Precautions for Diving (Observe the following instructions carefully)

WARNING

Never perform any operations on the watch other than those specified in these instructions while diving. Incorrect handling or misinterpretation of displayed information may lead to death or serious injury.

WARNING

Diver's watches are primarily time-indicating instruments, not safety devices. Use these watches in conjunction with necessary equipment (e.g., depth gauge, pressure gauge) for safe diving.

WARNING

Never use this watch for scuba diving with helium.

WARNING

Do not dive with this product unless you have received proper training in scuba diving, acquired sufficient experience and skills, and thoroughly understood the operation and handling of this watch. Check all functions of this watch before each dive.

PRECAUTION

Do not operate the crown or buttons underwater. Water may enter the watch. If the inside of the glass fogs up due to condensation or if water droplets remain inside the watch for a long time, the water resistance of the watch will decrease. Consult the retail store where the watch was purchased or contact the SEIKO CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER immediately.

Do not allow moisture, sweat, or dirt to remain on the watch for extended periods. Remember that the water resistance of the watch may decrease over time due to the deterioration of the adhesive on the glass or gaskets. Be sure to wipe the watch dry with a soft cloth.

Remove the watch before taking a bath or visiting a sauna. Steam, soap, and certain compounds in hot springs can reduce the water resistance of the watch.

Before Diving

Check the following before diving:

  1. Correct Time Setting: Ensure the time is set correctly. Refer to "Parts and Their Names" on page 16.
  2. Charge Level: The charge level should be at least "half full"; the small second hand moves every second. If the small second hand moves every two seconds or has stopped, expose the watch face to light to charge it. Refer to "Charging the Battery" on page 33.
  3. Rotating Bezel: The rotating bezel should turn smoothly (it should not be too loose or too stiff). Refer to "How to Use the Rotating Bezel" on page 20.
  4. Crown and Buttons: Ensure the crown and buttons are securely tightened. Refer to "Screw-Down Crown" on page 17 and "Screw-Lock Button" on page 18.
  5. Glass and Case: Ensure there are no visible cracks or scratches on the glass or strap.
  6. Bracelet Attachment: The bracelet must be securely attached to the watch (using spring bars, clasps, or other fasteners).

PRECAUTION

If any malfunction occurs with the watch, consult the retail store where it was purchased or the SEIKO CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER.

During Diving

Observe the following precautions.

  • The watch can be used for shallow dives (air dives) within the water resistance range indicated on the dial.
  • Be careful not to strike the watch against hard objects such as rocks.
  • Do not operate the crown or buttons underwater.
  • The rotation of the bezel may be slightly stiff in water, but this does not indicate a malfunction.

After Diving

Follow the watch care instructions below after diving.

Rinse the watch in fresh water to remove any salt residue, and then wipe it dry to prevent rust. Do not pour tap water directly onto the watch. First, pour a small amount of water into a bowl, then immerse the watch and rinse it.

PRECAUTION

Depending on the environment where the watch was used for diving, the mobility of its components, internal parts, or case/bracelet may be impaired. We recommend regular servicing of the watch every three to four years.

2. Time and Date Setting

For date setting only, refer to "Manual Date Adjustment at the End of the Month" on page 25.

Setting the Time and Date

  1. Check if the watch is operating: Ensure the small second hand is moving every second. If it moves every two seconds or has stopped, expose the watch face to light to charge it. Refer to "Charging the Battery" on page 33.
  2. Check the time: Ensure the watch hands do not indicate a time between 9 PM and 1 AM. If they do, pull the crown to the second click, set the hands to a time after 1 AM, and then push the crown back in. This procedure is necessary to ensure proper engagement of the date setting wheel. Each time the hour hand completes two full rotations, the date advances by one day. The date changes at midnight when rotating the crown. Use the 24-hour hand to check the time in 12-hour format. Refer to "Parts and Their Names" on page 16.
  3. Pull out the crown to the first click: The small second hand continues to move. For models with a screw-lock crown, unlock it before performing this operation.
  4. The date can be set by rotating the crown: Rotate it until the previous day's date is displayed. For example, to set the date to "6", first set it to "5". Rotate the crown clockwise to set the date.
  5. Pull out the crown to the second click and set the time: Pull it out when the small second hand is at the 0-second position (the small second hand stops moving). Rotate the crown to advance the hands until the date changes to the next day. This sets the time to AM. Advance the hands to set the correct time. For models with a screw-lock crown, unlock it before performing this operation.
  6. Push the crown back to its normal position according to the time signal: The small second hand starts moving. A time signal service is useful for accurate second hand setting. For models with a screw-lock crown, ensure it is locked after performing the operation.

