Behringer PRO MIXER DX626
Professional 3-Channel DJ Mixer with BPM Counter and VCA Control
Introduction
Your purchase of the BEHRINGER PRO MIXER DX626 places you at the forefront of today's trends in DJ mixing consoles. Numerous features, such as the talkover function and the beat counter, enable you to work in completely new and creative ways. The DX626 is a mixer for professional use; it is extremely easy to operate and helps you give free rein to your creativity.
While we know you want to get started right away, reading these instructions will help you fully understand and properly use all the features your DX626 has to offer. Please take the time to read everything through.
This manual first describes the terminology used, so that you can fully understand the DX626 and its functions. Please read the manual carefully and keep it for future reference.
Before You Begin
Your DX626 was carefully packed in the factory, and the packaging is designed to protect the unit from rough handling. Nevertheless, we recommend that you carefully examine the packaging and its contents for any signs of physical damage that may have occurred during transit.
If the unit is damaged, please do NOT return it to BEHRINGER, but notify your dealer and the shipping company immediately. Otherwise, claims for damage or replacement may not be granted.
To avoid overheating, ensure that there is enough space around the unit for cooling and that the device is not placed near other devices giving off heat.
Warning! We would like to point out that high volume may damage your hearing and/or your headphones. Please turn the MASTER control all the way to the left before turning on the device. Always make sure that the appropriate volume is set.
Control Elements
Front Panel
The front panel of the PRO MIXER DX626 features numerous controls for managing audio signals and functions. The layout is designed for intuitive operation.
- (1) MIC INPUT: A balanced XLR connector for your dynamic microphone.
- (2) GAIN: Rotary control used to align the input signal of each channel.
- (3) EQ: Each input channel has a 3-band equalizer (HIGH, MID, LOW) with a kill characteristic. This allows signals to be lowered significantly (-32 dB) or raised (+12 dB). This function is useful for fading out specific frequency ranges. The total level also depends on the EQ setting; adjust the equalizer before the GAIN control.
- (4) MIC/LINE-PHONO switch (Channel 1): Allows selection between microphone, line, or phono signal for channel 1. The rear panel PHONO/LINE switch (item 21) determines whether the input is switched to phono or line level.
- (5) PHONO/LINE switch (Channels 2 & 3): Selects input signal for channels 2 and 3. "Phono" is for turntables, "Line" is for other sources like CD or MD players. Never connect line-level devices to the sensitive phono inputs, as their output levels differ significantly.
- (6) CHANNEL fader: Adjusts the channel volume.
- (7) TALK button: Activates the talkover function. When pressed, the signal of other input channels is lowered (TALK LED lights up), allowing your voice to be heard more clearly over the microphone.
- (8) MASTER control: Determines the output volume at the MASTER output.
- (9) BALANCE control: For shaping the stereo image of the MASTER output.
- (10) BOOTH control: Determines the output volume at the BOOTH output.
- (11) CUE control: Sets the volume for the headphones signal (PFL signal). The PFL signal allows you to preview music without affecting the MASTER signal; it is taken pre-fader.
- (12) CH-1, CH-2, CH-3 buttons: Determine the signal source for the headphones. You can preview channels individually or all three simultaneously.
- (13) MASTER/CUE fader: Controls the volume ratio between input channels' signal and the MASTER signal in your headphones.
- (14) LED displays: Three displays show the volume level of PFL and MASTER signals using 10-character LED chains. The lower chain shows the PFL signal, and the two upper chains show the right and left MASTER signals.
- (15) BPM counter: An extremely useful feature that calculates the tempo of tracks in Beats Per Minute (BPM), ensuring smooth transitions. The left display indicates tempo for channel 2, and the right display shows tempo for channel 3.
- (16) CROSSFADER: Used for crossfading between channels 2 and 3.
- (17) BNC lamp connector: For a commercially available 12-volt BNC lamp.
- (18) POWER button: Turns the DX626 on or off.
- (19) HEADPHONES connector: Enables previewing music (PFL signal) on headphones. Headphones should have a minimum impedance of 32 ohms.
Rear Panel
The rear panel contains various input and output connectors, as well as power connections.
- (20) INPUT 1: Input for Channel 1, switchable to phono or line input sensitivity.
- (21) PHONO/LINE switch (Channel 1): Selects between LINE and PHONO input for Channel 1. The MIC/LINE-PHONO switch on the front panel (item 4) must be set to LINE-PHONO for this to function.
- (22) PHONO inputs (Channels 2 & 3): For connecting turntables.
- (23) LINE inputs (Channels 2 & 3): For connecting tape decks, CD or MD players, etc.
- (24) GND connectors: Grounding terminals for turntables.
- (25) TAPE output: Allows recording music by connecting devices like tape decks or DAT recorders. The output volume is fixed, requiring input level adjustment on the recording device.
- (26) BOOTH output: Provides another way to connect an amplifier, controlled by the BOOTH control on the front panel. This output can be used for monitor speakers or to provide sound to another area.
- (27) MASTER output: For connecting an amplifier, adjusted using the MASTER control. Always turn power amps on last to avoid inrush currents. Ensure no signal is present at the DX626 before powering on amplifiers. Slide all faders to the bottom and controls to zero for safety.
- (28) Power cable connector: Standard IEC connector for the power cable. The unit features a sophisticated internal power supply.
- (29) FUSE HOLDER/VOLTAGE SETTING: Ensure the voltage setting matches your local voltage before connecting. Blown fuses must be replaced with the same type and rating. Some units allow switching the fuse holder between 230 V and 115 V. For operation at 115 V outside Europe, a higher fuse rating may be required.
- (30) PRO MIXER DX626 SERIAL NUMBER: Record your serial number and return the warranty card within 14 days of purchase, or register online at behringer.com.
With the exception of the microphone and headphone connectors, the PRO MIXER DX626 primarily uses cinch jacks found on the rear panel.
