Roland GO:MIXER PRO-X: Using with Smartphone Apps

This manual explains how to link the GO:MIXER PRO-X unit with various smartphone applications. The information is based on findings as of March 2021. Please note that linking with specific apps may vary, and methods described here might change due to software updates.

Compatible Smartphone Apps

Note: Some apps and services may not be available in all countries or regions.

If you experience noise when using iOS 13, it might be due to connecting/disconnecting the GO:MIXER PRO-X while the app is running. Restart your smartphone if noise occurs.

Online Lessons Using the ZOOM Cloud Meetings App

Connection: Use the included 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable to connect your Android smartphone to the unit. For iPhone/iPad, use the appropriate adapter (Lightning or USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, sold separately).

Operation: If using the SMARTPHONE IN/OUT jack, operate the unit on battery power.

Note for Android: When using an Android smartphone, the audio is in mono. Start the app after connecting to the GO:MIXER PRO-X.

App Settings:

Using This Unit for Online Lessons via Skype

Connection: This feature does not work via USB. Use the 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable. For iPhone, a Lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required. For iPad with USB Type-C, a USB Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required.

Operation: If using the SMARTPHONE IN/OUT jack, operate the unit on battery power.

FaceTime

Connection: This feature does not work via USB. Use the 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable. For iPhone, a Lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required. For iPad with USB Type-C, a USB Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required.

Operation: If using the SMARTPHONE IN/OUT jack, operate the unit on battery power.

Clubhouse

Connection: Use the 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable when connecting to an iPhone or iPad. For iPhone, a Lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is also required.

Multitrack Recording with Zenbeats

Setup: Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF". Connect your smartphone via USB.

Steps:

  1. Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF".
  2. Connect the GO:MIXER PRO-X and launch Zenbeats.
  3. Tap [New Song].
  4. Tap [X] to close the Drum Editor.
  5. Tap [→] to switch to Timeline View.
  6. Tap [+ Track] to add an audio track.
  7. Tap [>] to view the track information.
  8. Tap [In 1] and select [Channel 1/2] in Audio Input.
  9. Recording begins. To turn off loop recording, touch the loop icon.

Multitrack Recording with GarageBand

Setup: Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF".

Steps:

  1. Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF". Note: This disables volume control via the [HEADPHONE/SMARTPHONE OUT] knob if connected via USB.
  2. While connected to the GO:MIXER PRO-X, select the "AUDIO RECORDER" on GarageBand. If "Audio Device Connected" appears, tap "Cancel".
  3. Tap the audio input icon [?️].
  4. Tap [Channel] and set it to "Stereo".
  5. Set [Monitor] to "Off".

Broadcasting to Participating Friends via Instagram Live

Connection: For live broadcasts to participating Instagram friends, USB connection is unavailable. Use the 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable. For iPhone, a Lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required. For iPad with USB Type-C, a USB Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required.

Operation: If using the SMARTPHONE IN/OUT jack, operate the unit on battery power.

Note: USB connection is available for regular Instagram Live broadcasts that do not require invitations. See "Connecting to Other Apps" (p. 22).

Taobao E Commerce

Connection: This feature does not work via USB. Use the 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable. For iPhone, a Lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required. For iPad with USB Type-C, a USB Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required.

Operation: If using the SMARTPHONE IN/OUT jack, operate the unit on battery power.

Collaborating on nana

Setup: Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF". Connect your smartphone via USB.

Steps:

  1. Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF".

Multitrack Recording by Yourself with 4XCAMERA

Setup: Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF". Connect your smartphone via USB.

Steps:

  1. Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "OFF".

Using 4XCAMERA to Record the Sound from This Unit with Music Playing on Your Smartphone

Setup: Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "ON". Connect your smartphone via USB.

Steps:

  1. Set the [LOOP BACK] switch to "ON".
  2. Tap the camera icon [?].
  3. Tap the music note icon [?].
  4. Select music on your smartphone. Note: Music protected by DRM (digital rights management) cannot be selected.

FILMIC Pro

Connection: Connect your Android smartphone to this unit with a 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable. For iPhone/iPad, use the appropriate adapter.

Operation: If using the SMARTPHONE IN/OUT jack, operate the unit on battery power.

Note for Android: When using an Android smartphone, the audio is in mono. Start the app after connecting to the GO:MIXER PRO-X.

Twitter

Connection: This feature does not work via USB. Use the 3.5 mm TRRS audio cable. For iPhone, a Lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required. For iPad with USB Type-C, a USB Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter is required.

Operation: If using the SMARTPHONE IN/OUT jack, operate the unit on battery power.

Connecting to Other Apps

For the following apps, connect as shown in the diagram (USB connection to smartphone):

(*1) Connect the GO:MIXER PRO-X after starting the live broadcast.

(*2) If your Instagram friends are participating, see "Broadcasting to Participating Friends via Instagram Live" (p. 14).
