4. Introduction

The MPAGE4 console is a desktop real-time voice announcement ("paging") console, compatible with the Ecler DAM614 audio matrix. The control buttons, LED indicators, and gooseneck microphone allow selection of destination zones for messages, reception of voice messages, and their real-time broadcast to the destination zones.

The main features of the MPAGE4 console are:

  • 4 zone selection buttons (ZONE 1 to ZONE 4) (3)
  • 1 button for selecting all 4 zones simultaneously (ALL) (4)
  • 1 button for activating voice messages (PAGE) (1)
  • 6 LED status indicators (one per button)
  • Gooseneck microphone (5)
  • Configurable chime melody (6)
  • RJ-45 connector for connection via standard CAT5 cable, to the PAGER port of the DAM614 (7)

5. Installation and Connection

The installation of an MPAGE4 unit must follow these steps:

  1. Install the cabling using a standard CAT5 cable between the BASE connector of the MPAGE4 console (7) and the PAGER connector on the rear panel of the DAM614 unit.

RJ-45 Connector Wiring

PinConnectionColorFunction
1Pin 1White/OrangeMIC+
2Pin 2OrangeMIC-
3Pin 3White/GreenGND
4Pin 4BlueVCC (+10 V)
5Pin 5White/BlueZONE 1
6Pin 6GreenZONE 2
7Pin 7White/BrownZONE 3
8Pin 8BrownZONE 4

This cable carries both the destination zone selection control signals and the audio signal from the gooseneck microphone, as well as the chime melody if activated. The phantom power required by the MPAGE4 unit for operation is also supplied from the DAM614 unit via the same cable.

The MPAGE4 unit features a CHIME (6) micro-switch on its rear panel. This allows activating or deactivating the chime melody (both switches OFF), or selecting one of three chime melodies by setting the switches to ON-OFF, OFF-ON, or ON-ON. Position ON corresponds to the micro-switch being in the down position.

Level adjustments are located under the unit's cover, with two potentiometers:

  • MIC (9): adjusts the microphone signal gain.
  • CHIME (8): adjusts the chime melody signal level (0-100%).

The console's microphone (5) is a cardioid electret type, mounted on a flexible, non-detachable arm, and comes with a foam "anti-plosive" windscreen.

The audio output is balanced and transmitted via pins 1, 2, and 3 of the RJ-45 connector on the unit's rear panel. Reception occurs at the DAM614 unit.

6. Operation

Once the MPAGE4 unit is connected to the DAM614 unit, messages are sent as follows:

  1. Select destination zones by pressing:
    • The desired ZONE buttons (ZONE 1 to ZONE 4) (3). Their LED indicators remain lit as long as the zone is selected.
    • Or the ALL button (4) to select all 4 zones simultaneously. Its LED indicator remains lit as long as ALL selection is active.
These are all latching buttons (activated when pressed once, deactivated when pressed again).
  2. Press and hold the PAGE button (1) (a non-latching, "push-to-talk" type button) for the duration of the voice message into the integrated gooseneck microphone. The button's LED indicator (2) lights up when the message is active.

? Note: If the chime melody is activated, it is recommended to wait a few moments (3-4 seconds) after pressing the PAGE button before starting to speak, to prevent the voice message from overlapping the chime melody.

3. If necessary, cancel individual zone selections (ZONE 1 to 4) or the collective selection (ALL) by pressing the respective buttons again and verifying that the LED indicators are off. If a selection is not cancelled, the next message will be addressed to the currently active selected zones.

The DAM614 also allows zones to be selected permanently, so that voice messages sent by the MPAGE4 unit are always received, regardless of their button selection. To do this, on the front panel of the DAM614, set the ZONE switch for the desired zone(s) to the ON position, then press the button for input 6. The corresponding indicator will light up blue, indicating that the selected zone has been permanently activated as a PAGER. Repeat this step for each zone you wish to activate permanently.
