Introduction to the M Series

The Montarbo M series represents the evolution of the near-field monitor for contemporary creative professionals. In particular, the M6S and M8S models, thanks to their careful acoustic design, have been created for professional reference and home studio listening, while the M6M and M8M models are conceived for multimedia reproduction, with a remarkable versatility of inputs.

1. Package Contents

Each package includes:

  • 1 x Active loudspeaker (1)
  • 1 x Passive loudspeaker (2)
  • 1 x User Manual - Section 1
  • 1 x User Manual - Section 2
  • 1 x Power supply cable specific for your usage area
  • 1 x Connection cable between active and passive speaker

Note: The warnings in this manual must be observed together with the "USER MANUAL - Section 2".

2. Mechanical/Acoustic Equipment

The M6M and M8M multimedia desktop monitors combine sound power (111 dB and 113 dB of max SPL, respectively), extended frequency response, and input versatility (RCA, TRS balanced, AUX IN 3.5 mm, Bluetooth®).

The EQ controls on the back allow you to fine-tune your listening according to the acoustic features of the room.

The Class A/B amplifier drives a 6.5" (M6M) or 8" (M8M) woofer and a 1" tweeter.

3. Control Panel

Diagram of the Montarbo M6M/M8M control panel, showing audio inputs, EQ controls, powered output, and other buttons/ports.

1. Audio Inputs: Female connectors for line-level audio input.

  • BALANCED (TRS L/R): Tip = + positive "warm", Ring = - negative "cold", Sleeve = screen or mass.
  • UNBALANCED (RCA L/R): Tip = + positive "warm", Sleeve = screen or mass.

2. EQ Controls:

  • HIGH: Low-frequency equalization adjustment (-6 dB / + 6 dB range).
  • LOW: High-frequency equalization adjustment (-6 dB / + 6 dB range).

3. Powered Output: Terminal board connectors for connecting the active and passive speakers using the supplied two-wire cable. Ensure correct color-matching (red to red, black to black).

4. Backlit Logo: Button to activate/deactivate the front speaker logo light.

5. Main Level: Potentiometer to adjust the listening audio level.

6. Headphones: Headset output with a 3.5 mm mini-jack connector.

7. Aux In: Auxiliary audio input with a 3.5 mm mini-jack connector.

4. Power Supply

Diagram showing the mains input socket and fuse housing on the rear panel.

1. Mains Input: IEC input socket with integrated mains filter. The package includes the necessary power supply cable specific to your area. With the loudspeaker off, plug the power supply cable into this socket. Never disconnect the earth plug.

2. Fuse Housing: WARNING: If necessary or upon fuse replacement, ensure the fuse holder is placed in the direction indicated by the arrows on the cover and according to your local electrical voltage. Check this detail before connecting the unit to the electrical socket. WARNING: Replace the fuse only with one of the same type and values. If the fuse continues to blow, contact an authorized service center.

5. Bluetooth® Connection

Make sure the device to be paired is switched on and ready for Bluetooth® connection. With the speaker switched on, press and hold button 9 for a few seconds to activate Bluetooth® synchronization. The blue LED will flash.

Check your mobile device to see if the loudspeaker name (e.g., M6M) appears among the available devices.

Select the loudspeaker model to pair your device. The LED will be steady on, indicating successful synchronization.

(NOTE: Upon start-up after the first synchronization, it is only necessary for the speaker and device to have Bluetooth® enabled; pairing will occur automatically.)

Adjust the MAIN LEVEL for a proper listening level.

6. Quick Setup

Diagram illustrating the quick setup steps for connecting the speakers.

Step 1: Place the speakers in the correct right/left position. With the device off, set the main level volume to minimum.

Step 2: Connect the passive speaker to the active speaker on the back using the supplied cable (red terminal to red, black to black).

Step 3: Perform the necessary connections of the audio sources (RCA, TRS balanced, 3.5 mm AUX IN, Bluetooth®).

Step 4: Connect the power supply unit and switch the devices on.

Step 5: If using a Bluetooth® source, enable synchronization as described in section 6.

Step 6: Adjust the audio level and any equalization on the back according to the optimization required for listening.

7. Installation Tips

For optimal positioning, set the speakers in a vertical position at ear height (preferably use the midpoint between woofer and tweeter as a reference), slightly tilted towards the listener.

It is advisable to mechanically decouple the monitors from the desk with proper insulating foam supports (not included) to avoid undesired resonances. Avoid frontal obstacles that may cover the reflex openings or the transducers.

8. Troubleshooting

The loudspeaker will not turn on

  • Check that power supply is present upstream of the installation.
  • Ensure that the power supply cable is properly plugged in.

The loudspeaker turns on but produces no sound

  • Check connections to audio and Bluetooth® channel inputs.
  • Check the cables for interruptions. Use only quality cables and connectors in good condition.
  • Check that the audio sources are switched on and indicate output signal.
  • Check that the MAIN LEVEL potentiometer is set to a suitable level.

The loudspeaker does not allow stereophonic listening

  • Check the connection between active and passive speakers.

Resonances are heard, in particular on low frequencies

  • Follow the installation tips, and use the EQ controls on the rear to correct any unwanted reflections caused by the monitor position in the listening room.
