To prevent any potential damage from static electricity,
discharge yourself by touching a grounded metal object like a
radiator.
Installation Steps:
- Power off the iMac and disconnect all cables.
- Lay a towel/blanket on your workspace and place the iMac face
down on it. - Press the small button near the power cable to release the
memory cover. - Pull the tabs apart to access the Memory Tray.
- Remove the original memory, noting the notch position.
- Insert the new memory modules into the slots with even
pressure. - Ensure the new memory is recognized by your iMac.
Verification:
After installation, verify the new memory recognition by
following these steps:
- Start up your iMac
- Click on the Apple symbol in the top right
- Click on ‘About This Mac’
- Click on the ‘Memory’ tab

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
CLEAR WORKSPACE
CLEAN TOWEL OR BLANKET
NEW MEMORY MODULE(S)
SCREWDRIVER
TO PREVENT ANY POTENTIAL DAMAGE FROM ANTI STATIC ELECTRICITY, YOU SHOULD DISCHARGE YOURSELF FIRST. THIS CAN BE DONE BY TOUCHING A GROUNDED METAL OBJECT – SUCH AS A RADIATOR.
STEP 1
Make sure the iMac is powered off and all cables have been disconnected from the machine.
STEP 2
Lay the towel/blanket onto your workspace and carefully lay the iMac down on it (holding the sides of the machine). The screen should be facing down.
STEP 3
There is a small button located in the recess where the power cable plugs into, which, when pressed will release the memory cover.

STEP 4
Pull the tabs apart at either side to access the Memory Tray.
STEP 5
Gently pull out the original Memory, noting the position of the notch, as you will need to install the new memory module in the same way.
Please note: Don’t worry about which way the stickers are facing as they will be in different places on different modules
STEP 6
Push the new modules into the slots. You will need alight even pressure to do this.
STEP 7
Ensure that the new memory modules are being recognized correctly by your iMac.
Please note: Your iMac performs a memory initialization procedure when you first turn it on after upgrading or rearranging DIMMs. This process can take 30 seconds or more, and the display of your iMac will remain dark until finished.
Ensure you let the memory initialization process complete.
