Setup and Assembly

Your MotoTec Electric Dirt Bike requires some assembly before its first use. Please follow these steps carefully.

1. Unboxing and Inspection

  • Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  • Inspect all parts for any signs of damage during shipping. Contact customer support immediately if any parts are damaged or missing.
  • Verify that all included components are present: Electric Dirt Bike, Charger.

2. Handlebar Installation

Attach the handlebars to the steering column. Ensure they are centered and tightened securely. The handlebars are adjustable forward/back; adjust to a comfortable riding position before tightening completely.

3. Wheel and Fender Assembly (if applicable)

If wheels or fenders are not pre-installed, follow the instructions provided in the separate assembly guide (if included) to attach them securely. Ensure disc brakes are aligned and functioning correctly after wheel installation.

4. Initial Battery Charging

Before the first ride, fully charge the battery for 4-6 hours. The bike uses two 12V 12Ah batteries (24V total).

  • Locate the charging port on the bike.
  • Connect the charger to the charging port, then plug the charger into a standard wall outlet.
  • The charger indicator light will typically show red during charging and turn green when fully charged.
  • The battery can be removed and charged separately from the bike for convenience.
  • Do not overcharge the battery. Disconnect the charger once the light indicates a full charge.

Operating Instructions

1. Pre-Ride Checklist

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged.
  • Check tire pressure (knobby pneumatic tires).
  • Verify brakes are functioning correctly (front and rear disc).
  • Confirm all fasteners are tight.
  • Wear all required safety gear.

2. Starting the Bike

  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position. The battery meter should illuminate.
  • The bike features a variable twist-grip throttle.

3. Speed Selection

The MotoTec Gazella offers three selectable speeds: 5 mph, 10 mph, and 16 mph. These speeds can be adjusted using a key lock mechanism, typically located near the ignition or battery compartment. This feature allows parents to control the maximum speed for younger or less experienced riders.

  • Speed 1 (Approx. 5 mph): Ideal for beginners and learning.
  • Speed 2 (Approx. 10 mph): Intermediate speed for developing skills.
  • Speed 3 (Approx. 16 mph): Full speed for experienced riders.

Consult the specific key lock mechanism on your bike for detailed instructions on how to change speed settings.

4. Riding the Bike

  • Mount the bike and place your feet on the footpegs.
  • Slowly twist the throttle to accelerate.
  • Use the front and rear disc brakes to slow down and stop. Apply both brakes smoothly and evenly.
  • Practice riding in an open, safe area away from obstacles and people.
  • Always maintain control and be aware of your surroundings.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your electric dirt bike.

1. Battery Care

  • Charge the battery after each use, even if only for a short ride.
  • Do not allow the battery to fully discharge for extended periods.
  • If storing the bike for a long time, charge the battery fully every 30 days.
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place.
  • Inspect battery terminals and connections for corrosion or looseness.

2. Chain Maintenance

  • Regularly inspect the chain for proper tension. It should have a small amount of slack, but not be too loose.
  • Lubricate the chain periodically with a suitable chain lubricant to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
  • Clean any dirt or debris from the chain and sprockets.

3. Brake System

  • Check the front and rear disc brakes before each ride. Ensure they engage smoothly and provide adequate stopping power.
  • Adjust brake levers for comfortable reach and proper brake pad clearance.
  • Inspect brake pads for wear and replace them if necessary.
  • Ensure brake rotors are clean and free from warps or damage.

4. Tires and Wheels

  • Check tire pressure before each ride. Maintain recommended pressure for optimal performance and safety.
  • Inspect knobby pneumatic tires for cuts, punctures, or excessive wear.
  • Ensure wheel nuts are tight and wheels spin freely without wobble.

5. General Inspection

  • Periodically check all nuts, bolts, and fasteners for tightness.
  • Inspect the frame for any cracks or damage.
  • Keep the bike clean by wiping it down with a damp cloth. Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on electrical components.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your MotoTec Electric Dirt Bike.

Bike does not power on:

  • Ensure the key is fully inserted and turned to the "ON" position.
  • Check the battery meter to confirm the battery has sufficient charge.
  • Verify all battery connections are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Inspect for any loose wires, especially around the battery compartment or ignition.

Battery is not charging:

  • Ensure the charger is properly plugged into both the bike's charging port and a working wall outlet.
  • Check the charger's indicator light. If it's not illuminating or showing an error, the charger might be faulty.
  • Verify the charging port on the bike is clean and undamaged.
  • If the battery is removable, try charging it directly outside the bike to rule out issues with the bike's internal wiring.

Loss of power or slow performance:

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged. Performance decreases significantly with low battery.
  • Check the selected speed setting. Ensure it is not set to the lowest speed if you expect higher performance.
  • Verify tire pressure. Underinflated tires can reduce speed and range.
  • Inspect the chain for proper tension and lubrication. A tight or dry chain can cause drag.
  • Ensure the rider's weight does not exceed the maximum limit of 150 lbs.

Brakes are not effective:

  • Check brake lever adjustment. They should engage firmly without excessive travel.
  • Inspect brake pads for wear. Replace if worn down.
  • Ensure brake rotors are clean and free from oil or grease.
  • Check for warped brake rotors, which can reduce braking efficiency.

If you encounter issues not listed here or cannot resolve a problem, please contact MotoTec customer support.
