Introduction
METRON EV portable chargers PC04 and PC05 are designed to charge electric vehicles equipped with Type 2 charging sockets (European standard) from any standard industrial socket (e.g., 1-phase or 3-phase CEE sockets). A unique feature of Metron portable chargers is that all the charging station electronics are placed inside the Type 2 charging plug itself, eliminating the need for a separate in-line "bulky box".
This design makes METRON portable chargers lighter, easier to install and connect, and simpler to store in a carrier case compared to conventional chargers. They also offer the convenience of setting the desired charging current/power by simply pressing a button.
Two images of electric vehicle charging cables are shown. One cable is orange, and the other is black. Both cables feature a Type 2 connector on one end and a protective cap.Get Started
To begin charging, first plug the portable charger into the wall outlet. An indicator LED will start blinking; the number of blinks indicates the saved power setting (refer to the next page for details). Once connected to AC power, the LED will glow constantly, indicating standby/ready status.
When you plug the charger into the vehicle's Type 2 socket, the LED will begin to blink slowly, signifying that the vehicle is charging. When the electric vehicle is fully charged, the LED will glow constantly again.
Setting the Desired Charging Current/Power
METRON portable chargers allow users to set the desired charging current/power before plugging into the electric vehicle's Type 2 socket, or even while the vehicle is charging. The procedure is as follows:
- Press and hold the push button: The LED will switch off immediately.
- After 5 seconds, the LED will start blinking slowly.
- Release the push button after the desired number of blinks to set the charging current/power.
PC04 Charging Current/Power Settings
Number of LED blinks | Charging current/power |
---|---|
1 | 6 A / 1.4 kW |
2 | 8 A / 1.8 kW |
3 | 10 A / 2.3 kW |
4 | 13 A / 3.0 kW |
5 | 16 A / 3.7 kW |
6 | 20 A / 4.6 kW |
7 | 25 A / 5.8 kW |
8 | 32 A / 7.4 kW |
PC05 Charging Current/Power Settings
Number of LED blinks | Charging current/power |
---|---|
1 | 3 x 6 A / 4.1 kW |
2 | 3 x 8 A / 5.5 kW |
3 | 3 x 10 A / 6.9 kW |
4 | 3 x 13 A / 9.0 kW |
5 | 3 x 16 A / 11.0 kW |
The new charging current/power setting is stored in the charger's memory and remains the same even after the power supply is disconnected, until the setting is changed again.
Status Notification by LED Blinks
The LED indicator provides various status notifications:
LED Status | Notification |
---|---|
Slow blinking when power supply is applied | Indicating previous saved current setting |
Constantly on when not plugged in | Stand-by / Ready to charge |
Slow blinking when plugged in | Charging |
Constantly on when plugged in | Electric vehicle fully charged |
Slow blinking 2 times when plugged in | Electric vehicle requests room ventilation (no charging) |
Slow blinking 3 times (plugged in or not plugged in) | Portable charger overheated (no charging); restarts charging automatically when it cools down. |
Slow blinking 5 times (plugged in or not plugged in) | Wall plug overheated (no charging); restarts charging automatically when it cools down. Applies only to versions with wall plug integrated over-temperature protection. |
Rapid blinking (plugged in or not plugged in) | Fault |
Safety and Usage Notes
The 3-phase portable charger PC05 can also charge from a domestic 1-phase wall socket (Schuko) or a 1-phase 16A CEE "camper" socket if a proper adapter is used. In such cases, the PC05 behaves like a PC03 portable charger (same current/power).
The 1-phase portable charger PC04 can also charge from a domestic 1-phase wall socket (Schuko) or a 1-phase 16A CEE "camper" socket if a proper adapter is used. When using an adapter, ensure the charging current is set to 16A or less to prevent damage to the socket or a blown fuse.
⚠️ Versions of the portable charger without RCD protection are allowed exclusively on installations protected by RCD. Household 16A Schuko wall sockets must be designed for constant 16A current. If the cable has been damaged, the product should be removed from use immediately.

Model Designation Clarification
Portable charger models PC04 and PC05 may include additional designations (e.g., PC04xyz, PC05xyz) where "x", "y", and "z" can be alphanumeric characters or blank. These designations may represent color, wall plug type, lower charging current limits, factory versions, or future product differentiations, but they do not impact the general technical specifications.
What is RCD and How Does it Work?
RCD stands for Residual Current Device, also known as an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker or Safety Switch. Its primary function is to prevent fatal electric shocks by detecting electricity flowing through unintended paths, such as a person touching a live part. RCDs offer a higher level of personal protection than ordinary fuses or circuit-breakers.
PC04 and PC05 are equipped with Metron RCD Type B device, named RCDB1. This device provides the maximum level of personal protection by safeguarding against AC, pulsating DC, pure DC, and high-frequency AC leakage currents. To achieve the "BOXLESS" design, the RCD is integrated directly into the 3-phase 16/32A CEE plug, eliminating any unsafe exposed cable sections found in other chargers.
An illustration shows the EV portable charger plug with a red LED light illuminated, indicating that the RCD has cut off power due to leakage current detection.A red LED light on the PC04 and PC05 indicates that the RCD has cut off power due to leakage current detection. To reset the RCD, simply unplug the charger, wait a second, and plug it back in.
⚠️ On request, PC04/PC05 can be supplied without RCDs. The use of PC04/PC05 portable charger versions without RCD protection is permitted exclusively on installations that are already protected by an RCD. If the cable has been damaged, the product must be removed from use immediately.
Green Production
METRON produces its products using a carbon-neutral method based on a "Sustainable energy cycle." The production facility for charging cables and portable charging stations is the first fully sustainable facility of its kind for EV charging cables. All energy required for building heating, cooling, production processes, and employee transportation (excluding heavy material deliveries by trucks) is generated by two photovoltaic power plants and stored in four storage batteries. Nearly all raw materials used (cables, plugs) are sourced from the EU to shorten supply routes and support local economies. Purchasing METRON products contributes to the development of a sustainable economy.
Limited Warranty
METRON warrants its products to the original consumer purchaser against defects for a period of two (2) years from the date of purchase on all components. To be eligible for repair or replacement under this warranty, the product must be returned to METRON within the warranty period, and the original consumer purchaser must adhere to the following conditions: The product must not have been modified or altered by any unauthorized party, and it must have been used in accordance with the user manual.
This limited warranty does not cover damage resulting from improper use, accidental or intentional damage, misuse, abuse, corrosion, neglect, severe natural conditions (such as hail storms, lightning strikes, tornados, flooding, ice), or damage due to improper packaging during return shipment.
METRON does not cover any labor charges for troubleshooting, removal, or replacement of the product. All shipping costs related to repair or replacement of the product are the responsibility of the original consumer purchaser and must be pre-paid.
