NUX JTC Drum & Loop Pro (NDL-5) User Manual
This manual provides instructions for the NUX JTC Drum & Loop Pro (NDL-5).
Presentation
The JTC Pro is designed to elevate looper performance. It's a dual footswitch effect pedal capable of recording 6 hours of sound into 256 loop memories. The loop and drum controls are separate. The left footswitch controls recording and overdubs, and starts/stops playback of recorded loops. It also functions as a TAP TEMPO control, allowing you to set the drum tempo by tapping out the beat on this footswitch before recording a loop track. The right footswitch starts/stops the drum machine and triggers a break (a "transition") during playback. The JTC Pro also offers easy-to-use start and stop modes to make your jam session sound like an arranged song during your performance, as well as a One Shot mode to play any loaded accompaniment track without looping it. The JTC Pro features 2 outputs and multiple output modes, such as stereo connection to two amplifiers, or activating the built-in cabinet simulation for the right output to send your guitar signal directly to the PA system (or any stage monitor). The JTC Pro's drum sound benefits from high-quality, very realistic audio sampling. When connecting to any guitar amplifier or PA system, you get a full and dynamic drum sound. And if you're using a small amplifier for practicing your instrument, an option allows for drum frequency optimization. This option makes the drum sounds clearer and helps you achieve a true looper experience with smaller amplifiers.

Control Panel
Screen: Displays selected memory, song tempo, and other setting information.
STOP MODES Button: Used to select stop modes.
SAVE/DELETE Button: Save (save) a recorded track by pressing once. "58" will flash on the screen. Select a preset (1-256) and press again. Delete (erase) a preset by selecting it, pressing and holding the button, "DL." will flash on the screen. Press again to erase the preset.
LOOP LEVEL Knob: Adjusts the volume of the recorded loop.
LOOP LED Indicators: Red: recording. Green: playback.
TEMPO/TIME SIG. Button: Press to control drum tempo, press and hold to change the rhythm time signature (4/4 - 3/4 - Shuffle). Adjust with the RHY./TEMPO SELECT knob.
LOOP Footswitch (multifunction): Record/Play Mode: 1st press: start recording. 2nd press: stop recording and play the loop. 3rd press: start recording in overdub mode – this layers each pass of the loop until the footswitch is pressed again. 4th press: stop overdub recording and continue playing the loop with the recorded layers (press the footswitch again to record in overdub/press again to stop overdub). Press and HOLD (during loop playback with overdubs): the last overdub stops playing. Press and HOLD again: the last overdub plays again. Record/Overdub Mode: 1st press: start recording. 2nd press: start looping and begin recording in overdub – this layers each pass of the loop until the footswitch is pressed again. 3rd press: stop overdub recording and continue playing the loop with the recorded layers (press the footswitch again to record in overdub/press again to stop overdub). Press and HOLD (during loop playback with overdubs): the last overdub stops playing. Press and HOLD again: the last overdub plays again. Double press (during playback): the loop stops according to the selected "stop mode". Intelligent tempo beat: to use manual tempo beat (Tap Tempo), activate the drum machine before recording a loop track. Pressing the Loop footswitch twice with a gap between 40 BPM and 240 BPM determines the drum rhythm tempo. When setting the drum rhythm tempo this way, please wait 2 seconds before recording a track.
MEMORY SELECT Knob: Selects one of the 256 preset memories. Also controls general settings (see General Settings).
RHYTHM LEVEL Knob: Adjusts the drum volume.
RHY./TEMPO SELECT Knob: Rhythm: Cycles through the drum rhythm styles. Tempo: (Press the Tempo button) Sets the drum tempo (40-240 BPM). Time Signature: (Press and hold the Tempo button) Changes the time signature: 4/4 - 3/4 - Shuffle.
RHYTHM LED Indicator: Lights up when the drum machine is active, and blinks at the current tempo.
Rhythm Footswitch: Press to start the drum rhythm, press twice to stop it. While the rhythm is playing: press this footswitch to insert drum breaks. Drum breaks: each rhythm style has its own transition pattern (improperly called "break"). Simply press the footswitch during playback for this break to start immediately and continue until the end of the measure.
Note: If remaining memory is insufficient, the screen will flash "FUL", and you will need to delete some recorded loops to free up memory space to record new ones. Do not turn off your pedal until the reset process is complete.
Start Modes
The JTC Pro offers 2 start modes for recording. Before recording anything, you can select one of these modes indicated by "Ar" and "Nr"; select an empty preset, press and hold the Stop Modes button to select a mode.
- Normal Recording: This is the usual way to record a loop. Press the Loop footswitch and start playing. Timing is important, and it takes a little practice to create a perfect loop. However, it remains simple and easy to do. This is a natural way to jam with a looper pedal, and you will feel very comfortable after using it a few times.
- Auto Record (Ar): Great for beginners. Also very useful if the first chord is really difficult to play. Press the Loop footswitch, the JTC Pro will wait for the signal to be received. You can wait as long as you want, until you feel ready to play. When you start playing, recording begins, and you can stop it when you want by pressing again.
Stop Modes
You can choose how to stop your performance.
- INST. STOP: Double-click the Loop footswitch: the loop will stop instantly.
- ONE SHOT: This is an optional accompaniment track player. You can add your own complete song and play it once without looping.
- FINE: The loop will play until the end of the track.
- FADE OUT: Fade out over a duration of 10 seconds.
General Settings
To access the general settings, press and hold the Loop footswitch and connect the power cable to turn on the pedal. "GL6 SEE" (Global Settings) will appear on the screen. You can then activate the following functions:
- Other control by the Loop footswitch: Press the SAVE/DELETE button. You can choose the operating mode of the Loop footswitch using the Memory Select knob: P (Record/Play) or rd (Record/Overdub).
- Optional frequency optimization: Press the TEMPO/TIME SIG. button: you can use the Memory Select knob to set the frequency optimization (Fr) to on/off. It has 2 different functions for the left and right outputs.
- Left Output (AMP): When Frest is set to "on", the drum sound is optimized to sound better on a guitar amplifier. You can try the "on" and "off" settings to get the best drum sound from the JTC Pro. Technically, this attenuates the high and low frequencies to make the signal compatible with small practice amplifiers.
- Right Output (MIXER): You can send your guitar signal directly to a mixer (or a PA system/speaker, or an audio interface) by activating the frequency optimization for cabinet simulation. If you are using two guitar amplifiers, disable frequency optimization.
- Output Modes: Press the Stop Modes button and use the Memory Select knob to select the output mode:
- F3: guitar to the AMP output (left) and drums to the MIXER output (right).
- F4: drums/guitar on both outputs.
- FS: guitar/drums to the AMP output (left) and drums to the MIXER output (right).
Connections
Input: 6.35 mm jack input.
Left Output: 6.35 mm jack output (stereo) for amplifier.
Right Output: 6.35 mm jack output (stereo) for mixer (cabinet simulation).
