Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury:
- Read all instructions before using.
- Plug directly into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
- If the filter is covered by a bag, remove the plastic bag before use.
- Keep the cord away from traffic areas; do not place under rugs or near heat sources.
- Do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids; do not use near water.
- Close supervision is necessary when used by or near children or disabled persons.
- Always unplug the unit before moving, cleaning, opening the grill, changing the filter, or when not in use. Pull the plug, not the cord.
- Never drop or insert objects into openings.
- Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug. Return for examination/repair if damaged.
- Use only for intended household use.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Never place on soft surfaces (bed, sofa) that could block air inlets/outlets.
- Keep away from heated surfaces and open flames.
- Do not attempt to repair or adjust electrical/mechanical functions; servicing by Jarden Consumer Solutions or authorized center only.
- Do not place anything on top of the unit.
- Always turn off before unplugging.
- The ionizer produces less ozone than UL limits (50ppb), but ozone can be harmful to birds/small pets. Use ionizer in well-ventilated areas with the fan on to prevent ozone buildup.
- Use only in rooms with temperatures between 40°F and 110°F.
- WARNING: Do not use with any solid-state speed control device.
Plug Safety
This product has a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) for safety. It fits into a polarized outlet only one way. If it does not fit fully, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact qualified personnel to install the proper outlet. Do not alter the plug.
Features
Your Holmes® air purifier features:
- A HEPA-Type filter that removes up to 99% of airborne dust and pollen as small as 2 microns, and helps reduce smoke, mold spores, and pet dander.
- Arm & Hammer® baking soda and carbon to absorb and eliminate household odors.
- An optional ionizer to naturally improve performance and freshen the air.
Ionizer Functionality
The optional ionizer releases negative ions into the filtered air to aid purification. Ions are naturally occurring particles. Negative ions attach to airborne particles (dust, pollen, smoke, pet dander), giving them a negative charge. These charged particles may clump together, forming larger particles that are more easily captured by the filter.
Important Notes:
- Occasional popping or cracking sounds from the ionizer are normal.
- Dust may appear around grills/panels due to negative ions; clean with a soft brush or damp cloth.
- Larger particles may attract to positively charged surfaces (walls, floors). This can happen more frequently when the filter is nearing replacement.
- Excessive pet dander, dust, or smoke can reduce filter life and interfere with ionization. To mitigate this, run the ionizer less often or check filters more frequently.
CAUTION: Use the ionizer in well-ventilated areas with the fan on to prevent ozone buildup, which can be harmful to birds and small pets.
HEPA-Type Filter
HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are designed to remove up to 99% of airborne pollutants, 2 microns or larger, including tobacco smoke, household dust, pet dander, and pollen. (Tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.)
Features & Operations
Speed Settings
Your air purifier has three speed settings: HIGH [High Speed], MEDIUM [Medium Speed], and LOW [Low Speed]. For optimum filtration, operate continuously on MEDIUM. Use LOW for quieter operation (e.g., bedrooms) and HIGH for quickly filtering high pollution levels.
Before Use
- Unpack the air purifier and place it on a firm, level surface with unobstructed air inlets and outlets.
- If the filter is bagged, remove the plastic bag before use and install the filter.
- Do not point the filtered air outlet towards a wall.
Operating Instructions
- Plug into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
- Select desired speed (HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW) using the speed control switch.
- To activate the ionizer, move the ionizer switch to ON; the ionizer light will illuminate.
Continuous operation is recommended for optimal air filtration.

Cleaning & Maintenance
Cleaning Instructions
- Turn off and unplug the air purifier before cleaning.
- Clean the exterior with a soft, clean, damp cloth.
- The rear air inlet grill can be removed and washed in warm, soapy water (not dishwasher safe). Dry thoroughly before replacing.
- Clean the filtered air outlet with a small, soft brush.
- For the interior, use a dry, soft cloth.
WARNING: Do not allow moisture to contact internal components.
Filter Replacement
Filter Replacement Instructions
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to wash and reuse the HEPA-type filter.
- Turn off and unplug the air purifier.
- Remove the air inlet grill. Remove and examine the foam pre-filter. If dirty, wash it in warm, soapy water, rinse, and drip dry thoroughly before replacing it into the grill.
- With the front grill removed, check the HEPA-type/carbon filter. Replace if dirty. Do NOT wash or reuse the filter.
- Install the new filter, ensuring the clip attaches correctly without force.
- Align the filter clip with the rails inside the purifier unit and gently slide the filter(s) onto the rails.
- Replace the air inlet grill.
Note: Filter life varies by air quality and usage. Replace filters after 4 months of continuous use for 4-month life filters, or wash the foam pre-filter after 4 months for 12-month life filters.
