SKÄRANDE Knife Sharpener
Instructions for Use and Maintenance
Maintaining Your Knife's Sharpness
The best way to keep your knife in excellent condition is to sharpen it at regular intervals. For ordinary household use, sharpening once a week is recommended. If a knife has become very blunt due to long use or carelessness, or if the cutting edge has become damaged, professional sharpening may be necessary to restore its edge.
Good to Know
The knife sharpener is designed for use with all knives, regardless of steel quality. It features three different slots for fine, medium, or coarse sharpening.
- Fine Sharpening (Slot 3): Use this slot to maintain an edge that is already sharp.
- Medium/Coarse Sharpening (Slots 1 & 2): If the edge has become blunt and needs to be restored, it is recommended to use all three steps, starting with the coarser slots and finishing with the fine slot.
How to Use the Knife Sharpener
Follow these steps for effective knife sharpening:
- Prepare the Sharpener: Open the cover by pushing the clip located underneath the knife sharpener. Fill the container with water. The container must be kept filled with water whenever the sharpener is in use. Water cools the knife blade and helps it glide smoothly through the slots.
- Step 1: Coarse/Medium Sharpening: Place the knife in the first slot (Slot 1). Gently pull the knife back and forth. Avoid applying excessive pressure, as this can damage the sharpening wheels.
- Step 2: Medium/Coarse Sharpening: Move the knife to the second slot (Slot 2) and repeat the procedure.
- Step 3: Fine Sharpening: Finally, place the knife in the third slot (Slot 3) to fine-tune the edge.
- Repeat Strokes: Pull the knife through each slot approximately 15-20 times. The number of strokes needed will vary depending on the material and condition of the knife.
- If Still Not Sharp: If the knife is still not sharp enough after completing all three steps, start over from the first slot and repeat all three steps.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean the sharpener by rinsing it under cold water. After sharpening, the knife must be cleaned before use.
