Maintaining Your Knife's Sharpness
Regular sharpening is key to keeping your knives in excellent condition. For typical household use, sharpening once a week is recommended. If a knife becomes significantly blunt from prolonged use or neglect, or if its cutting edge is damaged, professional sharpening may be required to restore its sharpness.
Key Features & Tips
- The SKÄRANDE knife sharpener is compatible with all types of knives, irrespective of steel quality.
- It features three distinct slots for coarse (1), medium (2), and fine (3) sharpening.
- For routine maintenance of an already sharp knife, use only the fine sharpening slot (slot 3).
- If the knife's edge has become blunt and needs restoration, it is recommended to use all three sharpening slots sequentially.
How to Use the Knife Sharpener
Prepare the Sharpener: Open the cover by pressing the clip located on the underside of the sharpener. Fill the container with water. Ensure the container remains filled with water throughout the sharpening process, as the water cools the blade and facilitates smooth movement.
Sharpening Process: Place the knife in the first slot (for coarse sharpening). Gently pull the knife back and forth through the slot approximately 15-20 times. Avoid applying excessive pressure to prevent damage to the sharpening wheels. Move the knife to the second slot (for medium sharpening) and repeat the pulling motion 15-20 times. Finally, place the knife in the third slot (for fine sharpening) and repeat the pulling motion 15-20 times to refine the edge. The number of strokes needed may vary depending on the knife's material and condition. If the knife is still not sharp enough, repeat the entire three-step process, starting again with the first slot.
Cleaning: Clean the sharpener by rinsing it under cold running water. After sharpening, always clean the knife itself before use.
