Audio Authority 9A60A User Manual

Model: 9A60A

Product: VGA to Component Video Converter

Product Overview

This document is the user manual for the Audio Authority Model 9A60A, a VGA to Component Video Converter. It is designed to adapt a VGA-type RGBHV video signal to a YPbPr Component Video signal for use with High Definition Television (HDTV) monitors.

The 9A60A acts as a transcoder, performing a direct conversion from one signal type to another. It is not a format converter, scaler, or video processor, meaning it passes horizontal and vertical synchronization timings and pixel content from the source to the output without modification. For example, to display a 1080i YPbPr image, the source must provide a 1080i RGBHV signal.

Commonly accepted NTSC/ATSC broadcast resolutions in the United States include 640x480 @ 60Hz, 1280x720 @ 60Hz, and 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.

Device Description

The device is a compact, rectangular unit with a black casing. On the front panel, there is a 15-pin VGA input connector labeled 'VGA INPUT (RGBHV)' and a DC power input jack labeled '12V DC POWER'. The top panel features the 'Audio Authority' logo and the model name 'Model 9A60A' printed as 'High Definition VGA to Component Video Converter'. The output connectors are labeled 'Pr', 'Pb', and 'Y' on the rear or side panel, indicating component video outputs. The device is shown with a connection diagram indicating it converts VGA input to YPbPr output. It is marked 'Made in the USA' and displays a phone number (800-322-8346) and website (www.audioauthority.com).

Features

  • High bandwidth circuitry
  • Accepts RGB signals including computer VGA and RGBHV
  • Output sync is Bi-level sync

  3. Configure your source equipment to output an appropriate television broadcast resolution for your region.

Connection Diagram

A typical setup involves connecting a PC's VGA output via a VGA cable to the 9A60A's input. The 9A60A's YPbPr outputs are then connected via RCA patch cords to the corresponding inputs on a Video Display.

Supported Resolutions

Resolution Type Pixel Resolution Scan Type
SDTV (Standard Definition)640x480 @ 60Hzinterlaced
480p (DVD Resolution)640x480 @ 60Hzprogressive scan
720p (High Definition)1280x720 @ 60Hzprogressive scan
1080i (High Definition)1920x1080i @ 60Hzinterlaced
1080p (High Definition)1920x1080p @ 60Hzprogressive scan

Note: Most high definition televisions that accept progressive video typically have a maximum vertical refresh rate of 60Hz. Avoid sending higher rates from your PC.

If your video driver does not support required resolutions, third-party software like PowerStrip (Windows, www.entechtaiwan.com) or DisplayConfigX (Mac, www.3dexpress.de) may be available for download. If sources do not allow output resolution changes, consider Audio Authority's video scaling products (e.g., Model 1366).

[Warning] Caution: Do not operate the monitor with an unstable picture, as this may damage the display equipment.
