Connecting Devices

This section details how to connect various devices to the GO:MIXER PRO. The unit is designed to connect instruments, microphones, and smartphones for recording audio.

Diagram Description: The GO:MIXER PRO unit is depicted with multiple connection points. Inputs include a USB port (for smartphone connection), MIC (XLR/TRS), PLUG-IN MIC, INSTRUMENT (L/MONO, R), and GUITAR/BASS. Outputs include MONITOR OUT (for headphones or speakers) and LINE IN 1 & LINE IN 2 (for audio players or other devices). Arrows indicate signal flow for different connection types.

Connection Steps

  1. To the GO:MIXER PRO, connect the instrument, microphone, or audio player that you want to record.
  2. Connect the included USB cable first to the GO:MIXER PRO and then to your smartphone (refer to page 6 for details).

Important Notes:

  • If you are unable to record on your smartphone, slowly repeat step 2.
  • To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume and turn off all units before making any connections.
  • Before turning the unit on/off, always ensure the volume is turned down. Some sound might be heard when switching the unit on/off even with the volume down; this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.
  • If operating on batteries, the POWER indicator blinks when batteries are low. Continued use will cause the power to automatically turn off after approximately one minute. Replace the battery as soon as possible.
  • In some cases, noise might be heard when connecting a smartphone or starting/operating an app.
  • (*1) Connect only the included cable to this unit's USB port. Do not connect the included cable to any device other than this unit (refer to page 6).

Smartphone Connection Details

Connecting an Android Smartphone: If connecting an Android smartphone, use the USB cable with the tagged plug and connect it to the GO:MIXER PRO.

Connecting an iPhone or iPad: Use a Lightning-USB cable to connect this device to an iPhone or iPad. The unit's POWER indicator will light when the app starts.

USB Cables Included: Three USB cables are provided for smartphone connection, allowing you to supply power from a connected smartphone to the GO:MIXER PRO.

Note on Power Supply: When power is supplied to the GO:MIXER PRO from a smartphone, the smartphone's battery will be consumed more heavily than usual.

Microphone Connections and Phantom Power

MIC Input: This jack accepts XLR or TRS connectors. It supports phantom power (48V) for condenser microphones.

PLUG-IN MIC Input: This input supports plug-in power for compatible microphones.

Phantom Power:

  • If using a condenser mic requiring external power, set the [PHANTOM POWER] switch to "48V."
  • To supply phantom power to an iPhone or iPad, batteries must be installed in the GO:MIXER PRO. If batteries are not installed, phantom power cannot be supplied even if the switch is set to "48V," and the POWER indicator will blink.
  • For Android smartphones, phantom power can be supplied using either batteries or power from the smartphone.

Guitar and Bass Connections

Connect your guitar or bass to the GUITAR/BASS jack. If a mic and/or guitar are not connected, turn the [GUITAR/BASS] knob and/or [MIC] knob to the minimum setting (fully left) to prevent noise.

Routing through Effect Devices: If you are routing your guitar or bass through an effect device, connect it to the INSTRUMENT jacks (L/MONO, R).

Audio Player and Computer Connections

Connect audio players or computers to the LINE IN 1 and LINE IN 2 jacks using their headphone outputs.

Karaoke Function: Sound from a device connected to the LINE IN 1 jack can be used for karaoke (refer to page 19).

Keyboard Connections

Connect a keyboard to the INSTRUMENT jacks (L/MONO, R).

Monitor Speaker and Headphone Connections

Connect monitor speakers or headphones to the MONITOR OUT jack to listen to the mixed audio.

Adjusting the Volume

Adjust the input knobs so that the PEAK indicator lights briefly when your performance is at its loudest. If the PEAK indicator remains lit, the sound is too loud.

Diagram Description: The GO:MIXER PRO unit is shown with labels pointing to the control knobs: [INSTRUMENT], [PLUG-IN MIC], [MIC], [GUITAR/BASS], and [MONITOR OUT]. The PEAK indicator is also highlighted with a note: "If this stays lit, the sound is too loud." The REC button is also visible.

Note on MONITOR OUT: The [MONITOR OUT] knob adjusts the overall volume that is recorded.

Memo: To adjust the volume of devices connected to LINE IN 1 and LINE IN 2, use the volume controls on those devices.

Recording

You can record audio using your smartphone's apps.

Recording with a Camera App

When ready, use an app such as a video camera on your smartphone to record. A [REC symbol] icon is shown.

Recording with Dedicated Apps

  • Camcorder for GO:MIXER App: This app is available for Android smartphones and allows you to record video.
  • 4XCAMERA App: This app is available for iPhone or iPad and allows you to record video.

Connection Examples

This section provides examples of connecting microphones and instruments. Ensure connections and settings are appropriate for your equipment.

Recording a Mix of Instrumental Performance and Smartphone Music

This setup allows you to record your instrumental performance along with music playback from your smartphone.

Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates connecting multiple sources: INSTRUMENT, MIC, PLUG-IN MIC, GUITAR/BASS, and LINE IN 1/2 to the GO:MIXER PRO. A smartphone is connected via USB. The [LOOP BACK] switch on the unit is shown set to "ON."

Operation: If you want to record video using your camera app or 4XCAMERA while playing back music from your smartphone, turn the [LOOP BACK] switch to "ON." Audio is output to the smartphone as two channels (stereo).

Multitrack Recording with a DAW

This setup is for multitrack recording using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) app on your smartphone.

Diagram Description: Similar to the previous diagram, this shows connections for INSTRUMENT, MIC, PLUG-IN MIC, GUITAR/BASS, and LINE IN 1/2, with a smartphone connected via USB. The [LOOP BACK] switch is shown set to "OFF."

Operation: To use a DAW app for recording, set the [LOOP BACK] switch to the "OFF" position. In this mode, the [MONITOR OUT] knob cannot control the volume of the smartphone connected to the USB port (refer to page 22).

Audio Output: Audio is output to the smartphone as two channels (stereo).

Using a Backing Track for Karaoke (CENTER CANCEL)

The sound from the device connected to LINE IN 1 can be used for karaoke.

Operation: Set the [CENTER CANCEL] switch to the "ON" position.

Note: Depending on the sound, instruments or vocals not in the center might not be canceled completely.

Using Batteries

If you are not supplying power from the smartphone, install batteries in the unit.

Battery Installation Steps:

  1. Turn the battery cover counterclockwise to remove it.
  2. Insert batteries as shown, paying attention to polarity (+ and -).
  3. Turn the battery cover clockwise to attach it.
  4. Set the [BATTERY] switch to the "ON" position.

Important Notes:

  • Do not operate the [BATTERY] switch while a smartphone is connected, as this may destabilize the smartphone's operation.
  • If operating on batteries, the POWER indicator blinks when batteries are low. The power will automatically turn off after approximately one minute. Replace the battery as soon as possible.
  • Handle batteries properly to avoid explosion and fluid leakage. Observe all safety items in the "USING THE UNIT SAFELY" and "IMPORTANT NOTES" leaflets.

Memo:

  • If supplying power from the smartphone, set the [BATTERY] switch to the "OFF" position and use the included USB cable.
  • The smartphone cannot be recharged from this unit.
