Preparations
If you are installing the Roof with a Rough Country Rear Cab Panel (part 98162032A), you will use the provided Rear Panel Adapter.
If the UTV has an installed roof, this must be removed prior to installing the Rough Country Roof.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Prepare the Roof
Place the Roof upside-down on a flat, clean surface. Use a towel or foam to protect the roof's surface. The Rear Panel Adapter will be installed along the rear edge of the Roof, with its taped surface facing the inside rear of the Roof.
Visual: The black UTV roof is placed upside down on a workbench, with a red towel underneath. The Rear Panel Adapter is being positioned along the rear edge.
Step 2: Align Rear Panel Adapter
Align the ends of the Rear Panel Adapter with the square holes located in each rear corner of the Roof. The end of the Adapter should extend approximately 3/4 inch past the edges of these holes.
Visual: A measuring tape indicates a 3/4 inch extension. The Rear Panel Adapter is being positioned at the rear corner of the roof.
Step 3: Position Adapter Flush
Maintaining the 3/4 inch distance at either end, position the Adapter so that its flat feature is flush with the trim edge of the Roof, starting about 3 inches in from the edge. Note: The ends of the Adapter may flare up from the roof edge, but the rest of the part should be flush with the trim edge.
Visual: A hand presses the Rear Panel Adapter onto the roof's edge, ensuring it is flush with the trim, while maintaining the 3/4 inch gap at the ends.
Step 4: Apply Adapter Tape
While maintaining the flush position, peel the red tape leaders from the adhesive in 3-inch increments, pressing the parts together as you go. Press firmly at the taped areas for 30 seconds to ensure full adhesion. The tape cures fully after 24 hours at 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
Visual: Red tape backing is being peeled off the Rear Panel Adapter while a hand presses it firmly against the roof.
Step 5: Drill Mounting Holes
Using a drill with a 1/4 inch bit, use the holes in the Rear Panel Adapter as a guide to drill holes into the Roof in 4 places.
Visual: A drill with a 1/4 inch bit is shown drilling through one of the holes in the Rear Panel Adapter into the roof material.
Step 6: Prepare Screw and Washer
Place a supplied 6mm Flat Washer over a supplied 6mm-1.0 x 20mm Screw.
Visual: A gloved hand holds a 6mm flat washer and a 6mm screw, preparing to insert them.
Step 7: Insert Screw/Washer Combo
Place the screw and washer assembly through each hole in the Roof and the Rear Panel Adapter.
Visual: The screw and washer assembly is being inserted through a pre-drilled hole in the roof and the Rear Panel Adapter.
Step 8: Identify Screw Locations
These are the locations on the underside of the roof where the 6mm-1.0 x 20mm Screws will pass through the Rear Panel Adapter.
Visual: Yellow arrows point to four specific locations on the underside of the roof where the screws will pass through the adapter.
Step 9: Secure with Washer and Nut
From the inside of the Roof, slide another supplied 6mm Washer onto the back of the screw. Install a supplied 6mm-1.0 Nylock Nut onto the back of each Screw. Tighten using a 4mm hex key on the screw side and a 10mm socket over the nut.
Visual: From the inside of the roof, a second washer is placed on the screw, followed by a Nylock nut. A 4mm hex key holds the screw, and a 10mm socket tightens the nut.
Step 10: Position Roof on UTV Frame
Carefully slide the Roof assembly over the top of the UTV frame.
Visual: The entire roof assembly is being lifted and positioned over the frame of a Can-Am Defender UTV.
Step 11: Align Roof to Frame Features
At the rear of the UTV frame, align the mounting holes in the Roof with the corresponding features (bosses) shown on the frame, one on either side.
Visual: A hand points to a mounting boss/feature on the UTV frame at the rear. The roof is being aligned with these features.
Step 12: Install Brackets and Bolts (Initial)
Place a supplied Bracket over each frame feature, aligning its holes with the factory holes in the frame. Install 2 supplied 13mm Hex Bolts through the holes in the Bracket and into the factory holes in the frame (on both sides). If the Rear Cab Panel is to be installed, DO NOT TIGHTEN these bolts yet. Otherwise, tighten these Bolts using a 13mm socket.
Visual: A black bracket is placed over the mounting boss on the UTV frame. Two 13mm hex bolts are shown being inserted through the bracket and into the frame.
Step 13: Prepare Screw and Washer (Again)
Place a supplied 6mm Flat Washer over a supplied 6mm-1.0 x 20mm Screw.
Visual: Similar to Step 6, a hand holds a 6mm washer and a 6mm screw.
Step 14: Insert Screw/Washer into Frame
Place the screw and washer assembly through each hole in the Roof and the UTV frame as indicated in Step 15.
Visual: The screw and washer assembly is being inserted through holes in the roof and the UTV frame.
Step 15: Identify Frame Screw Locations
These are the locations on the underside of the Roof and UTV frame where the 6mm-1.0 x 20mm Screws will be installed.
Visual: Yellow arrows point to four locations on the underside of the roof, indicating where screws will be installed into the UTV frame.
Step 16: Secure with Washer and Nut (Frame)
From the inside of the cab, slide another supplied 6mm Washer onto the back of the screw. Install a supplied 6mm-1.0 Nylock Nut onto the back of each Screw. Tighten using a 4mm hex key on the screw side and a 10mm socket over the nut. If you are not installing the Rear Cab Panel, Roof installation is complete at this point!
Visual: From inside the UTV cab, a second washer and a Nylock nut are installed onto the screw. A hex key and socket are used for tightening.
Step 17: Prepare for Rear Cab Panel Installation
Remove the Hex Bolts and Brackets that were installed in Step 12. Lift the Roof slightly off of the frame bosses to provide access and clearance for installing the Rear Cab Panel. Install the Rear Cab Panel according to its specific instructions (part number 92198162032A).
Visual: Brackets and bolts are being removed. The roof is being lifted to allow access for the Rear Cab Panel.
Step 18: Re-seat Roof with Rear Cab Panel
Once the Rear Cab Panel is installed, push the Roof back down onto the frame boss features, ensuring the rear edge of the Roof nests over the top edge of the Rear Cab Panel.
Visual: The UTV roof is being lowered back onto the frame's mounting bosses, overlapping the top edge of the Rear Cab Panel.
Step 19: Reinstall Brackets and Final Tighten
Replace the Brackets over the frame boss features, aligning their holes with the factory holes in the frame. Reinstall the 2 supplied 13mm Hex Bolts through the holes in the Bracket and into the frame (on both sides). Tighten these bolts securely with a 13mm socket.
Visual: Brackets are being reattached over the frame bosses. 13mm hex bolts are inserted and tightened.
Step 20: Installation Complete
The Roof installation is now complete.
Visual: The fully installed black UTV roof is shown from the exterior of the vehicle.
