[Caution: High Voltage] The lightning bolt symbol with an arrow inside an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated 'dangerous voltage' within the product enclosure, which may be sufficient to cause an electric shock to persons. The exclamation mark in an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance instructions in the accompanying literature.

[Caution: Shock Hazard] Connections marked with the symbol "⚡" may carry a risk of electric shock. External wiring connected to the terminals must be installed by qualified personnel or with pre-assembled cables.

WARNING: To prevent fire and electric shock, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.

WARNING: A Class I device must be connected to a grounded power outlet.

2. Important Safety Instructions

This third pin is for your safety. If the supplied cable does not fit your outlet, consult an electrician to replace the obsolete outlet.
  10. Ensure the power cord is not pinched, especially near the plugs, sockets, and where the cable exits the unit.
  11. Use only accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
  12. Disconnect the unit from the mains during thunderstorms or when it will not be used for extended periods.

  14. Disconnecting from the power supply: Switching off with the POWER switch deactivates all functions and indicators of the unit. However, for complete disconnection from the mains, the power cord must be pulled from its socket. This socket must always be easily accessible.
  15. The unit must be connected via the power supply cable to a grounded socket.
  16. Part of the product labeling is located on the base.

4. Introduction

The MPAGE4 is a real-time voice announcement station ('paging') compatible with the Ecler DAM614 digital audio matrix. Thanks to its keypad, LED indicators, and gooseneck microphone, it allows for the selection of target zones for voice announcements, capturing the announcement, and transmitting it in real-time to the selected zones.

The essential features of the MPAGE4 are:

  • 4 Zone selection buttons (ZONE 1 to ZONE 4) (3)
  • 1 selection button for all 4 zones simultaneously (ALL) (4)
  • 1 voice announcement activation button (PAGE) (1)
  • 6 LED status indicators (one per button)
  • Gooseneck microphone (5)
  • Configurable chime melody (6)
  • RJ-45 connector for connection with a CAT5 standard cable to the PAGER port of the DAM614 (7)

5. Installation and Connection

The following steps are necessary for the installation of an MPAGE4:

  1. Install the cable connection using a CAT5 standard cable between the BASE port of the MPAGE4 (7) and the PAGER port on the rear panel of the DAM614.

This cable serves for transmitting control signals for zone selection, as well as for transmitting the audio signal from the gooseneck microphone and the chime melody – when activated. The phantom power required by the MPAGE4 for operation is also received via the same cable from the DAM614.

Diagram Description: The rear panel of the MPAGE4 unit features CHIME and PAGER connectors. The Ecler DAM614 unit has a PAGER input port. A CAT5 cable connects these two ports.

  1. Activation of the chime melody (Option). The two CHIME microswitches (6) on the rear of the MPAGE4 offer the following possibilities: Deactivation of the chime melody (both switches OFF) or selection of a chime melody from the three possible melodies by using different ON and OFF combinations of the two switches (ON-OFF, OFF-ON, and ON-ON). Position ON = microswitch down.
  2. Volume adjustment: After removing the console cover, the two adjustment potentiometers are accessible:
    • MIC (9): Adjustment of the microphone signal gain.
    • CHIME (8): Adjustment of the chime melody signal level (0-100%).

The console microphone (5) is an electret cardioid microphone mounted on a flexible arm and is not removable. It is supplied with an 'anti-pop' foam cover.

The audio output is balanced and is transmitted via pins 1, 2, and 3 of the RJ-45 connector on the rear of the console for reception by the DAM614.

6. Operation

After connecting the MPAGE4 to the DAM614, announcements can be transmitted as follows:

  1. Zone selection for the announcement:
    • Press the desired ZONE 1 to ZONE 4 buttons (3) (their LEDs light up as long as the respective zone is selected).
    • Or press the ALL button (4), which selects all 4 zones (its LED lights up as long as the ALL selection is active).
The zone buttons feature mechanical latching (they are latched upon the first press and released upon a subsequent press).
  2. During the voice announcement via the integrated gooseneck microphone, press and hold the PAGE button (1) (a 'push to talk' type button without mechanical latching). The LED of the button (2) lights up while the button is pressed (during the announcement).

Note: If the chime melody is activated, wait a few seconds (3-4 seconds) between pressing the PAGE button and starting the voice announcement to prevent the announcement from being overlapped by the chime melody.

  1. If necessary, deselect individual zones (ZONE 1 to 4) or all zones (ALL) by pressing the respective button again and verify that the LEDs are off. If the selection is not cancelled, the next announcement will be transmitted to the currently active zones of the previous announcement.

With the DAM614, it is also possible to set permanently selected zones to always receive voice messages sent by the MPAGE4 unit, regardless of whether they were selected via the buttons or not. To set this, set the ZONE switch for the desired zone(s) to the ON position on the front panel of the DAM614, and then press the button for input 6. The corresponding LED will light up blue, indicating that the selected zone has been permanently activated as a PAGER.

Repeat the process for each zone you wish to activate permanently.
