Installation Steps
Diagram Description (Page 2): The diagram shows the components for installing the Barrytown 5606 lighting fixture. It illustrates how the mounting plate attaches to the junction box, how the nipple, collar loop, and hex nut are assembled and adjusted. It depicts the chain being fed through the canopy and screw collar, then attached to the collar loop. The safety cable attachment is shown. Finally, it illustrates connecting the wires (ground, neutral, hot) using wire nuts and tape, pushing wires into the box, securing the canopy, installing the bulb, and attaching the glass with a ball nut. Key parts are labeled with letters A through P.
- Attach the MOUNTING PLATE (A) onto the junction box using the MOUNTING SCREWS (B). This fixture is designed to be mounted on a heavy-duty round or octagon junction box rated for a minimum 90lbs. The junction box must be securely mounted to the structure of the building.
- Remove the SCREW COLLAR (J) from the COLLAR LOOP (F). Fully thread the NIPPLE (E) onto the COLLAR LOOP (F). Thread the HEX NUT (C) onto the NIPPLE (E) then thread the NIPPLE (E) onto the MOUNTING PLATE (A). Adjust the NIPPLE (E) so that the threads of the COLLAR LOOP (F) extends 1/4" beyond the CANOPY (H). Secure using HEX NUT (C).
- Open the end link of the CHAIN (I) and attach to the FIXTURE ASSEMBLY (K) at the desired height. Slide the SCREW COLLAR (J) and the CANOPY (H) onto the CHAIN (I). Open the link on the other end of the CHAIN (I) then attach unto the COLLAR LOOP (F). Feed the wires through the CHAIN (I), SCREW COLLAR (J), CANOPY (H), COLLAR LOOP (F) & NIPPLE (E) on MOUNTING PLATE (A).
- Attach the SAFETY CABLE (O) to the building structure or brace using CABLE CLIP (P).
- Cut off excess wires, and strip the insulation off the end of the leads.
- Attach the Ground wire (GREEN) to the ground inside the junction box (Generally green or bare copper wire) or the GROUND SCREW (D) on the MOUNTING PLATE (A). NEVER CONNECT GROUND WIRE TO "HOT" WIRE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
- Connect the fixture's SPT Neutral (SPT WIRE WITH NO WRITINGS) wire lead to the neutral (Generally white) wire in the outlet box. Fasten the wires together with an approved fastener (WIRE NUT) (G). Starting 1" below the fastener, tightly wrap the connection with electrical tape so that the connections seal the end of the fastener. MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO EXPOSED WIRE STRANDS THAT COULD CAUSE A DANGEROUS SHORT CIRCUIT.
- Connect the fixture's SPT hot (SPT WITH WRITINGS) wire lead to the hot (Generally black) wire in the junction box. Fasten the joined wires same as previous step. NEVER REVERSE HOT AND NEUTRAL WIRES. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
- Push the wires back into the junction box. Lift up the CANOPY (H) up to the ceiling, and screw the SCREW COLLAR (J) onto the COLLAR LOOP (F).
- Screw the BULB (L) up into the SOCKET of the FIXTURE ASSEMBLY (K). THIS FIXTURE IS RATED FOR 10 WATT TYPE B LAMP. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED WATTAGE.
- Attach the GLASS (N) onto the FIXTURE ASSEMBLY (K) then secure using BALL NUT (M). (SEE GLASS SCHEDULE PAGE)
- Restore power to the outlet at the breaker or fuse box.
