Features of your Dreamland electric blanket

Dreamland Fitted electric blankets have the following features:

  • Fitted blanket: Just like a fitted sheet, this electric blanket has elasticised sides to keep it secure on the mattress and make fitting easy.
  • Machine washable: For convenient care, this electric blanket can be machine washed and may be tumble dried. For instructions on how to launder your electric blanket, see the Care and cleaning section on page 7.
  • 9 heat settings: The easy to use illuminated controls offer a choice of heat settings from 1 to 9, so you can select the perfect heat level for preheating or all night use. The selected heat setting is displayed on the LCD.
  • Digital timer control: The handy countdown timer switches the electric blanket off automatically - after 3, 6 or 12 hours.
  • Extra foot warmth: This electric blanket provides extra warmth to your feet while keeping the rest of your body at a comfortable temperature.
  • Detachable controls: Remove the controls when laundering or storing your electric blanket.
  • Dual controls: Double, Queen and King size blankets have two control units providing individual comfort.
  • Overheat protection: A safety mechanism within this electric blanket automatically switches the blanket off in the unlikely event of a fault.
  • Antibacterial Treatment: Ideal for asthma and allergy sufferers, this electric blanket incorporates antibacterial treatment into the polyester fibres, helping to inhibit the growth of bacteria and mould. This treatment ensures a fresher, more hygienic blanket that lasts even when washed regularly.

Fitting your electric blanket

Note: The heat pad is designed to fit within the edges of your mattress. This ensures the best, smoothest and firm fit of your blanket to the mattress. As the blanket settles in to the fit of the bed, any fold ridges should smooth out over time.

Place the electric blanket on your mattress with the control sockets on the underside of the blanket near the head of the bed. Ensure the heating wires do not extend under the pillows.

A single or king single fitted electric blanket can be turned over so that the control is on the preferred side of the bed if desired.

Diagram Description (Figure 3): Illustrates placing the fitted electric blanket onto a mattress, showing the elasticated skirt designed to fit securely around the mattress edges.

Pull the elasticised skirt over the top corners of the mattress. To fit the foot of the bed, pull from the centre of the blanket to the foot of the bed, and fit one corner at a time while holding the centre. Ensure the fitted skirt goes completely under the mattress. Pull on the edges of the blanket to ensure that it is flat and square on the mattress.

Diagram Description (Figure 4): Shows how to connect the control to the electric blanket by inserting the connector plug into the socket and pushing firmly until it clicks into place. This is repeated for the other side if required (for dual controls).

Caution: The cord and controls must be kept outside the bed and away from external heating sources, such as heaters and lamps. Do not cover the control.

Using your electric blanket

9 heat timer control

Your fitted electric blanket is supplied with a 9 heat timer control. Two controls are supplied with Double, Queen and King size electric blankets. The control features an on/off slide switch to operate the control plus a choice of three timer settings which automatically switch the blanket off after three, six or 12 hours. The illuminated LCD displays the selected heat and timer settings.

Operating your 9 heat timer control

Slide the on/off switch to the ON position. Select your desired heat setting using the up/down arrow buttons. Sunbeam recommends that you only use settings 1, 2, 3 or 4 for all night use.

  • 1-4: Low, gentle heat for all night use
  • 5-7: Medium heat
  • 8-9: High heat, for preheating only

Operating the timer

When switched on, the control automatically defaults to the three hour (3H) timer setting. To change the timer setting, press the timer button to scroll through the three options: 3 hours (3H), 6 hours (6H), or 12 hours (12H). Pressing the timer button again returns to the 3H setting.

The selected timer setting is displayed on the LCD, along with the selected heat setting. You may change the heat setting at any time during the timer period using the up/down buttons.

You may change the timer setting at any time; you do not have to wait for a timer period to finish before selecting a new timer setting. Note: pressing the timer button during the timer period will restart the timer.

At the end of the selected time period, the temperature and timer settings will flash and the blanket will automatically switch off. To reset the control after the selected time period has elapsed, simply slide the on/off switch OFF and then ON again. When switched on again, the control automatically defaults to the last temperature and timer settings selected.

Diagram Description (Figure 6): Illustrates the heat setting levels: 1-4 for low/gentle heat, 5-7 for medium heat, and 8-9 for high heat (preheating).

Diagram Description (Figure 7): Displays the timer settings: 3H (3 hours), 6H (6 hours), and 12H (12 hours).

Care and cleaning

All Dreamland electric blankets feature waterproof heating elements, making them fully immersible and safe to wash by hand or machine. Before cleaning your electric blanket, ensure that the controls are unplugged from the blanket.

Spot cleaning

Sponge the affected area using a neutral wool detergent or mild soap flakes mixed with lukewarm water. Sponge twice with clean water to remove detergent. Remove excess water by compressing the wet area between two towels.

Hand washing

Wash the blanket in lukewarm water with a neutral wool detergent or mild soap flakes. Soak for five minutes, then gently squeeze the soapy water through the fabric. Rinse thoroughly in clean, lukewarm water then drain excess water from the blanket. Do not wring.

Machine washing

Take your electric blanket to a commercial laundry or wash in a domestic washing machine (if permitted). Wash on WOOL or DELICATES cycle with a neutral wool detergent or mild soap flakes, below 40°C. Do not use high speed or extra spin cycles.

Line drying

Drape the blanket across several lines of your clothesline, and try to avoid direct heat. Do not use pegs on the wired areas. Do not dry with a hairdryer or heater. Ensure that the blanket and control sockets are completely dry before using again.

Machine drying

Tumble dry your blanket on LOW setting for 15 minutes MAXIMUM. Smooth the blanket by gently pulling any creases out of the fabric. Line dry to ensure the blanket and control sockets are completely dry before use. Do not dry with a hairdryer or heater.

Storing your blanket

If you wish to remove the blanket from your bed when not in use, roll or fold it loosely and store in a blanket bag. Avoid pressing sharp creases into the blanket. Do not place heavy items on top of your electric blanket when storing.

Troubleshooting

The electric blanket is not heating

  • Check the control is plugged into the electric blanket, and ensure it is clicked securely into position. If the control connector is not properly fitted to the blanket, switch the power off at the power outlet, securely attach the control connector plug to the blanket and then switch the power back on.
  • Check the power cord is connected to the power outlet and that the power is switched on.
  • If you are using a powerboard, check the powerboard is working.
  • Remember for double, queen and king blankets there are 2 controls. Ensure both are plugged into the blanket, and both cords are plugged into a power outlet.
  • Check the on/off slide switch on the control is switched to 'on'.
  • If only one side of the blanket is working, it may simply be because the control rather than the blanket is not working. To help resolve your issue quickly, before calling Sunbeam Customer Service, please check the control. Simply swap the "good controller" to the "faulty" side of the blanket. Wait 20 minutes to see if the blanket is heating. If it does heat, the first controller is faulty. If the blanket still does not heat, the blanket may be faulty. Then call Sunbeam Customer Service line, and they will be able to assist.

The cord or any wiring is damaged

Do not attempt to repair it yourself. Contact the Sunbeam Customer service line on 1300 881 861 in Australia or 0800 786 232 in New Zealand.