Manual Date Adjustment at the End of the Month

The date needs to be adjusted at the end of February and for 30-day months.

Example: Setting the date on the first day of the month following a 30-day month.

The watch shows "31" instead of "1". Pull the crown to the first click. Rotate the crown clockwise to set the date to "1", then push the crown back to its normal position.

For models with a screw-lock crown, ensure it is locked after performing the operation.

PRECAUTION

5. Care and Maintenance

Daily Care

The watch requires careful daily maintenance.

  • Do not operate the crown when it is pulled out.
  • Wipe off moisture, sweat, and dirt with a soft cloth.
  • After diving in seawater, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water and wipe it dry to prevent rust. Do not pour tap water directly onto the watch. First, pour a small amount of water into a bowl, then immerse the watch and rinse it. If your watch is classified as "not waterproof" or "water-resistant for daily use," do not rinse it. Refer to "Performance Characteristics and Type" on page 37.

Periodically Rotate the Crown

  • To prevent corrosion of the crown, rotate it periodically. This also applies to screw-lock crowns. Refer to "Screw-Down Crown" on page 17.

Periodically Press the Buttons

  • To prevent corrosion of the buttons, press them periodically. This also applies to screw-lock buttons. Refer to "Screw-Lock Button" on page 18.

Performance Characteristics and Type

The caliber and performance characteristics of the watch are indicated on the case back.

Lumibrite

If your watch has Lumibrite coating:

Lumibrite is a luminous paint that absorbs light energy from light sources in a short time and emits it in the dark. For example, if Lumibrite is exposed to light of over 500 lux for about 10 minutes, it can emit light for 3-5 hours. However, as Lumibrite emits previously stored light energy, the brightness of the emitted light gradually decreases over time. The duration of luminescence may also vary slightly depending on factors such as the brightness of the location where the watch was exposed to light and the distance from the light source to the watch. In general, when moving from a bright place to a dark place, human eyes require some time to adapt to the darkness, making it difficult to distinguish objects at first. (Dark adaptation) Lumibrite is a luminous paint that stores and emits light. This paint is safe for people and the environment and does not contain toxic materials such as radioactive substances. <Brightness Levels>

Power Source

This watch uses a rechargeable battery, which is different from ordinary batteries. Unlike a standard silver-oxide battery, the rechargeable battery does not require periodic replacement. The capacity and charging efficiency of the battery may gradually decrease due to prolonged use or operating conditions. Furthermore, prolonged use may lead to reduced charging duration due to wear, dirt, or deterioration of lubricating properties of mechanical components, etc. If performance deteriorates, contact a service center for repair.

WARNING

Notes Regarding the Rechargeable Battery:

  • Do not remove the rechargeable battery from the watch. Replacing the rechargeable battery requires professional knowledge and skills. For battery replacement, contact the retail store where the watch was purchased. Installing a standard silver-oxide battery may cause heat generation, leading to explosion or fire.

Function to Prevent Overcharging

When the rechargeable battery is fully charged, the overcharge prevention function is automatically activated to prevent excessive charging. You do not need to worry about damage from overcharging, regardless of how long the rechargeable battery is charged beyond the "time required for full charge." Refer to the charging time data in "Charging Time Information" on page 34.

WARNING

Notes Regarding Charging the Watch:

  • When charging the watch, do not place it near intense light sources (e.g., photographic lighting equipment, spotlights, incandescent lamps), as the watch may overheat, potentially damaging internal components.
  • When charging the watch in direct sunlight, do not place it in locations that easily reach high temperatures, such as a car's dashboard. The watch temperature should never exceed 60°C.

