Setup

Sensor Setup

  1. Set the A-B-C Switch: The A-B-C switch is located inside the battery compartment. It can be set to A, B, or C. You must select the same letter choices for both the sensor and the display for the units to synchronize.

Example: Set to match display [A B C]

  2. Install or Replace Batteries: AcuRite recommends high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries for best product performance. Heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries are not recommended. The sensor requires lithium batteries in low-temperature conditions (below -4°F / -20°C) as cold temperatures can cause alkaline batteries to function improperly.
    1. Slide off the battery compartment cover. Note the A-B-C switch setting inside the compartment.
    2. Insert 2 x AA batteries into the battery compartment, following the polarity (+/-) diagram.
    3. Replace the battery cover.

Battery Disposal & Safety: Please dispose of old or defective batteries in an environmentally safe way and in accordance with local laws and regulations. Clean battery contacts and device contacts before installation. Remove batteries from equipment not in use for extended periods. Follow polarity diagrams. Promptly remove dead batteries. Use only same or equivalent battery types. Do not incinerate, dispose of in fire, mix old/new or different battery types, use rechargeable batteries, recharge non-rechargeable batteries, or short-circuit terminals.

Intelli-Time® Clock

Intelli-Time products are pre-programmed with the correct time and date. Intelli-Time technology sets the time and date automatically. You only need to select your Time Zone and Daylight Saving Time preferences. The clock will then automatically set itself and change for Daylight Saving Time.

Set the Time & Date

Press the "SET" button (on the back of the display) to enter SET MODE. The item being set will flash. To adjust, press and release the ▲ or ▼ buttons (press and HOLD for fast adjust). To save and move to the next preference, press "SET" again. The order is: TIME ZONE, DST (ON/OFF), CLOCK HOUR, CLOCK MINUTE, CALENDAR MONTH, CALENDAR DATE, CALENDAR YEAR. SET MODE exits automatically after 30 seconds of inactivity.

*If you observe Daylight Saving Time, set DST to ON.

Select Temperature Units

In normal display mode (NOT SET MODE), press the ▼ button to select between Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C).

Select Barometric Pressure Units

In normal display mode (NOT SET MODE), press the ▲ button to select between inHg or hPa.

Placement for Maximum Accuracy

AcuRite sensors are sensitive to surrounding environmental conditions. Proper placement of both the display and outdoor sensor is critical for accuracy and performance.

Display Placement

Place the display in a dry area free of dirt and dust. It stands upright for tabletop use or is wall-mountable.

Outdoor Sensor Placement

Place the sensor outside to observe outdoor conditions. It is water-resistant for general outdoor use, but to extend its life, place it in an area protected from direct weather elements. Hang the sensor using its integrated hang holes or hanger, or use string from a suitable location like a well-covered tree branch. The best location is 4 to 8 feet above the ground with permanent shade and plenty of fresh air circulation.

Important Placement Guidelines

  • To ensure accurate temperature measurement, place units out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources or vents.
  • Display and outdoor sensor must be within 330 ft (100 m) of each other.
  • To maximize wireless range, place units away from large metallic items, thick walls, metal surfaces, or other objects that may limit wireless communication.
  • To prevent wireless interference, place both units at least 3 ft (0.9 m) away from electronic devices (TV, computer, microwave, radio, etc.).

Diagram Description: A house with a TV inside, indicating the display and sensor should be at least 3 feet (0.9m) apart from electronics. The sensor is shown outdoors, with a tree nearby, and text indicating a maximum range of 330 feet (100 meters) between the display and sensor.

Setup is Complete: The sensor will synchronize with the display. This may take a few minutes. Refer to troubleshooting if issues arise.

Operation

Using the Weather Forecaster

Learning Mode

Self-Calibrating Forecasting analyzes pressure changes over time (Learning Mode) to determine altitude. After 14 days, the Learning Mode icon disappears, indicating the pressure is calibrated for your location, and the unit is ready for superior weather prediction.

Weather Forecast

AcuRite's patented Self-Calibrating Forecasting provides a 12 to 24-hour personal weather forecast based on data from your outdoor sensor, offering pinpoint accuracy for your exact location.

Forecast Icons:

  • RAIN/SNOW MIX LIKELY
  • SNOW LIKELY
  • RAIN LIKELY
  • CLOUDY
  • MOSTLY CLOUDY

Barometric Pressure

The forecaster displays current pressure with an indicator for FALLING, STEADY, or RISING trend.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Solution
No outdoor sensor reception
[No signal bars]
  • Relocate the display and/or outdoor sensor. Units must be within 330 ft (100 m).
  • Ensure both units are at least 3 ft (0.9 m) away from interfering electronics (TVs, microwaves, computers).
  • Use standard alkaline batteries (or lithium in sensor for temps below -4°F/-20°C). Do not use heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries. Synchronization may take a few minutes after battery replacement.
Display screen not working
  • Check battery installation and replace if necessary.
  • Reset the unit using the RESET button on the back. Time and date will need to be re-entered.
Outdoor temperature is flashing or showing dashesThis generally indicates wireless interference.
  1. Bring sensor and display indoors, remove at least one battery from each.
  2. Reinstall battery in the outdoor sensor.
  3. Reinstall battery in the display.
  4. Place units within a couple feet of each other for a few minutes to re-establish a strong connection.
Inaccurate forecast
  • Forecast icons predict conditions for the next 12-24 hours, not current conditions.
  • Ensure the Learning Mode icon has disappeared. Learning Mode must complete for accurate forecasts and pressure readings.
  • Allow the unit to run continuously for 33 days for full calibration. Battery removal or reset restarts Learning Mode. Forecasts become fairly accurate after 14 days but calibrate fully over 33 days.
Inaccurate temperatureEnsure both the display and sensor are placed out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources or vents (see Placement section on page 8).

Care & Maintenance

Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid caustic cleaners or abrasives. Keep away from dust, dirt, and moisture. Clean ventilation ports regularly with a gentle puff of air.

Outdoor Sensor Care

Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use caustic cleaners or abrasives.

Replace Intelli-Time® Battery

Intelli-Time technology uses a pre-installed coin-cell battery to store time and date settings. This battery has a shelf life of several years. After replacing, you will need to re-enter the time and date.

To replace the Intelli-Time battery:

  1. Locate the coin cell battery compartment door on the back of the display, inside the battery compartment. Unscrew and remove the cover.
  2. Insert 1 x CR2032 coin cell battery, ensuring the "+" positive terminal faces OUT.
  3. Screw the cover back on.
