Sommer Telecody Installation Instructions

Telecody Installation Instructions

Instructions for installing and operating the Sommer Telecody wireless keypad.

Description

The Telecody is a control device that transmits radio commands to a receiver/drive system (e.g., garage door operator). It requires a valid access code entered via its keypad to transmit commands.

Key Definitions

  • Radio command: Transmitted by the Telecody after entry of a valid access code.
  • Access time: Single digit or sequence of digits (0-9) entered through the keypad.
  • Active time: Time during which a previously transmitted radio command is sent again when any key is pressed.

Serial Number Sticker

Place the adhesive serial number sticker in a secure location. This number is required for deleting all programmed access codes if they are forgotten.

Description of Functions

Upon entry of a valid access code, the Telecody transmits the radio command for two seconds (indicated by LED 2 being on). Each key press is confirmed by LED 2 flashing three times.

Radio Commands

The Telecody is pre-programmed with 12 radio commands, each activated by a single key.

  3. For security, assign an access code to each radio command to prevent unauthorized access. Refer to the "Programming access codes" chapter.

Teaching process completed.

A. Display and Key Functions

The Telecody features a keypad and indicator LEDs.

  • 1. Programming key: Located on the radio receiver/drive (illustration shows duo/spring SL control).
  • 2. LED (Red):
    • Transmission operation: Continuously on.
    • Error/reset alert: LED 1 flashing.
    • Battery nearly empty: LED flashes during transmission.
  • 3. LED (Yellow):
    • Confirmation of key input: Flashes once.
    • Reset alert: Flashing.
    • Telecody locked: LED flashes briefly.
    • Programming access code, deletion of all access codes, switching active time on/off: LEDs 2 + 3 on for 2 seconds.
    • Keypad lock: LED flashes alternately for 20 seconds.

Keypad Functions

  • Numerical keys (0-9): Used for entering access codes.
  • ESC key: Terminates active time, cancels radio code entry, turns keypad illumination off.
  • 'P' key: Programming key. Used for changing access codes and resetting the device to default settings (in combination with 'M' key).
  • 'M' key: Programming key. Used for switching active time on/off and resetting the device to default settings (in combination with 'P' key).
  • Dot key: Sends radio command without code entry; turns keypad illumination on.
  • Circle key: Sends radio command without code entry; turns keypad illumination on.

Physical dimensions of the device are approximately 147 mm (height) x 48 mm (width) x 30 mm (depth).

B. Installation

Note: Push the screw through the keypad; the device will not be damaged. Installation height over ground should be approximately 1.6 meters. Observe alignment as shown in figure B.

Programming Access Code

For security, an access code must be assigned to each radio command. This prevents unauthorized access. Each access code consists of two parts, with a maximum of 8 digits:

  • Block 1 (1st digit): Corresponds to the selected radio command.
  • Block 2 (digits 2-8): A free sequence of digits.

Example Access Code: 1888

Programming Code for Radio Command 1:

  1. Press 'P'.
  2. Press '1'.
  3. Press 'P'.
  4. Enter part 1 of the access code: Press '1'.
  5. Enter part 2 of the access code (e.g., 7 digits): Press '8' three times (888).
  6. Press 'P'.

Programming is completed. LEDs 2 + 3 will be on for 2 seconds. To test, enter the access code '1888'; LED 2 will be on for 1 second.

Changing Access Codes

Example: Changing the access code for radio command 1.

  1. Press 'P'.
  2. Enter the old access code: '1888'.
  3. Press 'P'.
  4. Enter part 1 of the new access code: Press '1'.
  5. Enter part 2 of the new access code (e.g., 7 digits): Press '5' three times (555).
  6. Press 'P'.

Programming is completed. LEDs 2 + 3 will be on for 2 seconds. To test, enter the new access code '1555'; LED 2 will be on for 1 second.

Resetting to Factory Settings

This process deletes all programmed access codes and resets the device to factory settings. The Telecody remains switched on.

  1. Press 'M'.
  2. Press 'P'.
  3. Enter the 9-digit reset code (found on the adhesive label).
  4. Press 'M'.
  5. Press 'P'.

All access codes are deleted. LEDs 2 + 3 will be on for 2 seconds.

Operation

Requirements

  • The desired radio command must be taught to the receiver.
  • An access code must be programmed.

The radio command (e.g., "open garage door") can now be activated by entering the access code at the Telecody. The command is sent after the last digit of a valid access code is entered. LED 2 will be on for 2 seconds.

Switching Active Time On/Off

Default Status: OFF.

During the active time (20 seconds), pressing any key (except 'P', 'M', and 'ESC') retransmits the last entered access code and prolongs the active time by 10 seconds. This applies to all radio commands.

Switching On/Off:

  1. Press 'M'.
  2. Press 'P'.
  3. Press 'M'.

Programming is completed. LEDs 2 + 3 will be on for 2 seconds.

Checking if Active Time is On:

  1. Enter a valid access code. The radio command is transmitted for 1 second, and LED 2 is on.
  2. LED 3 flashes 20 seconds after the radio command has been sent.

Transmission Delay On/Off

Factory Settings: OFF.

The radio command is sent with a delay of 1-9 seconds. The setting range is 0-9, where 0 means no delay (delay OFF). This applies to all radio commands.

Switching On/Off:

  1. Press 'M'.
  2. Press 'P'.
  3. Select the desired delay time (0-9).
  4. Press 'M'.

Programming is completed. LEDs 2 + 3 will be on for 2 seconds.

C. Replacing Batteries

Follow these steps to replace the batteries:

  1. Remove cover (1).
  2. Remove screw (2).
  3. Pull the Telecody from its holder.
  4. Remove screw (3).
  5. Open the Telecody.
  6. Remove battery (4) and insert a new battery (observe correct polarity!).
  7. Reassemble the device by completing the above steps in reverse order (items 4 down to 1).

Battery Safety Warnings:

  • Keep batteries away from children. If a battery is swallowed, contact a doctor immediately.
  • Do not swallow or open batteries. Batteries cannot be recharged. Keep away from water and fire. Protect against high temperatures; risk of explosion or leakage.
  • Only use batteries of type CR 123 A (3 Volt).
  • Store and dispose of batteries in their packaging. Prevent contact with metal objects, which could discharge or damage the battery or cause ignition.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in household waste.
  • Dispose of damaged or spent batteries according to statutory regulations. Contact your local environmental authority or waste disposal contractor for queries.
  • Do not remove the polarity reversal protection; this prevents damage if the battery is installed incorrectly.
  • Always tighten screws (3) in an alternating sequence (like changing a car tire) to ensure the housing closes without tension. This prevents water from penetrating the housing. The device should slide easily into its holder; if not, tighten screws (3) further.
