BLACK+DECKER Portable Work Bench and Vise (WM225-A) User Manual

Model: WM225-A | Brand: BLACK+DECKER

1. Introduction

The BLACK+DECKER Portable Work Bench and Vise (WM225-A) is a versatile workstation designed for various applications such as cutting, sawing, and painting. Its heavy-gauge steel construction ensures durability and supports up to 450 lbs. The adjustable, dual-height legs allow for customization to accommodate different project sizes, while the adjustable rear jaws and four swivel pegs provide secure clamping for irregularly shaped objects. This portable project center is also collapsible for easy storage, making it an ideal solution for workshops, garages, and job sites.

2. Important Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before operating this product. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious personal injury.

  • Always ensure the workbench is set up on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping or instability during use.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 450 lbs (204 kg). Overloading can cause damage to the workbench and lead to injury.
  • Ensure all locking mechanisms are fully engaged when adjusting height or folding/unfolding the workbench.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection, when working with tools on the workbench.
  • Keep children and bystanders away from the work area.
  • Do not use the workbench as a step stool or ladder.
  • Inspect the workbench before each use for any signs of damage or wear. Do not use if damaged.

3. Components Included

The BLACK+DECKER WM225-A Portable Project Center includes the following main components:

  • 1 x WM225 Project Center (main frame with two work surfaces)
  • 4 x Swivel Pegs (for clamping irregularly shaped objects)

Key features of the WM225-A include:

  • Heavy-gauge steel frame for robust support.
  • Adjustable rear jaws for varied gripping ranges.
  • Dual-height adjustable legs for ergonomic use and accommodating larger items.
  • Collapsible design for easy transport and storage.

4. Setup and Assembly

The WM225-A Portable Project Center comes largely pre-assembled. Follow these steps to set it up for use:

  1. Unfolding the Workbench: Place the folded workbench on a flat surface. Carefully pull the legs outwards until they lock into place, forming a stable base. Ensure all four legs are fully extended and locked.
  2. Adjusting Height: The workbench features dual-height legs. To adjust the height, locate the leg release mechanisms (typically levers or buttons) on each leg. Press or pull these mechanisms and adjust the legs to your desired height. Ensure they click securely into place at the chosen height. The lower height is ideal for accommodating larger objects or for use as a sawhorse.
  3. Positioning Work Surfaces: The two work surfaces (jaws) can be adjusted. Use the crank handles on the side to open or close the jaws. For initial setup, ensure they are parallel and ready for clamping.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Clamping Objects

The WM225-A offers versatile clamping options for various materials and shapes:

  • Standard Clamping: Place the object between the two work surfaces (jaws). Use the crank handles on the side of the workbench to tighten the jaws until the object is securely held. Ensure the object is centered and stable before beginning work.
  • Using Swivel Pegs: For irregularly shaped objects or to increase clamping surface, insert the four included swivel pegs into the appropriate holes on the work surfaces. Position the pegs to cradle the object, then use the crank handles to tighten the jaws, pressing the object against the pegs for a secure hold.

5.2. Using as a Sawhorse

The robust design and adjustable height make the WM225-A suitable for use as a sawhorse. Lower the workbench to its minimum height for increased stability when cutting long materials or using it in conjunction with other sawhorses.

6. Maintenance and Storage

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the work surfaces and frame with a damp cloth to remove dust, sawdust, and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light lubricant to the moving parts of the clamping mechanism and leg hinges to ensure smooth operation.
  • Inspection: Regularly check all bolts, nuts, and screws for tightness. Tighten any loose fasteners. Inspect the work surfaces for damage and the steel frame for any signs of bending or cracking.
  • Storage: The WM225-A is designed for compact storage. To fold, release the leg locking mechanisms and collapse the legs inwards. The workbench can then be stored upright against a wall or in a narrow space.
