Rear View Backup Camera Installation
Read all installation instructions carefully before installing. Improper installation voids the manufacturer's warranty. These instructions are guidelines; consult an experienced technician if uncomfortable. Read the safety information provided in this user manual before using or installing the Backup Camera System.
WARNING: Failure to read and follow these warnings and instructions may result in serious injury or property damage. Exercise utmost care.
- The Digital Backup Camera is an aid for detecting hazardous driving conditions and objects. Always drive safely and properly; the camera is not a substitute for safe driving practices.
- Never back up solely by looking at the monitor screen. Always check behind and around the vehicle as you normally would. Back up slowly and with caution.
- Do not depend entirely on the Backup Camera. The image may differ from actual conditions. Wide-angle lenses distort distance perception. Use the camera as an aid and follow intended driving practices.
- The camera's low lux lighting feature is an aid. Always use your own eyes to confirm surroundings. The image may not be well lit or entirely visible. Proceed with caution and double-check.
- The camera's displayed area is limited. It does not show objects close to or below the bumper, underneath the vehicle, or out of view. The view can change with vehicle orientation or road conditions.
- Ensure the camera is functioning properly, positioned, and securely mounted every time you operate your vehicle.
- Ensure your trunk or hatch operates correctly before and after installation.
- Clean around the camera with caution. Avoid excess water exposure, especially with spraying or power washers.
- Keep the camera clean and unobstructed from debris.
- Follow all traffic laws and motor vehicle regulations.
- Consult local laws and regulations for installation or use restrictions.
- A Backup Camera System does not eliminate blind spots. Always drive with caution and follow traffic laws.
System Installation and Wiring
Note: Camera system installation on diesel vehicles may require slightly different wiring.
Caution: Connecting to other electrical systems can damage your vehicle. Contact the manufacturer if unsure of your vehicle's system type. Refer to the model's power requirements before connection and installation.
QUICK INSTALLATION:
This rearview backup camera system includes camera and wiring. The camera is preferably mounted at the rear of the vehicle (above the license plate). The kit includes necessary wiring and connectors for typical connections; additional accessories may be needed for secure and operational performance.
Camera Connection:
Connect the camera using the included DC 12V power cable. Connect the positive 12V wire to the vehicle's reverse tail light and the black wire to ground. This cable supplies power directly to the camera.
Next, run the included yellow RCA video connector cable from the camera's jack to the display monitor's yellow video connector. The RCA cable retrieves the video signal when activated (vehicle in reverse).
Installation Transcript:
- Locate the reverse taillight wiring behind the vehicle's reverse light. You may need to remove an interior panel or cover. Connect the included 12V DC power cable to the reverse light:
- Connect the power cable's Red wire to the vehicle's reverse light positive wire.
- Connect the power cable's Black wire to the vehicle's reverse light negative wire.
- Connect the camera to this reverse light connection, then mount the camera in the desired location.
- Run the RCA video cable from the camera to your compatible video display monitor.
Note: Run cables unobtrusively. Secure cables and wiring to prevent vibration damage. Ensure wires are safely and securely connected with proper isolation.
Additional Notes:
- Determine the best camera location (preferably above the license plate).
- Leave some slack in connection cables for minor camera adjustments.
- After installation, test the camera by placing the vehicle in reverse. A picture should appear in the monitor.
Angle Adjustable Camera Lens
- The camera housing has 2 screws that lock the lens angle. Loosen these screws to adjust the angle, then tighten securely.
- Be sure not to overtighten the screws.
Diagram Description: Shows the camera lens with screws being loosened and adjusted. An illustration shows the camera connected via RCA video and power cables to a display monitor and the vehicle's reverse lights.