Resistance to Magnetic Fields

Magnets in nearby objects may cause the watch to temporarily run fast, slow down, or stop. Diver's watches have magnetic resistance equivalent to or exceeding that of Class 1 devices according to the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS).

CAUTION

Marking on Case BackUsage Conditions
No markingKeep the watch more than 5 cm away from objects with magnetic fields. (JIS Level 1)
(Icon: Magnet with arrow)Keep the watch more than 1 cm away from objects with magnetic fields. (JIS Level 2)

If the watch becomes magnetized and its accuracy deteriorates beyond the nominal specifications for normal operating conditions, it will require demagnetization. If the watch loses accuracy due to magnetization, repair and demagnetization will be charged, even if it is within the warranty period.

Reason for Magnetic Field Influence on Watches: The built-in motor contains a magnet that can be affected by strong external magnetic fields.

Examples of Common Items with Magnetic Fields That Can Affect Watches

Diagram Description: Icons representing various items like smartphones, speakers, network adapters, bags with magnetic clasps, shavers, radios, magnetic necklaces, and magnetic pillows.

  • Smartphone, mobile phone, tablet computer (speaker)
  • Network adapter
  • Bag (with magnetic clasp)
  • Shaver, radio (speaker) equipment with magnets
  • Magnetic necklace
  • Magnetic pillow

Bracelet

The bracelet comes into direct contact with the skin and gradually accumulates sweat and dirt. Therefore, without proper care, the bracelet may deteriorate faster, cause skin irritation, or stain clothing. For long-term use of the watch, proper care is required.

Metal Bracelet

  • If moisture, sweat, or dirt is not removed from the watch for extended periods, it can cause rust even on stainless steel bracelets.
  • Lack of care can lead to rashes or yellowish/golden stains on shirt cuffs.
  • Wipe off moisture, sweat, and dirt with a soft cloth as soon as possible.
  • To remove dirt from the bracelet gaps, first rinse the bracelet in water, then clean it with a soft toothbrush. (Protect the watch case from water by wrapping it in a plastic bag, etc.) Wipe it clean with a soft cloth.
  • Some titanium bracelets use stainless steel pins for structural integrity, which may rust.
  • As rust develops, the pins may protrude or fall out of the bracelet, potentially causing the watch case to detach from the bracelet or the clasp to become difficult to open.
  • Protruding pins can cause injury. In such cases, stop wearing the watch and take it for repair.

Polyurethane Strap

  • Polyurethane straps may fade in light and can be damaged by solvents or high humidity.
  • This is especially true for transparent, white, and light-colored straps, which can easily absorb other colors, leading to colored stains or discoloration.
  • Wash off dirt with water and wipe dry with a cloth. (Protect the watch case from water by wrapping it in a plastic bag, etc.)
  • If the strap loses flexibility, replace it with a new one. Continued use of a worn strap may lead to cracks or brittleness.

Silicone Strap

Due to the material's characteristics, this type of strap can easily get dirty, stained, or discolored. Wipe the strap with a damp cloth or tissue to remove dirt. Unlike straps made of other materials, cracks on silicone straps may gradually turn into tears. Avoid contact with sharp objects.

Notes Regarding Skin Irritation and Allergies

Skin irritation from the strap may occur due to various factors such as allergies to metals or leather, friction, dirt, or the strap material itself.

Notes Regarding Bracelet Length

Adjust the strap so that there is a slight gap between it and your wrist to allow for proper air circulation. When wearing the watch, ensure there is enough space to slip a finger between the bracelet and your wrist.

How to Adjust the Bracelet for Diving

If your watch's metal bracelet has a diving adjustment function, its length can be easily extended. This is very convenient when wearing the watch over a wetsuit or winter clothing.

  1. Lift the clasp so it is at approximately a 90° angle, then press it down further by about 20° and hold it lightly.
  2. Gently pull the bracelet from the 6 o'clock side of the watch along the curved line of the bracelet to extend the slider.

