WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • CLEAR WORKSPACE
  • CLEAN TOWEL OR BLANKET
  • NEW MEMORY MODULE(S)
  • SCREWDRIVER

TO PREVENT ANY POTENTIAL DAMAGE FROM ANTI STATIC ELECTRICITY, YOU SHOULD DISCHARGE YOURSELF FIRST. THIS CAN BE DONE BY TOUCHING A GROUNDED METAL OBJECT – SUCH AS A RADIATOR.

Installation

STEP 1
Make sure the iMac is powered off and all cables have been disconnected from the machine.

STEP 2
Lay the towel/blanket onto your workspace and carefully lay the iMac down on it (holding the sides of the machine). The screen should be facing down.

STEP 3
Use a screwdriver to remove the Memory Cover located at the bottom of the iMac.

STEP 4
Gently pull out the original Memory, noting the position of the notch, as you will need to install the new memory module in the same way.
Please note: Don’t worry about which way the stickers are facing as they will be in different places on different modules

STEP 5
Insert the new memory into the slots, you will need a slight even pressure to do this.

STEP 6
Screw the memory cover back on.

STEP 7
Ensure that the new memory modules are being recognized correctly by your iMac.

  1. Start up your iMac.
  2. Click on the Apple symbol in the top right.
  3.  Click ‘About This mac’
  4.  Click on the ‘Memory’ tab.
