating the 'Rigid Top Latch' on the cover and the 'Opening for cables to exit' at the bottom. Figure 6 shows the process of attaching the weather cover, depicting placing the top latch over the ridge and housing seam, and hinging the bottom part. Figure 7 shows the final step of attaching the weather cover, indicating it snaps securely into place.