Diagram Description: Shows the clasp mechanism being lifted and pressed, and the bracelet slider being extended.

* Be careful not to press the clasp with excessive force. Some resistance may be felt, but only light force is required. This operation requires only light force; be careful not to pull the bracelet forcefully. The slider can be extended by approximately 30 mm. Be careful not to extend the slider beyond this limit.

How to Use the Dive Extender

If your watch's metal bracelet has a dive extender function, the bracelet length can be easily adjusted. This is very convenient when wearing the watch over a wetsuit or winter clothing.

  1. Lift the clasp.
  2. Press the button to open the clasp.
  3. Press the button to open the clasp.
  4. Slide the upper cover of the dive extender in the direction indicated by the arrow, then pull upwards to fully extend the two-section dive extender.
  5. Put the watch on your wrist, then close the clasp (5-1) and then the slider (5-2).

Diagram Description: Shows the steps for extending the dive extender and securing the watch.

To fold the dive extender, perform the above procedure in reverse. When the two-section dive extender is fully folded, you will hear a click, similar to when it is extended.

6. Troubleshooting

Checking and Adjusting, Including Disassembly and Cleaning (Maintenance)

  • For trouble-free operation over a long period, it is recommended to have the watch inspected and serviced (disassembled and cleaned) every 3-4 years. Over time, the lubricating properties of parts may deteriorate, leading to wear from oil contamination and watch stoppage. As parts like the gasket degrade over time, water resistance decreases, and sweat and moisture can enter the mechanism. Please consult the retail store where the watch was purchased for maintenance. If parts need replacement, specify "GENUINE SEIKO PARTS." When submitting the watch for maintenance, ensure the gasket and pushers are replaced.
  • Following inspection and servicing (disassembly and cleaning), the watch's movement may be completely replaced.

PRECAUTION

Depending on the environment where the watch was used for diving, the mobility of its components, internal parts, or case/bracelet may be impaired. We recommend regular servicing of the watch every three to four years.

Setting the Chronograph Hands (1/5-second and Minute Hands) to the Preliminary Position

If any of the chronograph hands do not return to the 0 minutes and 0 seconds position after resetting the chronograph, the preliminary position of the hands may be offset. The preliminary position for the 1/5-second and minute chronograph hands is 0 minutes and 0 seconds. Setting the hands to the preliminary position ensures accurate chronograph measurements. The preliminary position may be offset due to the following reasons:

  • Severe Shock: The offset may occur if the watch is dropped or subjected to impact.
  • Magnetic Influence: The offset may occur if the watch is brought near an object generating a magnetic field. Refer to "Examples of Common Items with Magnetic Fields That Can Affect Watches" on page 42.

If you adjust the preliminary hand position and the watch runs fast or slow, reset the main time after adjusting the hands.

  1. Check if the watch is operating: Ensure the small second hand is moving every second. If it moves every two seconds or has stopped, expose the watch face to light to charge it. Refer to "Charging the Battery" on page 33.
  2. Pull out the crown to the second click: The small second hand stops moving. For models with a screw-lock crown, unlock it before performing this operation.

If the watch displays incorrect data, or if the hands do not move at all or move with a 1-second interval even after full charging, follow the instructions below to reset the internal microcomputer. The watch will then resume normal operation.

  1. Pull out the crown to the second click: The small second hand stops moving. For models with a screw-lock crown, unlock it before performing this operation.
  2. Press and hold Buttons A and B simultaneously for three seconds, then release: The watch will enter the reset mode.
  3. Push the crown back to its normal position: The small second hand starts moving. If the small second hand moves every two seconds, continue charging until it moves every second. Refer to page 33.
  4. Adjust the preliminary position of the chronograph hands (1/5-second and minute hands), then set the time and date.
    • Setting the preliminary position of the 1/5-second and minute chronograph hands → Page 51.
    • Setting the time and date → Page 22.

Once the preliminary position of the chronograph hands (1/5-second and minute hands) is set and the time and date are correctly set, the internal microcomputer reset operation is complete.
