Windshield Wipers and Washers
Windshield Wipers
The windshield wipers and washers system is designed to maintain clear visibility in various weather conditions. The system includes controls for different wiper speeds, intermittent operation, and a rain sensor for automatic activation.
Windshield Wiper Control Lever
The control lever, typically located on the steering column, manages the windshield wiper functions. The lever has several positions:
- Position 1 (Rain Sensor Adjustment): Rotate the ring to adjust the sensitivity of the rain sensor. If the vehicle is not equipped with a rain sensor, this ring adjusts the delay interval for the intermittent wiper mode.
- Position A (Max Rain Sensor Sensitivity): This setting provides the highest sensitivity for the rain sensor, meaning it will activate the wipers with even light moisture. It also corresponds to the minimum delay in the intermittent wiper mode.
- Position B (Min Rain Sensor Sensitivity): This setting provides the lowest sensitivity for the rain sensor, requiring more significant moisture to activate the wipers. It corresponds to the maximum delay in the intermittent wiper mode.
- Position 2: High-frequency wiping.
- Position 3: Low-frequency wiping.
- Position 4 (Rain Sensor / Intermittent Mode): Activates the rain sensor or the intermittent wiper mode, depending on the vehicle's equipment.
- Position 5 (Single Wipe): Pulling and holding the lever activates a single wipe. If held, the wipers will operate at high speed until the lever is released.
Washer System
The washer system is used to clean the windshield.
- Push and Release: Pressing the button on the lever and releasing it activates the washer fluid spray.
- Push and Hold: Pressing and holding the button activates both the washer fluid spray and the windshield wipers simultaneously. The wipers will continue to operate for two additional sweeps after the button is released.
Note: If the wiper blades are frozen to the windshield or stuck, the electronic switch may temporarily disable the wipers. In such cases, turn off the wipers and ignition, then clear the windshield and free the wiper blades before restarting.
Speed-Dependent Wiper Control
For vehicles equipped with wipers that adjust based on speed:
- If the vehicle's speed drops below 8 km/h (5 mph) while the wipers are active, the wiping frequency will decrease to the next lower speed setting.
- If the vehicle's speed increases and exceeds 8 km/h (5 mph), the wipers will automatically return to their original operating speed.
This function can be enabled or disabled by authorized dealers or service centers.
Speed-Dependent Intermittent Wiper Control
On vehicles without a rain sensor, the interval for the intermittent wiper mode is adjusted based on vehicle speed. The delay time can be set using the rotary ring (1). As the vehicle speed increases, the interval automatically decreases.
This function can be enabled or disabled by authorized dealers or service centers.
Rain Sensor
Important: Before entering an automatic car wash, ensure the windshield wipers are turned off. If the rain sensor system activates during washing, it may damage the wiper mechanism.
The rain sensor detects the presence and amount of rain, dirt, or snow on the windshield and automatically activates the wipers. Small water droplets may not be detected immediately; a single wipe may be needed for initial cleaning. To activate the wipers with the rain sensor, move the wiper stalk to the rain sensor position (4) and adjust the sensitivity with the ring (1). Increasing sensitivity will result in a single wipe.
Rear Wiper and Washer
When the front wipers are operating and reverse gear is engaged, the rear wiper automatically activates. It operates with a six-second interval between sweeps. If the tailgate is opened while the vehicle is stationary and the rear wiper is active, the wiper will stop. It will resume operation three seconds after the tailgate is closed.
If the tailgate is open and the vehicle speed exceeds 3 km/h (2 mph), the rear wiper will function normally.
Headlight Washers
The headlight washers activate automatically when the headlights are on and there is sufficient washer fluid. They operate on every fifth wash cycle of the windshield, provided the headlights remain on and at least 10 minutes have passed since the last headlight wash.
If the headlights or ignition are turned off and then back on, the cycle resets.
Note: Headlight washer operation is disabled if the washer fluid level is low.
