4. Getting Started
Removing / Installing Frames
Optimize cooling performance by using the appropriate frame for your laptop.
Setting It Up:
- Position your laptop on top of the cooling pad and adjust the laptop support as needed.
- Connect the cooling pad to any of the USB ports on your system using the USB Type-A connector.
- Connect the power adapter to the cooling pad and plug it into a power outlet. Use the appropriate adapter plug for your region. This connection is required to power the cooling pad's fan.
- Press the Power button to power on the cooling pad.
It's recommended to use the appropriate laptop support setting and frame to optimize cooling and prevent vent obstruction for your laptop. Cooling performance may vary depending on the specific laptop model size, internal components, environmental conditions, laptop configuration, and usage.
Install Razer Synapse when prompted or download its installer from razer.com/synapse to begin customizing your cooling pad's lighting and cooling modes.
Organizing Cables
When connecting the cooling pad to your laptop, route the cables neatly underneath the pad to keep them organized.
5. Using the Cooling Pad
Power On/Off
Press the Power button to power on or off the cooling pad.
Adjusting the Fan Speed
Press the Fan speed button to switch between available fan speeds: LOW → MEDIUM → HIGH.
Repeat pressing until the desired fan speed is active.
Custom and additional smart fan settings can be accessed via Razer Synapse. On systems with Razer Synapse installed, the Fan speed button will also cycle through additional smart fan curve modes, and the fan will sync with your laptop's standby mode, turning off and on, and resuming previous settings when exiting standby.
Enabling / Disabling the Cooling Pad's Fan
Press the Fan speed button to enable the cooling pad's fan; press and hold the button for 3 seconds to disable it.
Customizing the Chroma Lighting
Cycling between Chroma effects: Press the Chroma RGB button to cycle through the lighting effects of the underglow lighting (e.g., BREATHING → SPECTRUM CYCLING → WAVE → STARLIGHT → STATIC).
Repeat pressing until the desired lighting effect is active.
Additional Chroma lighting options can be accessed via the Razer Synapse app. When the cooling pad is connected to a system with Razer Synapse installed, the lighting will sync with your laptop's standby mode, turning off and on, and resuming previous settings when exiting standby.
Enabling / Disabling the Chroma Lighting: Press the Chroma RGB button to enable the cooling pad's Chroma lighting; press and hold the button for 3 seconds to disable it.
6. Configuring Your Razer Laptop Cooling Pad
Disclaimer: This guide provides an overview of the Razer Synapse app and may only partially cover some features. Razer Synapse requires an Internet connection for installation, updates, and cloud features. Registering for a Razer ID account is recommended but optional. Features are subject to change.
Razer Synapse Customization
Access smart cooling and precision modes for your cooling pad with customizable fan curves that respond to your laptop's CPU or GPU temperatures. Remap RGB and fan speed button functions, and personalize lighting for an immersive gaming experience.
Only available on Windows 10 64-bit or higher. Laptop USB connectivity is required for Razer Synapse customization.
Synapse Tab Navigation
The Synapse tab is the default view upon launching Razer Synapse. Use the following buttons to navigate the user interface:
- Minimize: Minimizes the app to the taskbar.
- Maximize: Expands the browser window to fill the entire screen. Click again to restore the original size.
- Close: Closes all relevant tabs and terminates the application.
- Previous Tab: Returns to the last visited tab.
- Next Tab: Moves to the next page if the Previous Tab button was recently used.
- Refresh Tab: Reloads the current page.
- Download Update: Indicates app changes; use if a page isn't displaying correctly.
- More: Opens a pop-up for Devices, Modules, and Other Installed Apps.
- Settings: Opens the Settings tab for quick configuration changes.
- Profile: Opens a pop-up for Log In, Feedback, Rate Software, Add WiFi Device, and Exit options.
- Info: Hovering over this displays additional information about a feature or function.
Synapse Subtabs
- Dashboard: An overview of your Razer Synapse, providing access to devices, modules, and online services.
- Gamer Room: Shows devices with the Razer Aether Light feature for management.
- Synapse Override: Allows customization of device lighting to react to Chroma-enabled games and Chroma Connect apps.
- Controlled By Gamer Room App: Displays devices controlled remotely by the Gamer Room app.
- Devices & Modules: Displays installed and available modules for installation.
- Global Shortcuts: Bind operations or Synapse functions to custom key-combinations from any Synapse-enabled device inputs, applying across all device profiles. Only Synapse-enabled device inputs are recognized.
Laptop Cooling Pad Tab
The LAPTOP COOLING PAD tab is the main interface for your Razer device. View your system's current CPU and GPU status, and change device settings like fan speed, button assignments, and lighting. Changes are saved automatically to local and cloud storage.
- Profiles Dropdown Bar: Displays all profiles for the device for quick switching.
- Miscellaneous: Opens a pop-up with options related to the current profile (add, import, rename, duplicate, export, delete).
- Performance: View system CPU/GPU status, modify remappable buttons, and control fan speed with presets or smart fan curves.
Profile Settings
Profile is a data storage system for Razer peripheral settings. By default, the profile name is based on your system's name.
