Part 2 - DVR Camera and Power Connections
This section illustrates the physical connections required for the system.
Connection Steps:
- Connect both ends of the camera cables to the cameras.
- Connect the other end of the camera cables to the DVR.
- Connect the 4-way splitter cables to the cameras.
- Connect the 4-way splitter to its power supply.
- Connect the DVR power supply to the DVR.
- Connect both power supplies to a surge protector.
- Connect the surge protector to an electrical outlet.
Surge Protector Recommendation: It is STRONGLY recommended to use a surge protector that is UL-1449 rated. Look for a clamping voltage of 330V or lower, a Joule rating of at least 400, and a response time of 10 nanoseconds or less.

Part 3 - DVR Controls: Front Panel

Part 4 - Accessing the DVR Menus
After the system boots up, it enters multiple window mode. Click 'Enter' or left-click the mouse anywhere on the screen to bring up the login interface (Pic 4.1). The default admin password is 'admin'. This leads to the Main Menu screen (Pic 4.2), which has six icons: Search, Info, Setting, Advanced, Backup, and Shutdown.
- Search: Find and playback files from the hard drive.
- Info: Access hard drive information, system log, version, and online users.
- Setting: Configure General settings (time, language, overwrite, file size, display format), Encode settings (compression, frame rate, bit rate, audio, sub stream), Schedule setup, RS232 setup, Network setup, Alarm setup, motion detection setup, PTZ setup, Display setup, and Load Default setup.
- Advanced: Manage hard drive, alarm output, manual recording, account setup, auto maintenance, and TV output.
- Backup: Backup files from the hard drive.
- Shutdown: Safely shut down the system.
Pic 4.1 shows the SYSTEM LOGIN screen with fields for User Name and Password, and a numeric keypad. Pic 4.2 displays the MAIN MENU with icons for Search, Info, Setting, Advanced, Backup, and Shutdown.
Part 5 - Setting up DVR to Record
There are three modes for recording:
- Manual Recording
- Scheduled Recording
- Motion Recording
1. Manual Recording
Access the Manual Record menu by right-clicking the screen or navigating through the Main Menu. Pic 5.1 and PIC 5.2 show the MANUAL RECORD screen. You can click 'All' on the manual line to start recording on all channels, or select specific cameras. To stop recording, select 'All' on the stop line or choose individual cameras.
2. Scheduled Recording
To record on a schedule, go to Main Menu > Manual Record and select the cameras on the 'Schedule' line. Then, go to Main Menu > Settings > Schedule. This brings up the screen shown in Pic 5.3. You can set up schedules for all channels or different times for different cameras, and for all days or different days. Mixed schedules can be created, combining continuous recording with motion detection or alarm detection during specific times. Pic 5.4 shows an example of a mixed schedule.
3. Motion Detection Recording
To set up motion detection recording, follow these steps:
- Go to Main Menu > Advanced > Manual Record (Pic 5.5). Select 'All' or specific cameras on the 'Schedule' line for motion recording.
- Go to Main Menu > Setting > Schedule (Pic 5.6) to set the schedule for when cameras should record on motion.
- Go to Main Menu > Setting > Detect. Select 'Motion Detect' as the Event Type, choose your Channel (or 'All'), and enable the option.
- Under 'Region', click 'Select' to define the area of the camera display sensitive to motion (Pic 5.8). The red area is sensitive, black is not.
- Click the 'Fn' button on the remote control to adjust mouse sensitivity while moving the cursor.
- Set the sensitivity level from 1 to 6 (6 being most sensitive).
- Click 'Save' on the Detect screen (Pic 5.7) to save the settings.
Pic 5.8 illustrates the sensitive area setup, where the green box shows the cursor location, the red area is sensitive to motion, and the black area is not.
Part 6 - Playing Back Files
Click the 'Search' option in the Main Menu to display the screen shown in Pic 6.1. The table below lists the functions of the buttons on the screen:
- Play
- Reverse

- Slow Play

- Next Frame
- Volume
- Previous File
- Next Channel
- Next File
- Previous Channel
- Search
- Backup
Clicking the [blue arrow] icon (in Pic 6.1) opens a schedule window (Pic 6.2) showing dates with available video files. Highlighted dates on the calendar indicate video files are available. You can double-click a day to view the file list. Files can be played back in 4-screen or 8-screen mode by selecting the screen option button.
Pic 6.1 shows the playback search interface with a file list and controls. Pic 6.2 displays a calendar view highlighting days with recorded video.
Part 7 - Setting up the DVR to Backup Files
The DVR supports backing up to USB flash drives, hard drives, burners, and SD cards.
- Plug in the USB device.
- Go to Main Menu and click on the 'Backup' option to display the screen in Pic 7.1.
- Select your device from the list and click the 'Backup' button.
- The Backup window (Pic 7.2) opens. Select the channel you want to back up, enter the start and end times, and click 'Add'.
- The available files will be displayed in the lower box. Check the files you want to back up.
- The bottom of the window shows the space required and remaining space on the backup media.
- Click the 'Backup' button. The window will display a progress bar, and the 'Backup' button will change to 'Stop' (Pic 7.3) if you wish to terminate the process.
Once files are backed up, they can be played using the file player program on the CD that comes with the DVR. This program can also convert files into AVI format for playback on standard video players.
Pic 7.1 shows the BACKUP screen listing available storage devices. Pic 7.2 displays the Backup window for selecting files. Pic 7.3 shows the backup progress bar.
