Display & Buttons
The watch features several hands and indicators:
- Hour hand, Minute hand, Small second hand.
- Power reserve indicator / Day hand / Mode indicator (month/year/alarm).
- Calendar hand (also functions as the stopwatch second hand).
- Alarm sub-dial (displays stopwatch hour and minute hands).
- Crown:
- a. Normal position: For standard operation.
- b. First click position: For alarm setting.
- c. Second click position: For time setting, calendar setting, and hand position adjustment.
The center hand has dual functions: indicating the date, month, and year in CALENDAR/ALARM mode, and indicating seconds in STOPWATCH mode.
Screw Lock Type Crown
Some models are equipped with a screw-lock crown for enhanced security and water resistance. It must be unlocked before use and relocked afterward.
- To unlock: Turn the crown counterclockwise.
- To lock: Gently press the crown inward and turn clockwise until it stops. Ensure proper engagement to avoid damage.
Changing the Display Mode
Pressing Button B cycles between CALENDAR/ALARM mode and STOPWATCH mode. Ensure the stopwatch is reset before switching from STOPWATCH to CALENDAR/ALARM mode.
Time Setting and Hand Position Adjustment
Adjustments are made with the crown at the second click position. This includes setting the main dial time, alarm sub-dial time, calendar, and hand positions.
- Checking Hand Positions: Ensure the second hand moves at one-second intervals. If not, charge the watch. Verify all hands are in their preliminary positions as per the manual's table.
- Adjusting Hand Positions: Specific procedures are provided for adjusting the stopwatch hour/minute hands, stopwatch second hand, and power reserve indicator using buttons A and B.
- Setting Time: Pull the crown to the second click. Set the main dial time (recommend setting a few minutes ahead). Set the alarm sub-dial time to match the main dial time in 24-hour format. Push the crown back to the normal position.
Perpetual Calendar
The calendar automatically manages dates and leap years. The day hand shows the day of the week, and the calendar hand shows the date, month, and year. Specific procedures are outlined for reading and adjusting the calendar, including setting the day of the week, date, month, and year.
Using the Stopwatch
The stopwatch measures elapsed time up to 24 hours in 1/5-second increments. It supports standard measurement, accumulated elapsed time, split time measurement, and measurement for two competitors. Procedures for starting, stopping, resetting, and using split functions are detailed.
Using the Alarm
The alarm sounds once at a set time and can be set in 1-minute increments within 24 hours. Procedures cover setting the alarm time, manually silencing it, changing an existing alarm time, canceling an alarm, and using the sound demonstration function.
Charging and Starting the Watch
To start or restart the watch, expose it to sunlight or strong artificial light. Charge until the second hand moves at one-second intervals. After a complete stop, set the date and time before wearing.
- Caution for Charging: Avoid exposing the watch to extreme heat sources during charging. Ensure the watch temperature does not exceed 60°C.
- Overcharging Prevention: The watch has a function to prevent overcharging of the rechargeable battery.
Power Reserve Indicator
The power reserve indicator shows the remaining operating time. It is displayed on a sub-dial. In CALENDAR/ALARM mode, it shows the day, month, leap year, and then the power reserve amount.
Guideline of Charging Time/Accuracy
A table provides guidelines for charging times under various light conditions (general offices, fluorescent light, sunlight) and their impact on the watch's accuracy and operational temperature range.
Energy Depletion Forewarning Function
When the battery is low, the second hand moves at 2-second intervals. This is a warning to recharge the watch. The stopwatch and alarm functions may be affected during this period.
Note on Power Supply
The watch uses a rechargeable battery. Avoid self-replacement; consult a retailer. Improper battery installation can be hazardous.
Improper Function
If an abnormal display occurs, resetting the built-in IC is recommended. This involves pulling the crown to the second click, pressing buttons A and B simultaneously for 3 seconds, and then resetting the crown. Time and stopwatch hand positions may need to be readjusted.
Rotating Bezel
For models equipped with a rotating bezel, it can be used to measure elapsed time up to 60 minutes. Align the bezel's mark with the minute hand and read the elapsed time.
Tachymeter
The tachymeter scale on the dial can be used to calculate average speed per hour or the hourly rate of operation by using the stopwatch.
Telemeter
The telemeter scale provides a rough indication of distance to a source of light and sound, such as lightning. It measures the time between seeing the flash and hearing the sound.
- Caution: The telemeter provides only a rough indication and should not be relied upon for safety regarding lightning.
Troubleshooting
Troubles | Possible Causes | Solutions |
---|---|---|
Watch stops operating. | Energy depleted. | Recharge the watch by exposing it to light. Refer to "GUIDELINE OF CHARGING TIME/ACCURACY." |
Small second hand moves at two-second intervals. | Energy running short. Light exposure was too weak. | Recharge the watch sufficiently. Refer to "GUIDELINE OF CHARGING TIME/ACCURACY." |
Stopped watch charged for longer than required, but second hand doesn't resume one-second movement. | Built-in IC in unstable condition. | Reset the watch as per "IMPROPER FUNCTION." |
Watch temporarily gains or loses time. | Exposed to extreme temperatures. Left near a magnetic source. Dropped or exposed to strong vibrations. | Return to normal temperature and reset time. Move away from magnetic sources. If issues persist, contact retailer. |
STOPWATCH hands do not return to "0" position when reset. | External sources or IC reset caused alignment issues. | Adjust STOPWATCH hands to "0" position per "TIME SETTING AND HAND POSITION ADJUSTMENT." |
Alarm time not set, but alarm sub-dial and main dial times differ. | Left near magnetic source. Exposed to strong vibrations. | Reset main dial and alarm sub-dial times. Contact retailer if issues persist. |
Inner surface of glass is clouded. | Moisture entered due to deteriorated gasket. | Contact retailer. |
Date changes during the day. | Time set 12 hours ahead or behind. | Reset time correctly per "TIME SETTING AND HAND POSITION ADJUSTMENT." |
