Remote Monitoring Using QC View for iOS

Setup and Users Guide for Mobile Remote Monitoring QC Series Security DVRs on the iPhone and iPad

Introduction

The QC View software enables remote monitoring of your security system using a mobile device connected via wireless or 3G/4G networks. Please note that this application does not allow for changes to the DVR's settings; these must be configured either directly on the DVR or through remote monitoring via a computer.

To monitor your system using an iPhone or iPad, you need to install either the "Q-See QC View" app for smartphones or the "Q-See QC View HD" app for tablets. Both applications are available for free on the Apple AppStore by searching for "Q-See." Installation follows the standard procedure for AppStore applications.

Both versions offer identical functionality. The HD version, specifically for iPads, provides the capability to view up to 16 cameras simultaneously and offers enhanced viewing resolution, leveraging the tablet's larger, higher-resolution screen.

Getting Started: Initial Setup

  1. Step 1: Launch QC View
Tap the QC View icon on your app menu to launch the application.
  2. Step 2: Access Main Menu
Upon launching, the program displays its main menu. To view your DVR, you must add it using the "Device Manager" option.
  3. Step 3: Utilize Demonstration System
A connection to a demonstration system is pre-loaded within the application. This can be removed at any time and provides an easy way to familiarize yourself with controlling your DVR before configuring your own system.
  4. Step 4: Add Your DVR
Click the "Add" button to begin the process of configuring QC View to access your DVR.

Configuring DVR Access

Step 5: Enter DVR Details
You will need to provide specific details to access your DVR. It is recommended to set up two connection methods: one for when you are on the same local network (e.g., within the same building) and another for when you are away and accessing via the Internet IP address.

Operation and Features

Once a device is selected, you can perform most operations via your mobile device, similar to using the DVR directly or computer-based remote monitoring options. The primary limitations are that you cannot reconfigure the DVR using QC View, and you can only record still images from cameras to your mobile device, not video.

The Main menu provides access to all QC View functions. Pressing the device's "Return" button (either on-screen or on a physical keypad) from any window will navigate you back to this menu.

Initially, you must enable each camera channel's display from the Device List. Access this list by tapping its icon on the right side of the screen or by double-tapping an empty video display area. You can also create groups of cameras using the Favorites option. Rearrange camera views by dragging them to your preferred positions on the screen. Double-tapping a channel will switch it to a single-screen view; double-tapping again will return to the multi-channel display.

The camera feed highlighted with a green border is the "active" channel. Any actions performed using the buttons on the left side of the screen will affect this active channel.

Real-time Monitor: This is the primary window for viewing live feeds from your cameras.

Playback and Event Logging

Playback: Access video files recorded on your DVR. Click on a channel within the Device Manager to select which camera's recordings you wish to view. You will then need to specify the date and the start and end times to search for the desired video segment (as shown in Picture 8).

The playback controls are intuitive. You can view multiple cameras simultaneously. Use the Snapshot icon at the bottom of the screen to capture still images, which will be saved to your device's Photos folder.

[Image Description: Picture 8 displays the interface for selecting the date and time range for video playback, including a calendar view and time input fields.]

Event List: If you configure "Push Config" (described below) to receive notifications for events such as motion detection, camera masking (video blind), or a local alarm triggered at the DVR, QC View will maintain a log of these events. This list can be reviewed within the application.

Advanced Configuration

Channel Config: This feature allows you to adjust the configuration of each video channel to optimize performance on your iPad or iPhone. These settings are specific to the mobile application and do not alter the configurations set on the DVR itself. They are useful for compensating for conditions like poor network connectivity.

[Image Description: Picture 9 shows the Channel Configuration screen, offering settings for Channel, Name, Video (ON/OFF), Audio (ON/OFF), Resolution, Frame rate, Bit Rate Type, and Bit Rate.]

Push Config: This window enables you to select which cameras trigger alerts based on events like motion detection, camera masking, or local alarms at the DVR. When Push notifications are activated, you will receive alerts on your mobile device even when the QC View application is not actively running. Tapping on an alert can directly take you to the video playback of the incident that triggered it.

[Image Description: Picture 10 displays the Push Configuration screen, allowing users to set alert periods and choose which cameras trigger notifications for Video motion, Video Blind, or Local alarm events.]

Favorites: You can create and manage groups of channels that you wish to view together. These custom groups can then be easily selected from the Device Manager list.

Local Config: This section is for configuring PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras connected to your DVR. You can control camera movement using a slider for rotational speed, directional controls, or by dragging your finger directly on the camera's video feed. Zoom functionality is also available via on-screen controls or finger gestures.