Fan Control
Control the fan's speed using customizable presets:
- Fixed RPM: Select a fixed fan speed preset and fine-tune it with a slider. Use the reset button (⚙️) to revert to the default setting.
- Smart Fan Curve: Automatically adapts the cooling pad to your system's CPU or GPU temperature for efficient cooling. Customize fan curves for each preset to control fan speed response to temperature changes.
Remappable Buttons
Click on remappable buttons to change their assignment. You can assign functions such as:
- Default: Returns the button to its original setting.
- Keyboard Function: Assigns a keyboard function. Includes Turbo mode for repeated key presses while the button is held.
- Mouse Function: Assigns mouse functions:
- Left Click
- Right Click
- Scroll Click
- Double Click
- Scroll Up / Scroll Down
- Mouse Button 4 (Backward) / Mouse Button 5 (Forward)
- Scroll Left / Scroll Right
- Repeat Scroll Up / Down / Left / Right (with Turbo mode option)
- Macro: Executes a prerecorded sequence of keystrokes and button presses.
- Inter-device: Changes functionality of other Razer Synapse-enabled devices (e.g., keyboard controlling mouse sensitivity).
- Switch Profile: Quickly change profiles and load new button assignments.
- Switch Chroma Effect: Cycles through Chroma Effect Profiles in Chroma Studio.
- Razer Hypershift: Activates Hypershift mode when the button is held down.
- Launch: Opens an app or website.
- Multimedia: Assigns multimedia controls (Volume Down/Up, Mic Volume Down/Up, Mute Mic, Mute All, Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track).

- Text Function: Types prewritten text with Unicode support.
- Disable: Renders the button unusable.
Lighting Configuration
The Lighting subtab allows modification of your Razer device's light settings.
- Brightness: Toggle or use the slider to adjust luminance.
- Switch Off Lighting: A power-saving feature to disable lighting when the system display turns off.
- Quick Effects: Select and apply preset lighting effects:
- Audio meter: Lights up according to audio level.
- Breathing: Lighting fades in and out.
- Fire: Lights up in warm colors to mimic flames.
- Spectrum Cycling: Cycles through 16.8 million colors.
- Starlight: LEDs fade in and out randomly.
- Static: Lighting remains lit in a selected color.
- Wave: Lighting scrolls in a selected direction.
Synchronize quick effects with other Razer Chroma-enabled devices using the Chroma Sync button (?).
Advanced Effects: Choose or create custom Chroma Effect Profiles via the Launch Chroma Studio button.
Only other Razer devices supporting the selected lighting effect will synchronize.
Linked Games Tab
The Linked Games tab allows you to add, view, and search for apps and peripherals linked to apps. Apps can be sorted by alphabetical order, last played, or most played. You can add unlisted apps manually (➕) or scan for them (?).
Link an app to your Razer device by selecting it from the list and choosing a device and profile. This automatically sets the device's profile when the app launches.
Settings Tab
The Settings tab (⚙️) configures app options:
- Auto Launch: Configure startup behavior.
- Notifications: Display on-screen notifications, even during full-screen apps.
- Recommendations: Show latest products and features based on installed devices and linked games.
- Tutorials Reset: Reactivate tutorials for familiarization with Razer Synapse features.
- Profile Migration: Transfer Synapse 3 Profiles, Macros, and Chroma effects to the New Razer Synapse.
- Device Lighting: Choose which app controls device lighting effects.
- Language: Change the display language of Razer Synapse.
- About: View software version, copyright statement, terms of use, and access Razer's social communities.
7. Safety and Maintenance
Safety Guidelines
- Do not disassemble the device or operate under abnormal current loads; this voids the warranty.
- For troubleshooting, visit support.razer.com for FAQs, guides, and contact information.
- Place the cooling pad on a stable surface, ensuring it securely supports your laptop.
- Do not pull, stretch, or peel off the foam from the frame.
- Do not bend the frames or expose them to undue pressure.
- Ensure your laptop's size is compatible with the attached frame and that none of its air vents are blocked.
- When disconnecting cables, do not tug abruptly; gently unplug from the connector.
- Do not insert foreign objects into air vents or openings, whether the device is running or powered off.
- Handle the mesh air filter carefully; do not puncture, pinch, or tear it.
- Keep the device away from liquid, humidity, or moisture. Operate within the temperature range of 0°C (32°F) to 40°C (104°F). If the temperature exceeds this range, unplug or switch off the device to stabilize.
Maintenance
The Razer Laptop Cooling Pad requires minimal maintenance.
Once a month, unplug the cooling pad and its power adapter, disconnect all devices, and clean the cooling pad using a soft cloth, cotton swab, or brush to prevent dirt buildup. Do not use soap or harsh cleaning agents.
For thorough cleaning, remove the fan cover and mesh air filter, then use compressed air, a soft brush, or cloth to remove dust or debris. Reattach all components after cleaning.
CAUTION: The fan cover and mesh air filter should only be removed for maintenance purposes. Always reattach each component to maintain the device's performance and safety.
