Basic Measurements

DC Voltage Measurement

Connect the red probe to the VΩmA jack and the black probe to the COM jack. Set the dial to the appropriate DC voltage range (V⎓). Connect the probes across the component to be measured.

Example: Measuring 220V AC results in 220.

AC Voltage Measurement

Connect the red probe to the VΩmA jack and the black probe to the COM jack. Set the dial to the appropriate AC voltage range (V~). Connect the probes across the component to be measured.

Example: Measuring 12.46V AC results in 12.46.

DC Current Measurement

Connect the red probe to the 10A or mA jack (depending on expected current) and the black probe to the COM jack. Set the dial to the appropriate DC current range (A⎓). Break the circuit and connect the multimeter in series.

Example: Measuring 2.53A DC results in 2.53.

Resistance Measurement

Connect the red probe to the VΩmA jack and the black probe to the COM jack. Set the dial to the appropriate resistance range (Ω). Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Connect the probes across the resistor.

Example: Measuring 500Ω results in 500.

Continuity Test

Connect the red probe to the VΩmA jack and the black probe to the COM jack. Set the dial to the continuity test symbol (often looks like a sound wave or diode symbol). Touch the probes to the component. A beep indicates continuity.

Example: Measuring a resistance of less than 50Ω results in 22.

Battery Test

Connect the red probe to the VΩmA jack and the black probe to the COM jack. Set the dial to the appropriate battery test voltage (e.g., 1.5V or 9V). Connect the probes to the battery terminals.

Example: Measuring a 9V battery results in 9.
