Important Safety Precautions

Warning: Special attention must be paid when using this test and measurement instrument, as improper usage can cause electric shock and damage the equipment.

  • Use probes, test leads, and adapters with the proper measurement category (CAT), voltage, and amperage ratings for the measurement.
  • Do not use or store the device in environments with explosive gas, vapor, or under high temperature and humidity.
  • When handling test probes and crocodile clips, keep fingers behind the physical guard.
  • Examine measuring test leads before use. Replace any test lead with deteriorated insulation (even partially) with proper functional test leads.
  • Connect the common (COM) test lead before the live test lead, and remove the live test lead before the common test lead.
  • Before measuring current, ensure the instrument has available fuses and disconnect the power supply to the circuit being tested.
  • Remove batteries if the device is not used for an extended period or if stored in temperatures above 45°C to prevent battery leakage and damage.

1. Battery Replacement

Description: This section illustrates how to replace the multimeter's batteries.

  1. Unscrew the back cover of the multimeter.
  2. Remove the old batteries.
  3. Insert new batteries, observing correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Reattach the back cover securely.

2. AC Voltage (V~) Measurement

Description: Steps to measure AC voltage.

  1. Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the V/Ω/TEMP terminal.
  2. Turn the dial to the V~ (AC Voltage) range.
  3. Press the FUNC button to select AC voltage if multiple options are available for the dial setting.
  4. Connect the probes to the circuit under test.
  5. Read the AC voltage value displayed on the screen (e.g., 230 V).

3. DC Voltage (V--) Measurement

Description: Steps to measure DC voltage.

  1. Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the V/Ω/TEMP terminal.
  2. Turn the dial to the V-- (DC Voltage) range.
  3. Press the FUNC button to select DC voltage if multiple options are available for the dial setting.
  4. Connect the probes to the circuit under test.
  5. Read the DC voltage value displayed on the screen.

4. AC Current (A~) Measurement

Description: Steps to measure AC current.

  1. Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the mA/µA or 10A terminal, depending on the expected current range.
  2. Turn the dial to the A~ (AC Current) range.
  3. Press the FUNC button to select AC current if multiple options are available.
  4. Connect the probes in series with the circuit.
  5. Read the AC current value displayed on the screen (e.g., 2.47 A).

5. DC Current (A--) Measurement

Description: Steps to measure DC current.

  1. Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the mA/µA or 10A terminal, depending on the expected current range.
  2. Turn the dial to the A-- (DC Current) range.
  3. Press the FUNC button to select DC current if multiple options are available.
  4. Connect the probes in series with the circuit.
  5. Read the DC current value displayed on the screen.

6. Temperature (°C/°F) Measurement

Description: Steps to measure temperature.

  1. Connect the temperature probe to the TEMP and COM terminals.
  2. Turn the dial to the °C/°F range.
  3. Press the FUNC button to select °C or °F.
  4. Place the probe tip on the object to measure its temperature.
  5. Read the temperature value displayed on the screen (e.g., 27 °C).

7. Resistance (Ω) and Continuity Measurement

Description: Steps to measure resistance and check for continuity.

  1. Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the V/Ω/TEMP terminal.
  2. Turn the dial to the Ω (Resistance) or continuity range.
  3. Press the FUNC button to select resistance or continuity mode. A beep sound indicates continuity.
  4. Connect the probes across the component or circuit.
  5. Read the resistance value displayed on the screen (e.g., 0.6 Ω, 32 Ω). For continuity, a value below 50 Ω may trigger a beep.

8. Wireless Link Function

Description: Using the multimeter's wireless connectivity feature.

  1. Enable the Link function on the MS8238H multimeter.
  2. Use the MGL Link mobile application on a compatible smartphone or tablet.
