Assembly Instructions

The Workmate® 225 Type 5 comes partially assembled. A standard hammer and the included plastic socket wrench are required.

Step 1: Identify Components

Empty the box and identify all parts as shown in Figure 1. Key components include:

  • Frame (A)
  • Front Vise Jaw (B)
  • Rear Vise Jaw (C)
  • Vise Screws (D)
  • Pivot Nuts (E)
  • Vise Cranks (F)
  • Crank Handle (G)
  • Swivel Pegs (H)
  • Front Top Blocks (K)
  • Rear Top Blocks (L)
  • Bolts (M)
  • Pins (N)
  • Washers (P)
  • Rubber Feet

Step 2: Frame Setup

Place the frame (A) on the floor. Locate the release levers near the front rubber feet. Depress both levers and pull up until the frame locks in position (see Figure 2).

Step 3: Vise Jaw Bracket Assembly

  1. Screw a pivot nut (E) onto each vise screw (D) about halfway. Assemble a washer (P) onto each vise screw (see Figure 3).
  2. Insert the unthreaded end of the vise screws into the frame, ensuring pivot nuts are in the frame slots and unthreaded ends protrude through the front holes (Figures 3 & 4).
  3. Install the two vise cranks (F) by driving pins (N) through the aligned holes in the cranks and vise screws. Strike pins with a hammer until flush (see Figure 5).

Step 4: Top Blocks and Jaw Installation

Note that front top blocks (K) do not have a protruding tab on the bottom, unlike rear top blocks (L).

  1. Select the front vise jaw (B) and the two front top blocks (K). Place top blocks on frame rails (Figure 6).
  2. Position the front vise jaw on the top blocks, aligning small holes with posts. Insert into the frame.
  3. Insert two bolts (M) through the jaw holes and tighten into the pivot nuts using the socket wrench (J) (Figure 1). Perform on both sides.
  4. Select the rear vise jaw (C) and two rear top blocks (L). Position rear top blocks on frame rails, fitting tab ears into key holes. Ensure raised posts face the rear (Figure 7).
  5. Install the rear vise jaw, aligning small holes with the posts on the rear top blocks.
  6. Insert the remaining two bolts (M) through the jaw and top blocks into the vise guide posts. Note that rear block holes are not threaded.

Step 5: Crank Handle and Rubber Feet Installation

  1. Snap in the crank handles as shown in Figure 8.
  2. To install rubber feet: Turn the unit upside down. Extend and lock the four legs. Align a rubber foot with each leg and lightly tap into place with a hammer (Figure 9).

Step 6: Changing Indexed Position of the Rear Jaw

Install the rear jaw in one of three indexed "keyhole" positions by aligning it with a keyhole in the vise jaw bracket and sliding it to the back of the keyhole (Figure 7).

Step 7: Using Swivel Pegs

The four swivel pegs (H) can be used in any of the holes in the front and rear jaws to extend holding capacity (Figure 10).
