Pitching
Pitch Time: Approximately 13 minutes (with assistance), 24 minutes (solo).
This tent should be erected by at least two persons.
Pitching Process Description
The pitching process for the Outwell WINWOOD 8 tent involves several steps, requiring at least two people for efficient setup. The estimated pitching time is approximately 13 minutes with assistance.
The process generally follows these steps:
- Preparation: Unpack the tent and familiarize yourself with how it's packed, which aids in repacking.
- Site Selection: Choose a level, clear area free from sharp objects like rocks or branches. Avoid pitching directly under trees. Position the tent with its rear facing the wind for better stability.
- Pole Assembly and Insertion: Assemble the tent poles, identified by labels such as A1, A2, B, C, D1, D2, E, F, G, and H. Insert these poles into the corresponding sleeves on the tent fabric. The diagrams illustrate the sequence of connecting and securing these poles to form the tent's structure.
- Securing the Tent: Peg the tent securely to the ground using the provided pegs. For windy conditions, use storm pegs. For stony or hard ground, U-shaped pegs are recommended.
- Guylines: Attach and tension the guylines to further stabilize the tent, especially in adverse weather. Do not use guylines to pull out tent pegs.
- Final Adjustments: Ensure the tent is taut but not over-tensioned, allowing it to adapt to changing weather conditions.
Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
Congratulations on your new innovative Outwell® tent, designed and created to accompany you into the great outdoors.
Be aware that ultraviolet (UV) rays will damage your tent if it is exposed to direct sunlight for longer periods. Outtex® fabric used on Outwell® tents increases the tent's lifetime.
Outwell products are made for camping use, typically 2-5 weeks per year. They are not designed for permanent usage and should only be used as camping products. Camping near the sea or a lake can further enhance the effect of UV radiation, as can poles and metal parts.
Site Selection and Positioning
- Open the bag and observe how the tent is packed; this helps with repacking.
- When selecting your campsite, choose an area that is as level and clean of rocks, branches, and other sharp objects as possible. Avoid placing the tent directly under trees.
- Position the tent with the door in the desired direction and its rear facing the wind for best results in windy conditions.
- It is recommended to have a trial run, pitching and taking down the tent before your first trip to become familiar with it.
Condensation and Ventilation
- Under certain weather conditions, condensation can occur on the inside surfaces of your tent. To help prevent this, remove wet clothes, increase ventilation, or erect your tent on an Outwell® Footprint.
- Condensation should not be confused with leakage.
- The flysheet is made of waterproof material. To prevent water from seeping through, avoid touching the inside surface in rainy weather.
Erecting and Tensioning
- When erecting your tent, do not secure it too tightly, as it needs to adapt to varying wind and weather conditions.
- If strong winds are expected, replace normal tent pegs with storm pegs. Do not use guylines to pull out tent pegs. For stony or hard ground, stronger U-form pegs are recommended.
- Insecticides must not be sprayed in or on the tent as they may damage the fabric and coating.
Drying, Packing, and Storage
- When taking down and packing the tent, it must be completely dry to avoid mildew/rotting.
- After use, lightly grease all metal poles with a non-acidic oil.
- Remove dirt from the tent with a soft sponge and pure water. Never wash the tent in a washing machine or have it dry-cleaned.
- Store the tent in a dry place.
Seam Care and Waterproofing
- Although special waterproof thread is used for seams, it is recommended to use a seam sealer or waterproof spray at regular intervals for seams around zips and toggles, as these are high-stress points.
- The seam sealing tape may detach after prolonged exposure to the sun. If this happens, repair by removing loose tape and using a seam sealer and waterproof spray.
- Minor leaks from taping can be re-sealed using a seam sealer. Leaks can occur from single threads, folds in tape, or other human-made issues.
- It is recommended to use Outwell Waterguard on the flysheet material at regular intervals to increase its lifespan.
- If your tent has a mud valance, never use it to adjust the tent or pull out tent pegs, as it is designed only to keep wind and water out of the living and storage areas.
Taking Down Your Tent
- If detachable, remove and clean the groundsheet with a sponge and water. Clean dirty floors similarly. Allow to dry before packing.
- If the inner tent is wet or dirty, take it out and clean it. The tent can be packed with or without the inner tent inside.
- Unpeg the tent and guylines. Gently remove poles from pins and push them through sleeves (do not pull).
- Fold the tent so that all metal pins/rings are on one side to prevent them from making holes in the flysheet.
- Measure the folded tent against the carry bag to ensure it is not too wide. Roll the tent around the poles in their bag and fit it into the Outwell carrybag.
Outwell Wind Stabilizer System (OWS System)
Testing and determination of OWS System performance and Beaufort ratings are based on Outwell's knowledge and technique at the time of testing. Outwell is not responsible if subsequent developments show this knowledge to be flawed. Ratings are obtained by testing similar tents at Oase Outdoors ApS facilities and are not a guarantee of this tent's properties. Factors like ground conditions, pegs, weather, setup, and wear can affect performance.
Quick & Quiet Closure Magnets
These magnets are flexible and can be bent back into shape if required. Lay them flat when packing the tent to prevent damage. *Patented.
