Front and Rear Panel Description
Front Panel
The front panel features input connectors and a mode switch. On the left, labeled 'DIGITAL AUDIO', are connectors for Coaxial Digital Audio, Optical, and stereo Left (L) and Right (R) analog audio. Adjacent to this, labeled 'ANALOG AUDIO', are connectors for Component Video (Y, Pb, Pr) and stereo Left (L) and Right (R) analog audio. A note indicates that the 'L' and 'R' analog audio jacks can be used for Horizontal (H) and Vertical (V) sync signals when the device is in RGB mode. A 'MODE SWITCH' is present, labeled 'INPUT', with options for RGB/YPbPr. The section is collectively referred to as 'INPUT JACKS'.
Rear Panel
The rear panel contains four identical output sections, labeled 1 through 4. Each output section provides connections for: Coaxial Digital Audio, Optical, stereo Left (L) and Right (R) analog audio, and Component Video (Y, Pb, Pr). Labels clarify that these outputs support 'COMPONENT VIDEO (Y, Pb, AND Pr)' or 'RGB* (GREEN, BLUE, AND RED)'. An asterisk note reiterates that in RGB mode, H and V sync signals must be connected to the analog Left and Right audio jacks. The rear panel also includes a 'POWER CONNECTION' for a 12V DC input and a 'POWER INDICATOR' LED.
4.0 Installation
Connect the input port to a source of Component or RGB video using high-quality patch cables. Connect each of the four outputs to its destination television using coaxial cable suitable for baseband video, such as RG-59 with a solid copper center conductor. Do not use RG-6 or steel-core cable. Plug the included 12 volt DC power supply into the Model 1185ci Power jack and plug the wall adapter into an AC outlet.
4.1 Video Applications
The 1185ci may be used for either YPbPr or RGBHV video. When using component video, set the mode switch to YPbPr and connect audio and video cables as indicated on the panel legends. In RGB applications, set the switch accordingly and connect the red green and blue video cables according to the jack color code, and connect the horizontal and vertical sync to the wideband L and R audio jacks. As a result, only digital audio pathways are available when using RGB mode.
5.0 Troubleshooting
- Ground loops often cause disturbances such as hum in the audio channels, rolling bars in the picture, or jitter in RGBHV video. In the event a ground loop interferes with downstream television performance, add an Audio Authority Model 1184 Hum Eliminator at each television that exhibits the symptoms.
- Make certain that the Distribution Amplifier is receiving power by looking at the power LED. If the DA is not receiving power, check the AC outlet or suspect the power supply.
- In RGB applications, be sure all five video cables are connected. RGB requires separate cables to pass H and V (horizontal and vertical sync) in addition to the cables for red, green, and blue. Connect the H and V cables to the R and L audio jacks.
